    Zhiyun Crane M2 Successor is here. Could this CraneM3 be the best gimbal for small point and shoot cameras in 2021? (like Sony ZV-E10) After taking the gimbal out for a real world review, I discovered some pros and cons. This video also compares Crane m3 vs crane m2. Because of the size this could be the best travel gimbal of 2021.

      They are about the same payload right? Same performance?

    Hi. Excellent video. Thank you. The wireless control module you reference at about the 15:00 mark: have you heard anything more about it? I can't find mention of it anywhere else. I'm mad that the M3 doesn't have the same wireless compatibility as the M2 unless I get the Pro kit with the expansion base, which costs $300 more than the Standard M3 kit. In fact, I'm ready to return or resell the M3 and go back to the M2 for use with my Sony RX100 VII. But, if this little module-dongle-thingy is for sale soon, I'll wait and see if that addresses my concerns about the M3's lack of wireless functionality.

    Questions:
    1) I'm hoping (wondering if realistic) to run an S21 Ultra in something like a Beastgrip with mic etc. ON a gimbal and be able to do a sit-down interview (or tradeshow interview like you mention) with the gimbal quickly attached to a tripod and then unclip and run again.
    I'm wondering if moving UP to an M3 say from the Smooth 5 makes that practical? I'm especially interested if integrating a transmount and tripod are EASY for this kind of activity. (Thinking documentary with a sit-down interview with an artist and then quickly leaving the interview to shoot her doing her art)...
    2) PLEASE, can you sort out or point to legit' info on how well the gimbal might integrate with the S21 Ultra, and S21 Ultra WITH Filmic Pro. I"m finding mostly fanboy videos on "mobile gimbals" do not do a good job on answering this and am wondering about the M3 seeing as it isn't intended for phones.
    3) Lastly, I "think" I'm hoping to do pro-style newsgathering and want a gimbal that'll accommodate that and it's a little heavier a setup than a typical "mobile" (phone gimbal).
    I may need a reality check here. (In the PAST I was a staff news shooter at TV stations and networks) to be able to have that power in a phone-styled setup would be great.
    Any help on this would be WELCOME.

  • @megapixelblog
    @megapixelblog Před 2 lety +1

    You are the first Crane M3 tester, who tells the problem with these short arms-
    - My combination (Sony 6400 and Tamron 1120) is the maximum that can just be balanced without hitting the camera and hitting the arms.
    The cons:
    - the supplied cables do not work and are too short
    - changing settings (aperture, iso etc.) via the control dial is not possible with Sony
    - photo shooting (camera is in auto mode, other photo programmes also tested) does not work with
    - Panorama, timelapse via the app. The gimbal moves through the waypoints, but no photos are triggered.
    - Only handy if you move all arms back to the original position.
    I tested everything with the latest firmware 1.72. It is possible with the Weebill S and DJI Ronin.

    • @SePark
      @SePark  Před 2 lety

      Now that would be an interesting combo. Since FX3 is little bigger and heavier than A7C, the lenses you can use will be limited. 24mm GM or Tamron 28-75 would be too heavy for it to clear the back motor.

    • @firstwave8855
      @firstwave8855 Před 2 lety

      @@SePark true, I used FX3 with those Samyang 2.8 lenses on the M2, with the bigger arms on M3 I would be happy with just the 1728. Also the M3 have a better vertical mode where you attach the tripod to the side 1/4'' screw so you can hold it vertically instead of the awkward torch position...

    • @SePark

      The Sony A7C is a good match for the size. I tried testing different mics for this gimbal. Seems like only mic that works so far are XLR mics. I need to try with the launch firmware to see and confirm. There are total of two 1/4 20 thread mounting points if you get the audio adapter package. No ZOOM function via the Adjustment Wheel. The manual states that it will be available in a later upgrade. This is a great disappointment!!! You can only control the camera via USB cable (no Bluetooth as with the M2). The only camera control with my Sony ZV-1 that I could use was recording. Such a failure for a blogging gimbal!! At least with the Crane M2 you could control the zoom of the camera. This Zhiyun product had failures too! It would cause the Sony ZV-1's screen to darken so much that you couldn't view it in the sun! I feel that the Crane-M3 is a downgrade to the Crane-M2 in basic functionality. An incorporated LED light is nice, but you need to be able to control the camera's zoom!!!!

    The problem with this M3 is Zhiyun cheaped out and only included the expansion base for the much more expensive pro kit. That means M3 in standard package lacks Bluetooth connectivity to cameras!

    do you think this can handle the lens (sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 contemporary dg dn) for sony FE?

    • @SePark
      @SePark  Před 2 lety +1

      On Sony A7C yes since Sigma 28-70mm is 80 grams lighter than Tamron 28-75. On Sony A7 III and A7S III body shaped, no, since it's heavier than the 55mm 1.8, which is the limit before hitting the back motor for the lower angle shots. Weight wise, it can handle it. You'll just be limited in some movements. Hope that helps.

    Found a FLAW in the new Zhiyun Crane M3: when built-in light is turned up anything above 50% (to 100%) brightness, the handle (or motors) vibrate. From 1% to 49% brightness, it's fine. Maybe the energy for the light is taking away some from one/all motors and changing the motor torque? I'm using my iPhone 13 Pro Max with SmallRig Cage. BALANCE CHECK multiple times: manually and autocalibration. 100% repeatable. Confirm on YOUR end please? :) Thanks!

      Hi Katherine, yes. You can jump to any of the parameter right from the screen. So~ much easier that the old non touch menu system. Only thing you can't do on the screen with the current firmware is the timelapse setup. Right now, you need the phone app for that. Hopefully they include this in the next firmware like the other gimbals.

    Battery powered LEDs do not flicker at all even the cheapest ones. Poor quality LED lights flicker because they are powered by the mains AC power and it has a pulse of 50 or 60 Hz depending on where you live, and its not the quality of the LED themselves but the driver electronics that gives juice to them.
