Hey scotty what do you think about HONDA HRV 1999-2005 MODELS d16w1 i have a manual any mod recomendations
Scotty I still got my 2011 CRV with 323,074 km up here in Canada and still kickn...next time you go to Thunder Bay swing by near Toronto
What year is that Honda in this vid??
What’s your opinion about a 2023 Mazda CX-5?
I think you get a big bang for your buck but not too sure about reliability.
Need you to give an opinion Scotty!!!!
Magical word that last a lifetime “PLEASE”!
1:40
We own that generation CR-V. Our 2007 has 120k miles. Last week before taking it on a long road-trip, I changed the oil to full synthetic 5W20 and changed the spark plugs with factory Densos. Took about 20 minutes to do both. While on the trip I was amazed that our average MPG increased from 24.3 MPG to 28.5 even driving it 75 MPH. I'm happy with it.
As always, Scotty is out here, representing the average person’s budget and I am all for it! Saving money and having a realistic/reliable car makes me excited too! Keep it up Scotty!
Its nice to be seen. He speaks to the majority of Americans.
thanks Scotty for videos
Agreed. Too many 'car channels' on CZcams focus on new cars like everyone has the money to afford them.
It's great and I understand it. Boy is it hard liking fun cars though. I spent 2 years without a sporty car and drove a nice fuel efficient car but couldn't take it anymore and a great deal came up recently on the car I'd had my eye on for a while. Most people just want to get from A to B but some of us have a passion that isn't easy on the wallet.
Any input? I have a 2006 Honda Crv 247k. I want to keep it!! It has an oil leak; 1/4 court low since the oil change was done 2 month time. The new CRv s in my area are 38k. I’ve had the starter and the Noc sensor replaced last year. I just put new tires on it. Sometimes the engine light comes on 😮 I’ve had the code read and was told it could be any number of things. The light went out after adding 1/4 quart of oil. I really love not having car payments and used cars w over 100k And 10 plus years old are still 16k plus
Because of your advice, a few months ago I bought a 2015 Honda Pilot with 215,000 miles on it. It has a 6 cylinder engine that's had 49 oil changes and at 200,000 miles the timing belt had been changed. It's got the highest trim package and it looks cherry. Without watching your channel I would never even have considered buying it. I love this car. It replaced a Honda CRV that was totalled by a little old lady going through a stop. And I was able to pocket $6600.00 due to the difference in value because the Pilot had so many miles on it.. Thank you Scotty.
My 2010 Pilot has 300,000 miles... I just put on new rear pads and rotors... I have had it for 8 years with absolutely no major repairs... (one alternator replaced which is common...)... Just keep the oil fresh and go on and on and on...) *My 2007 Acura stx is still running fine... I gave it away 5 years ago..
A friend of mine had a first generation CR-V from the 90s with over 400k miles on it, which was impressive. I picked up a 2006 CR-V in January with 160k miles on it. The two previous owners maintained it perfectly. It drives like it’s only a couple of years old. Zero rust California car. First Honda I’ve ever owned and I’m impressed. I’m looking at picking up another one.
That's excellent
The only issue with the 2nd gen is the Black death (AC issue) I have a 2006 Honda CRV 5 speed manual myself. Super reliable and fun.
What kind of hwy mpg are y'all getting with yours? I am looking at an 07 and do a ton of interstate driving and ideally want close to 30. Thanks in advance!
@@bjperez9076 2006 is a 2nd gen CRV so its a slightly different car. I get around 25mpg. I have a bull bar / roof rack but other than that. Its stock. I would expect you to get roughly 25-28mpg realistically. You can get 30 but it depends on roads/conditions. How fast you drive on the highway. I live in Los Angeles so i think that has something to do with it due to the traffic
@@vthecrv9270 thanks for the info! Didn't realize 07 was the start of the 3rd gen. We go back and forth on I10 in Texas. Pretty flat to rolling hills. I just don't like the 17 mpg of my Avalanche, and average 20-22 in wife's Odyssey.
Thank you Scotty for being so budget friendly always look forward to your videos
I had a 2001 Honda CR-V, it had over 300,000 miles on it and was still running good. The only reason I got rid of it is because it got in an accident and wasn't cost effective to save. Best vehicle ever
Scotty is naturally entertaining. I leave his videos happy
i always love to watch Scott to practice my listening.
Thanks Scotty for helping me with trying to find a dependable car or suv. Great information on all I've been searching. ( Was you ever a music director?)
My parents have one of these! They got it when I was in kindergarten and I'm in college now. Still goes!
2007 CR-V’s are awesome vehicles. I loved mine and still miss it to this day.
I am also glad my Mazda has the old style plug to drain the transmission. My 07 Mazda with 139k still shifts smoothly with the basic maintenance like that.
My 09 Ford Fusion I think shares the same transmission. It has a drain plug, too.
Zoom zoom zoom
All Mazdas are made by Ford until 2013..................
I have a 2007 Honda CRV 2WD. It has over 200K miles and have owned for 10 years. I also had to replace the A/C compressor. Other than minors repairs it’s been the best car I have ever owned.
The AC has been a problem with CRVs with every iteration. Scotty says you can’t blame Honda for the quality but at some point they can’t feign ignorance forever. They choose to buy those cheap parts knowing the life span in hopes to save a buck. Even with lawsuits they still come out in the black. Almost all models have some kind of AC recall variation.
Im suprised you even had to do that tbh. These 07 hondas are good. From mt expirience you usually only have to do basic maintinance amd then maybe youll replace like a button on the steering wheel or something simple like that. Regular stuff
yeah I just had to do the A/C Compressor on my civic 08. $1400 aud parts and labour. The plus side is that it is worth it cause my AC is super cold now.
Yeah I own 2007 crv 4wd 135k and that’s the next thing I have to replace is the air conditioner. Which I think they should’ve had a recall on. Just found out they have a recall again do to rust, Corrosion from road salt and de-icing agents. So of course I live a cold state IL so we will see how that goes.
I had the AC repaired on my 2008 Honda because it was cheaper than buying a new car. The thing just won’t break. Great car.
I wouldn’t touch a new Toyota with a barge pole. Work have them and the dash is always flashing about something.
Down to earth, practical man in the street advice. Thank you.
I’m still happy with my 2005 Toyota RAV4.
I work on a friends CRV. Its a break from BMW/Mercedes for sure. The K series honda engines especially the K24 are probably the best engines they ever made. It can take a substantial amount of neglect too as I also found out. Transmission is the same, can go 150k and somehow survive a filter/fluid change with OE factory fluid having never been serviced.
The 2.4 VTEC engines will run forever. I always used synthetic oil and high octane gas. Never any issues.
Only if you change the necklace style timing chain 2012 and up
My wife has a 05 CRV. 18 years 150k miles. It took her to college, grad school, our wedding, and picked up our daughter and son from the hospital when they were born. it is part of our family.
Great tips. Always enjoy listening to him
I recently got a 2007 honda crv a couple of months ago and it had 74k miles on it. It doesn't disappoint!
2006 AWD Honda Pilot with 260k and running great. Friends have over 400k on theirs and running great. Minimal maintenance and still getting 22mpg just like when I bought it new.
I live in Pennsylvania, I bought my 1st brand new car ever in 2021, a CRV AWD, I love my Honda’s
Love that you are in Rhode Island
What year is that CRV.Another great informative video Scotty. Thanks.
Another bonus on the awd version, they can be flat towed behind an RV (2014 and older)
You do a great job! Thanks.
My crv has 370k. Still runs very well
Appreciate this video.
You're the best Scotty thanks for all that you do man seriously
I am so grateful for you and your information!
Great video Scotty! 👍👍👍
I still have my 2009 Honda CRV which I purchased brand new at the Honda dealership in San Leandro California. It has 186K miles on it. Still running like a champ. Replaced the four struts 2 years ago.
Picked up a '07 awd Honda crv for my kid after he wrecked an '06 jeep gc awd 8cyl. The Honda is slightly smaller, but superior in just about every way. It's a 4 banger, sure but the only thing my kid is hauling is his own a**. It has more pep,(much lighter) better gas mileage by far, has been much more reliable even though it had about 160k mi when I bought it, and regular maintenance items are a snap. I guess I'm just mad at myself for not considering Hondas and toyotas sooner, and my son says he loves the honda. he liked the jeep- but we were always chasing gremlins in that thing. When the time comes- I may even consider a crv for myself. Thanks Scotty!
Jeeps are sadly a Chrysler zero reliability, and Honda's having amazing reliability, it's a great vehicle for anybody, just teach your kids the importance of maintenance and keeping the oil and filter changed every 3000 miles, and only use the proper weight of oil that it calls for on your oil cap or you can download the Honda maintenance manual.
@ 1 jack it needed an 02 sensor right after we bought it, that was a really easy fix, he's done his oil and filter changes, switched out his spark plugs etc. All those things are easy to do on crvs.
Scotty's hands were on their A Game. Love those guys.
Honda reliability started off well with the Super Cub. I guess they have reputation to uphold 👍🇦🇺
parents had an 08' crv. got up to 200k miles until my pops got into a wreck. it was supposed to be my first car, miss it so much. with proper maintenance, they last FOREVER, only issue we had with it was the A/C.
A friend of mine did his mechanical apprenticeship at a Honda dealer. This dealer also was a BMW dealer. When asked he would like a BMW he said not even if it was free. He was very happy with his Accord
I just bought that exact car but a 2009 EXL for $10,000 with...wait for it...14,000 original miles. I did lots of research and love that you made this video. Glad to know I'm set for life.
you should have just spent that money on a new prius or crossover hybrid vehicle. hybrids nowadays regularly get 40-50+ mpg. makes you feel good at the end of each year that passes by knowing that you saved several thousands of dollars at the pump by getting a hybrid.
Ya that price is on point for cars i am looking at in current market. Never see any car under ten grand. Wow you got a low mile auto at that price good for you.
I couldn't wait for it
@@jeschr3462 Why? It would cost me over 3 times that much plus higher taxes, higher plates, and higher insurance. I paid cash. Plus I'm a police officer that gets to drive my patrol vehicle unlimited mileage. I'll put an absolute maximum of 5,000 miles per year on my personal vehicle. I'd never EVER recoup the difference in price paying 3 or more times more for a new hybrid.
You struck gold on that deal wow
Awesome Scotty again! Make my day Scotty as always!
My 2009 CRV has 250K (original owner). Changed oil every 5-7K religiously. You’ll rarely see a Honda on the side of the road, let alone a CRV. Beats a 1K / month car payment.
Which years do you recommend in the CRV?
Older CRVs are great for reliability and cheap to maintain however if you are over 6ft or are heavy than this will be a terribly uncomfortable choice to buy. Getting older now and it’s all about comfort now even if it means not saving money.
Love the video. I am looking to try to buy a car for under $5000 cash and these types of video's give me hope I will be able to find something that won't break down in the first month, thanks scotty for content geared towards people that don't want to finance a 30k vehicle!!
1998-2002 Honda Accord LX (NOT the V6-too much power from motor breaks the transmissions)
Got mine in 2013 for like $5000.00
ALL the parts are cheap and usually available for near free at any salvage yard. It is literally still worth what I bought it for in 2013
@@srshwa imma get my grandma's '99 lexus gs300 with 2jz V6 for $3000. With 160k on it everything stock. Very nice car 👌
Patience grasshopper ,shop around and look at lots of cars,or try to buy one off someone you know for the trade in price, happy hunting
I am riding a 2007 CR-V LX right now that wasn’t maintained very well and it’s still at a little over 200k, transmission isn’t insanely smooth but it works good, engine is great, no lights on (except a TPMS that isn’t worth fixing), pretty solid. Changed the AC compressor because it did go out.
Thank you so much Scotty my 05 Pilot was making the same noise. I didn’t know what that was and no one could tell me
I replaced the struts on my 09 CR-V, and the tires wore out in 6 months. I had to get a camber adjustment arm put on the rear wheels to be able to get the alignment right so the tires wouldn't wear so badly. Otherwise, it is an excellent car. 201,000 miles right now.
I'm considering buying a used 09 cr-v with 75k miles, this is reassuring to see :)
I have that same one with 130k. The only thing I've changed is the spark plugs and coil packs. Also the compressor in mine is holding vacuum and is still working, HOWEVER the clutch is shot so i just have to swap out the clutch and bearing. If you have a bad AC in these doesn't always mean it's the compressor itself.
Hi! Which year?
i just recently got me a 2014 crv had it a little over a week now coming from a 09 civic and im loving it so far
I was skeptical at first, but after watching this video, I'm convinced that this is the way to go. Thank you for sharing this valuable information!
I did. It's been a good budget-friendly car. Just make sure you get a pre-purchase inspection when you find one you like. Good luck!👍🏻
Just inspect it for rust underneath. Rusted car is junk even with new engine.
I was thinking those got better mileage than that. My Marquis gets close to that. Great video!
I have an 03 civic with 233k on it. Bought it for $4k 5 years ago and it still runs like a champ. Also bought an 02 Toyota Sienna for $4k almost two years ago when it had 240k on it. It too is still our family trip mobile.
Scotty’s on fire! 🔥
You are the GOAT! Great review.
Would the 2007 Acura rdx be as good as the crv in your opinion? I seen a rdx with turbo. Thinking about buying it because of the luxury and power
1998-2002 Honda Accord LX (NOT the V6-too much power from motor breaks the transmissions)
Got mine in 2013 for like $5000.00
ALL the parts are cheap and usually available for near free at any salvage yard. It is literally still worth what I bought it for in 2013
I've recently bought a 05 Toyota Avensis and it's great, it has around 100k kilometers on it, it runs like a dream and it didn't break my bank. The only real thing I did to it was change the front rotors and pads and I did that myself. No monthly payments, no issues with the car at all. I have a feeling I'm going to keep it for a good while.
I had an 07 accord,and a 09 CR-V. Both had a transmission shudder at 45 mph.
Thanks Scotty, I was going to buy a used CRV but after your video I can’t afford one.
Scotty...the at 205 will that work in transfer case 4wd? Thanks for all the videos...
I’m a Rhode Islander with a 2009 Honda CRV and I love it.
I have a 03 Civic 225K
Still works like a charm !!
Literally saved me many times when my daily Nissan broke down on me.
Have owned 4 of these!!💯can not beat them! We had a manual 2006 I believe had close to 180000 miles we sold it to a friend who wanted a good on gas used vehicle.. I think that it’s still going ❤
I'm so thankful for you. You are offering a wonderful service to people, esp. women!
Last fall, I bought a 2004 Acura MDX from a friend. It had 186,+++ miles on it. He had bought a new car for his wife and hadn't used this one for a year and a half, hadn't started it for almost a year. I replaced the brake pads and the upholstery. It needs new O2 sensors. It burns no oil in between oil changes. I change at 2000 miles.
Replacing upholstery must be a frustrating job.
Thats boy good because i have a honda with a little less miles and burns no oil and those were good yesrs for honda engines so its odd to me you say it burns oil.
@@TheAnnoyingBoss Read what I wrote. I, like you, wrote it burns no oil.
@@Gritt982 I hired it done. It cost me only $900!
Scotty, welcome to the east coast.
Your upper body strength must be fantastic with all the waving of your arms.

Been buying CRV’s since 2012, I just trade them in every 4 years, never had any issues at all… I remember with my last one there was a concern with oil dilution. I have 75,000kms on my 2020 and get 15,000km per oil change.
my mother has a 2007 crv.. bought new still going strong and looks new
Hey Scotty, then what do you think on the Mitsubishi Outlander, maybe the same year as this Honda CRV?
Hello still got 12year honda civic but got clutch judder I'm going to change fluid first it's black good job with videos
Hi Scotty, I just bought my first Honda out of all the cars I've ever had, about 35! It's a Odyssey with a 3.5 liter V6. Runs great and has 248, 652 miles on it. Doesn't use any oil. It does have some paint chipping issues though, mainly on the sides below the side windows and on the hood, it's dark blue. Do you have any recommendations on this paint issue? It also has a SRS light on, what is that about? Thanks, Robert
That dark blue was a problem color for some reason!
Looking for a smaller suv for my daughter, like the CRV. Any years to focus on vs others? What scan tool are you using?
I just got a 23 highlander xse blacked out with red interior. Really nice suv and hopefully it will last. Got rid of a 16 Camaro and 14 civic coupe si .
Scotty, I have a 2005 4Runner SR5 4WD. It has 214,000 miles on it and the head gasket is going bad (P0306 code and coolant shows in cylinder 6). Should I repair this car? I just had ball joints, tires, front axles replaced.
Scotty my beloved 13yo Matrix 2.4L AWD is always throwing a CEL that turns the AWD VSC & TRAC off (not great in CT winters) is it the charcoal canister - I’ve read that’s a popular fail on this vehicle. Codes are always air related but I’ve replaced both 02 & MAFS sensors
This is what I was told to look for, not these new ones that will lead to us to having black outs or having to call the firefighters when something goes wrong because they have a battery and a tank
Had a used 99 😅 and head gasket, slipping transmission problems etc.. if I end up buying one of this, maybe a new one.
I have three older cars, Honda Fit (2013), and two 2007"s (Mercedes GL450 and Lexus GFX470). All are paid for and all run fine. :)
I have a 2008 CRV with 170k miles. It has been garage kept in California the entire time but as with most CRVs there has been air conditioning problems but everything else has good.
Scotty, please review and give advice on mini vans
Here is my $0.02 - my family has owned the following:
88 Toyota Tercel - blew head gasket at 70K
88 Toyota 4runner - rusted out at 140k
06 Toyota Corolla - rusted out at 200K
07 Toyota RAV4 - threw rod at 50K
08 Toyota Yaris - rusted out at 190K
2004 Honda Element - still going at 140K
2004 Honda CRV - caught fire due to hungry squirrels 120K
2005 Honda Element - still going at 210K
2008 Honda Odyssey - still going at 140K
2012 Honda CRV - still going 120K
0/5 toyotas remain while 4/5 of my hondas remain.
All vehicles were regularly maintained by the same mechanic as well as undercoated.
I would take the Hondas over the Toyotas any day. They are better made and last way longer.
I have a 2000 rd1 crv that my grandma gave me, it’s had its issues with burnt valves and idle air control motors flaming out and I am close to selling it as I have a 96 vtech accord that’s a much better daily driver. Every time I drive it to the mountains I struggle to find the motivation to sell it though. The crv is a great car it is just a lifted awd civic
Had a 2004 CRV in my family since I was in 1st grade. That thing was a solid work horse and never let my family down. It definitely would’ve lasted for another 10+ years until I crashed it. I miss that car everyday.😔
Way to go
Parents should have gotten rid of you, and kept the car.
But vtec kicked in yo

Hi Scotty, what’s the best year model to buy?
Change the transmission pressure switches for any slipping/jerking
Bought my moms 2007 CRV and it just now reached 113k miles. Thinking about adding a couple things to make the car look nicer !
Assuming it has been properly maintained, 113k miles on a Honda is almost nothing. I had a 1992 Honda Accord that was one of the best cars I ever owned. The transmission (manual) finally went out on it at 300k miles, but the engine, A/C, dash clock, and cruise control were still working great. And the 2.2 liter four cylinder engine delivered 37 mpg highway and 34 mpg city. I replaced it in 2017 with a 2008 Honda Fit that I got for $4,000 with 120k miles, and it gives me the same gas mileage as the Accord. As Scotty says, why would I want to spend 20 or 30 thousand dollars for another car that only gets half that gas mileage and constantly breaks down? Also like Scotty says, replacing the front axles and/or struts on a Honda, if you have the right tools, is a piece of cake. I'm telling you, these cars are engineered so much better than the American models, it's not funny. You seldom have to work on them.
What signs indicate a timing belt is due for a Honda or Toyota?
Is there anything to watch for on a basic OBD analyzer?
Is there a compilation of Scotty’s recommendations for cars?
Scotty, What bell is that you ring on the end of your videos?
My used 2008 CRV AWD snaps its drive shaft crossbearing. The rear differential is kind of stuck when turning. Gives clack clack sound when turning. Already changed differential fluid many times.
My daughter's first car was caused Toyota Corolla. She had that car for 11 years and had no problems. She kept the oil changed, got new tires when needed and brakes changed. She and her husband bought another used Toyota Corolla in 2015 and still have it. Their other one they traded 2 years ago for a new Toyota SUV I'm not sure which one it's a Hybrid.
Should you put convention oil in a 157k highlander or full synthetic blend?
What car would you recommend for the Caribbean?
We have a 2011 CR-V EXL that we bought new. It now has 215K and still drives like new. We did replace the aforementioned AC compressor some years ago, but other than that we've had no major problems. It's easy to work on - just stick with Honda fluids (coolant, power steering, etc.), change the oil/rotate tires on a regular basis, and don't hotrod it. We get about 27 mpg highway (front wheel drive). I expect we'll get at least 400K miles out of it. It's a fantastic, easy to drive/park, good-handling car that has a surprising amount of cargo space. I would drive it cross-country without a second thought. It's the best car we've owned in almost 40 years of marriage.
I know someone who owned a Honda Accord 94. She drove that car til 2020. Her husband maintained service on vehicle. They loved that car.
Hi Scotty , big fan of yours I'm from down south Louisiana!!! 🎉 Anyways I'm a female & I have a automotive question actually several of them !?!? Do you think you might be able to help me ? Yo Scott whats your take on the new prius ?
Scotty, I have a 2009 Honda civic with 130k miles and I recently noticed while doing an oil change that it has a slow oil leak on the passenger side. I’m not sure where it’s coming from and I was wondering if you could help me out. Also I live in Clarksville TN
