I have a 1999 Honda, Civic 3.5 ; 4 door. Stick shift. And a 2002 Nissan, Altima with higher mileage than the Honda. Do you make videos on these cars?
no more paychecks from Toyota?
I had it for 8 years, best truck ever, a little bit underpowered but stills ok, Now I have a brand new Kia Sportage :)
Scotty, I’m trying to decide between a 2009 Acura TL and a Lexus IS350 for my next vehicle. Which one should I go with?

im looking for a 10 or 11 CRV AWD; they just are not discounting the price enough for me.
UPDATE: i just bought (8/29/20) 05 CRV EX 5 speed auto. love it so far.
Wow forreal? I want to buy one! What's a good place to look for one?

Hey Skotty. I bought a 2006 CRV after watching your video. Almost two years later and no issues. Great car.
Finally Scotty made a vid about my car!!
Mine has an engine light pop up from time to time but it goes after 5-10 regular start ups. Never had the code reader for that specific engine light pop but I guess its something about the cats.

Got a 2003 CRV last year with 87000 miles and a 5sp MT for 3800 bucks. I’ve driven it twice from the east coast to Utah without incident. These little SUVs are great! I’m a big fan of the 2nd gen CRVs.

I bought a 2002 CR-V 5 speed manual after watching this video.
It has 297,000 ks on it but it is in excellent condition and drives like a dream.
Cost was $2900aud.
It was so good my wife took a liking to it and left me her car 😊
How is it so far? Still running?
Needed an affordable commuter car to drive around Boston and after watching pretty much all of Scotty’s videos, I decided on a 2005 CRV not unlike this one a few months ago. So happy to see a video just about this series and relieved he thinks highly of it!
As someone from New England the underside of that car amazes me
I’m from old England this looks good
Honestly as accurate as Scotty is, its all on how one takes care of their vehicle. My grandmother handed down her 99 accord v6 and it’s still running with 389k miles!!! Just take care of your fluids, filters, belts, etc and you’ll have a soldier!
I can agree with you on that one. My dad drives a one owner 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 currently with 29X,XXX miles, brought it when we lived in New York and drove it to California when we moved. My mom got tired of him driving the same car for over 20 years and my dad would say that he'll buy a brand new one when this one dies.
Then there's me, back in 2014, I saved up money from part time at McDonald's to buy a car. It was a 2000 Honda Accord EX (V4) with 136,XXX miles for 4,000 bucks. Transmission kicked the bucket in 2018 at 164,XXX miles and the mechanic told me that I was better off buying another 4000 dollar car because it would cost around 3000 to fix it.
@@A_Degenerate_with_Glasses that jeep was before chrysler bought them and cheapen the brand and quality. I would shoot for an old Cherokee, especially the box one
that 99 is a tank and is a smaller vehicle. heir trucks/vans seems to have lots of problems. But those old accords and civics are tanks
@@AIKAN74 the old accords and civics are definitely tanks. I just got really unlucky with mine. I left out the fact that I brought my accord from a young dude who just got a DUI. I checked it and everything looked great, but the transmission was probably abused like hell.
WOW!!! That's awesome!!
Yea I already knew that older CRV are great. Some people even drop CRV engines in a Civic.
That's a b20 swap. I had a girlfriend once with a b20 turbo Civic 300hp to the wheels. I couldn't loose her on my 1000cc Ninja
Nick Thedick yeah I knew. I just wanted it to be less technical for other people. :)
Had a 2004. Thing was super reliable.
What years ?
@@Cda21 gen 1 or gen 2
I've had my '98 CRV for almost exactly 22 years and it has a little over 284K miles under her belt.. The first Gen V's are/were just crazy reliable if you made sure to adjust the valves every 30,000-40,000 miles. Mine is still running with the original starter, fuel pump, alternator(although I swapped out the brushes awhile ago), auto trans and engine. I've been meticulous on upkeep so I still occasionally receive compliments about it. In fact, some guy approached me two weeks ago in a parking lot and wanted to know if I'd be willing to sell it. I also have been running slightly larger tires(215/70/15's) for almost twenty years since I always thought the factory 205/70/15's looked puny. I also have a nice set of five-spoke wheels(Alessio Rally's) on it so there's never been one in my area which looks like it. I've always had a soft spot for the first two generations.
It's still got a good 200K left in it too
I just bought a 2002 but only bc someone ran my 1998 off the road. I really miss my first gen. This is still better than any other newer Crv (they ruined them after 2006). But, once life settles down I'm going to just buy a 2001. Maybe an EX this time. I also had no qualms about buying it w over 180k on it. I know with maintenance it'll (hopefully) last as long as I need it to.
That’s cool, my b18b1 1995 Acura integra had over 236k miles and it still ran great. Thank our Acura integras because the CrV is just a SUV version of the Integra… I put the 1998 crv knuckles on my 95 integra and it fit went from 14” Steelies to 17” aluminum RSX rims… and who ever said the newer CRv suck, well I’m driving a 2008 CRv now only problem I’ve gotten is bad starter already replaced, and the AC, other than that the K24 engine is a better more reliable engine than the B20, will last up to 300-400k mileage before it gives problems in the engine, more power and upgrades than the older models.
Oh my integra also has Honda prelude axles to make the 98 CrV knuckles/bigger brake calipers & rotors work with it… and I’m not big into lowering my teggy.
Honda hates you.
my 99 crv is also on its original starter/alternator/fuel pump. I had to change the radiator a few years back. There are some serious rattling sounds from the suspension that have to be looked at. But some places want a few thousand to change it out, not sure if its worth the money or just buy a whole new 1st gen CRV for that same amount lol.
Thanks for all the help Scotty! You’ve been helping me for years!!! I really appreciate it.
You forgot the magic picnic table hiding in the trunk, Mr. Frog!
That thing has been awesome for us. Also a good space to put stuff you don't want people to see 😁
I literally was so shocked when I found that out

I dont know why I was so happy when I first found out about the table. Felt like Christmas 😅

Our 2005 CRV has 305,000 miles, and still going.
How’s it doing now?
@@jons.8975 Alas, the New England salts got to it, and the frame fractured at the left rear wheel. We sold it at 328,000 - drivetrain was still fine.

I have a 98 333+k miles and it's still going lol I've had it for almost 8 years
I know a lady that was my teacher she had this CR-V for quite a while and she has had very good luck with it
My mom bout a 2005 crv new. She gave it to me with 180k on it. I ran a lawn business out of the thing for 3 years, pulling a 1500lb trailer for 40k miles. I cleaned it out and sold it for 4 grand. That was the best car I have ever used. Period.
What do you think of a 4 cy 2011 CR-V with 83k...assuming it has been taken care of?
@@dstewart7470 IMHO, they messed up the CRV from a design standpoint after 2006, mainly by making it less boxy and putting in a center console instead of a tree style shift lever. It really broke up what made the CRV interior interesting be in and and just made it like every other small SUV on the market. Mechanically though, yeah I'm sure it's great. Make sure it wasn't one of the first direct injection engines; Honda had real problems with oil dilution on those. If it's pre- direct injection era, I'm sure it's great.
I feel so lucky I got a 2006 crv brand new. I love the boxy windows with great visibility. By far the greatest car I have ever had. The black bumpers are faded and tring to find a solution for that. I recommend a crv to anyone.
The only real solution for the faded bumpers and trim is to paint it satin black.
That's my engine. 2010 Accord, the only repair was a drivers window switch. $30 and 1 hour of my time. 200k miles.
We have a 2010 Accord .... just clicked over 52K miles ...... mint condition :-)
I also own a 2010 honda accord 2.4l 194k miles, no repairs in its life but it does have a back light out for the ac/heating temperature knob.
@@zbentz We drive it gently and do all required maintenance and fluid changes. I figured as little as we drive it, it could easily live to be 40. Unfortunately, I'll be 102 by that time :-)
My friends dad had a 2004 Audi A4, 3.0 TDI, it had over 500k miles on it before the transmission gave out (Automatic), with a new trans, it could easily do another 200k
@@TravelswithYoly I also drive relatively conservativly with proper fluid changes. Hope you and the car have a great life.

Thank you Scotty for the video. Having bought a 05 CRV se back in August. Has only reassured me my purchase.
I own a 2006 CRV with 34,000 miles, I figure it’s the last car I’ll ever buy!
As long as you can love another 30 years
I have the same year mine has 200,000
You could just sell it
What do you think of a 4 cy 2011 CR-V with 83k...assuming it has been taken care of?
34,000 miles? Damn, that could probably sell close to $10K!
I had one of those, sold it about two months ago, 2002 EX with 170k miles and never had mayor problems, my experience was so good that now my dad also owns a 2006 EX. The only problem I have seen with those, apart from O2 sensor needed to be replaced is rear tire alignment, I had to install an adjustable control arm to fix it, but overall great car considering the cheap you can get one.
My daily driver is a 99 Honda CRV, I flipping love it.
I had a 2002 Honda CRV but two wheel drive. Gave it to my daughter 3 years ago. Just passed smog and the Smog Tech was amazed how well it still runs with over 485k miles. Only thing I changed when I had it was the struts and ball joints which I did on my own and Vtec system. Matter fact it still has original alternator, starter, pumps and a/c. She doesn`t drive it as much since she has a 2017 Civic she likes better, because its newer.
I see these all the time with 200K + miles. I'm also always impressed with how well the interior wears on this body style CRV
Thanks so much for this video. I decided on this gen CR-V a while ago. I didn't really care which year of it at 1st, but the 2.5 [05/06] have the side airbags and standard ABS so I've been saving up to buy one of those upfront. Please keep up the honest helpful work😊
"Can run forever." That can be a very long time. Thanks Scotty!
I just hit a jackpot! Just recently bought a 2002 cr-v a week ago and it’s 18 year old running great! Bought it for only $2700aud! I’m loving it and really excited for our first camping trip with it. Thanks for this review it makes me really proud of my new wagon! Cheers mate!
Just as I was looking at getting one! Great video Scotty!!! Thank you :)
I love my 2002 CR-V with 186k miles. I have a forest green one with a brown interior. It came with a color matching small rear cargo lid that turns into a table. New O2 sensor made it run much more efficient.
I have a Honda CRV 2006 and it runs amazing I love my Honda . Thank you Scotty for making a video.

Coming across this a week after my 02 crv got totaled. Was a great first car. Still thinking about replacing with another one from the same era. Great car all around , can’t go wrong with a Cr-V
I ran my 94 Subaru Legacy to 355K, still ran good when I donated, maintenance does wonders
Our 2006 AWD CRV was a real winner! It had the rare 5 speed manual transmission.Very sorry that we had to sell. But, we replaced it with a used 2012 Prius v Wagon. What a great car! Two winners in a row. Not an accident, just good brand and model research before buying.

Got close to 500,000 km on my '97 CR-V and have never even replaced my catalytic converter. Just replaced my original muffler about 5 years ago and the replacement muffler lasted only about 3-4 years. The fuel door has started to have problem opening now but this is still the most reliable vehicle I've ever had! And, yes, this is Canada and cars normally don't last more than 300,000 km 😆

Thanks Scotty .... I needed this video. In August I bought a 2005 CRV ... same motor, same trans, moon roof All Time AWD .... What did you pay please?
I didn’t know that about that the fans turning on with the AC. Awesome
Scotty, as always your the best !
I have one of these with 150k miles on it. It's been very reliable. Had to replace the radiator fans (there's 2) and one of the O2 sensors but that's about it except for normal wear and tear stuff (tires, battery, etc.). Also no rattles or squeaks.
Was that expensive?
I helped my ex find one. They are freaking EVERYWHERE so you can get a fully loaded used one for cheap and they are tanks
Adam Kreuz I couldn’t find any here in LA 😭 in good condition. Nevertheless, my dad’s client, who does her yard, had a 2003 Toyota Camry 2.4 L. Keye Haze what did him tell u to go
alex h i mostly go to shell 🐚... he just told me NOT TO GO TO EXXON ,, lol
Keye Haze I thought most people knew Exxon gas was trash. Pretty much nonexistent where I’m at. Pump more dirt than gas, with shitty addictives.
This makes so much sense lol. The last couple months my car hasn't done as good on gas as it usually does. They put a Exxon in next door to work so I've been using that gas. I've tuned up and changed things cause I thought something was up with the car. Must just be that Exxon gas!
Darius Slay i figured... i never went to exxon to begin with UNLESS it was the ONLY OPTION and i normally would get mid to premium for that reason

My parents have a '99 and a '01 Honda CR-V, and they're great. Got them second-hand and been using them for over a decade now.
Just bought one for 3500 cad. Felt crazy to spend but it's a paid of car with 120 miles. As you said the cat code went away with new fuel. Crazy they're that predictable. Loving the car so far

I just bought a 2005 CR-V EX with AWD and a 5 speed manual transmission. This is a one owner car that has been meticulously maintained throughout its entire lifetime and currently has just over 200k, and best of all no rust! I appreciate his energy and editing cuz it keeps me a lot more interested and watching the whole video is a lot easier. Thanks for the info!
I see this CR-V has the same leaf accumulation problem as my Accord.
That's a weird Honda trait.
My rsx is the same way
I changed the cabin air filter on my 01 CR-V , it was like a bird nest when I pulled it out
Thank you!!!!! Bookmarked for future use. My memory needs a boost. lol
Thank you! I bought a 2002 CR-V for my package delivery business. This has made me feel so much better about the decision.
Hello can you please help. There is one for sale in my area exact same year can you tell me what to look out for and good price range. Thank you!
@@thebtchthathikes1008 I wish I could help, but area, year, condition, etc all could vastly change the price. Whichever one you want, make sure you have your own mechanic do a pre purchase check on it. I wish I'd done that for mine. I would have found some of the things wrong and could have negotiated the price better. Best wishes!
My last car was exactly like this 2005 with 271,000 and the same color!! Just traded it and they gave $2,000 for it and I paid 3,200 at an auction for it over 4 yrs. ago. I think I got my money's worth for sure!! I loved it and so did my daughter.
02 CRVs are great, this CRV is a 5 speed automatic. Some 2nd gen CRVs experienced Black Death where the a/c compressor grenades and trashed the entire a/c system.
Hondas and their acs. 😂 Family had a 13 chevy crossover and a '16 HRV and guess what crapped out first on both of the cars? Yep. AC. I tend to turn ac on and off due to my headache that tend to happen when im thinking and driving and i guess thats what happened
The 02 CRV is a 4 speed automatic.
