    Great Review Mark - you made my decision easy! I've used the RSC2 and its just heavy after a few hours at events (I will still keep for more demanding projects). I bought the M2S and was able to successfully balance a Sony aSiii with 28-70 lens and 17-28 and it worked just fine in my filming tests and held. BUT I was pushing it to it's limits I feel and want a little more wiggle room. I'll be sending that back and getting the M3 for the better ergonomics, handle, temp control on light, better motors for my payload and picking up the quick release plate for easy battery swapping - just about the perfect lightweight event gimbal for my standard filming shots. I'm pumped to try the time lapse. Cheers.

    For the extra features and ergonomics of the controls on the handle, I would prefer the M3. And it will work with my Nikon Z5 for balance as this model is on its list of compatible cameras. The M3 listing on Amazon, noting Nikon cameras, say to use the DX Z 16-50mm for 4K which covers about the same crop area of camera for 4K on the Z5 at about 1:1 readout, and the Z 24-50mm FX for full HD or the Z 28mm f2.8. Nice comparison, Mark. I believe both M3 and M2S could do a great job and deliver super smooth footage. In my point of view, the fundamental difference is that color design and accessory support. I have iPhone 13pro, 2 Sony crop bodies, Sigma f1.4 prime trio, and the a7iv with f2.8 zooms. I’m thinking for basic gimbal work the M2S might suit best. I don’t think either would really manage bigger zoom lenses. People seem to say the lighter gimbal makes the whole package more tolerable to carry, especially if you’re just mounting a phone. And if you’re adding an extension pole, the lightest setup is probably most important.

      I assume you are just talking about the stop/start video function? if so, I wouldn't be too worried about that, I hardly use that function myself. It's just a matter of pushing the button on the camera, rather than one on the gimbal. Until very recently no gimbals even had this function, including the ones uses to make Hollywood movies, so it's not a big deal. The other Gimbal to check out would be the Weebill S, not sure if that will function with the G9, but it's another good gimbal.

    Considering they have the same payload and losing just the mic ( which lets be honest , some people wont even touch ) , the less weight is just perfect and probably killed m3's market
    Because once youre spending that much , you're entering full size gimbal category with fullsize payload ( 5-7 lb ) instead of m3's payloaf ( 2,8-3 lb )
    Its a compact gimbal with a fullsized price , atleast m2s is smaller , lighter , cheaper and carries the same payload

I think its just a duff unit. Loved everything about it and even got the M50 quick release plate. Thought it was the cure for battery changes without rebalance and with lights and touch screen was a real step forward. I've seen your video and others sporting the M50 and Sigma 16mm combo and thought great that the one. Sadly there are still issues to iron out Mark. @@RaySuesTravelChannel no, but I did work out, with that unit, the vibration was caused by some play in the base that slides up and down, and also attaches to the base plate that goes on the camera. Even when I made it as tight as I could, there was some play in there that cause vibration and a buzz, and eventual shut down. Took me a while to work out, as I was sure it was cranked down hard, but eventually realised I could still wiggle it. I think I’m also running my motors at minimum power, on my production unit now.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  Před 2 lety +1

      The reason they are using the lists now, is that the motors are so strong that the weight is not the limiting factor. The limiting factor is the effective size of the area that the lens and body can fit in, and still have full range of motion. This will also change based on how the camera and lens balance. So it’s a bit more complicated than just a simple weight limit. So the list, or testing it yourself, is the only way to know.

    Hi Mark, great rundown of the two gimbals. I myself have a M50 and was watching to see what would suit my needs better. As someone who has never owned a gimbal, I'm leaning towards the M2S as a beginner. But the one thing that I need advice on is the weighting of the camera and the gimbal's performance. I plan on using Canon's original EF-M 11-22mm lens (and potentially some more weighty lenses in the future) and was wondering whether the M2S would perform well still. As the lens is not exactly flat, nor is it short, I wanted to know whether with the M2S's small tripod legs would be able to balance the M50 with a longer lens attached (by longer I mean not short like a pancake lens). I saw a review on amazon saying their Sony A7III with a longer lens could not be balanced properly unless tilted at a specific angle on the M2S and he was worried the weight of the camera + lens would cause strain to the M2S motors. May I know your thoughts? Thanks
