    I don’t think they understood the joke. But do think they understood that something of importance was conveyed. I didn’t under stay the joke at first but I could tell she was providing important info that would come into play later.

    Great job, just a few tips. 1. your mic needs to be straightened out, the microphone arrays in it are aligned to be perpendicular to the floor, the way you are speaking into it right now is causing that distracting echo. 2. Look into the camera unless there is something for the viewers to watch. 3. Get a spit screen for the mic so it breaks out the harsh consonant sounds. 3. Try using CANVA to make your videos look better. 4. Choose a background that isnt distracting as well. 5. If you have an NVIDIA RTX GPU you can download Nvidia Broadcast and make the audio sound MUCH better and more professional.
    Hope that helps and look forward to more of your vids!

      one additional suggestion: edits within the continuity of a sentence are a little distracting when I hear it, it would be better to re-record that sentence so that it is coherent, rather than stitched from multiple edits.

    Good video. I have a different take on the "joke," which IMO was smarter than the exposition dump from the book. She was attempting to convey the meaning of the Dark Forest paradigm without letting the aliens know by using a very unfunny joke. She knew that the San-ti did not understand things like humor or metaphor because they depend on deceit, or nonliteral interpretations of statements. Saul would have understood it had a deeper metaphorical meaning because it wasnt funny and because she emphasized its importance. I thought this was very clever, given what they know about the aliens near omniscience.
    As for why the San-ti still targeted Saul, it still makes sense. They might not understand the substance of what was conveyed, but they were probably smart enough to realize that SOMETHING was conveyed to Saul, so they decided to err on the side of caution and take him out as a precautionary measure. This also probably sets up the season 2 conflicts with the wallbreakers better, since the San-ti dont even know what Saul knows and cant counter his plans even if they tried.

      @DimensionalThoughtsOfficial  Před 2 měsíci +5

      Hmm now that you mention this, that's a very good point and very clever - it would seem like if the San Ti/Trisolarans knew exactly what was conveyed to Saul/Luo Ji then they would've done everything in their ability to prevent any threat of humanity even being able to attack the San Ti; the fix for that was since they are not good at masking their true strategy, others would find out that big secret in the process. It reminds me how in the books they originally did not want to disclose to more people than necessary that they wanted to kill him, since that would propel him to becoming aware of what he may know, and how the San Ti wouldn't discuss with anyone else the possible reasons either so starting to prevent science in those areas might inadvertently lead to more people discovering what Luo Ji knew. So, with a "joke" this seems to solve the problem from a different angle - thanks for providing your perspective, love that it's making me think more about the differences between the show and books!

    • @LilRedDog
      @LilRedDog Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@DimensionalThoughtsOfficial More spoilers below:
      But the 'joke' and the conversation at the cemetery are not about humans attacking the San Ti/Trisolarans; that is why they do not understand it. "Game Theory" and "The Fermi Paradox" don't need to even be read; the titles would be enough, unless you think like the San Ti/Trisolarans; then you would need to read the book and get lost in another three body problem: there are far too many strategies to calculate what those books are 'saying'.
      Prima facia, it would be 'how to win a game/war against an alien invasion' when, the real strategy is, 'how not to lose'.
      The thing that goes along with not understanding lying (which is another discussion because they, clearly, understand how to deceive; e.g. ETO) is in their language, words would only have one meaning, totally unlike human language.
      So the word "play" is open to a way of thinking they are incapable of: interpretation. They would not even inherently know what a joke is.
      "The Joke" is so complicated in interpretation it is just another three body problem for them. (arguably, even to native English speakers).

      Thanks for the explanation. i do have one question, and dont mind getting spoiled(only slightly) from the books if needed. as I've only watched S1 of the Netflix show
      This joke is supposed to tell Saul to don't play with gods, right? So if anything, its to both civilizations (Human and San-ti's) favor if they stay silent. IF Saul realizes the meaning.
      So why is the San-Ti trying to stop Saul? or better yet, why did Dr. Ye say that to Saul when the understanding of this can in fact help San-Ti and Humans survive?
      I'm confused and im sure there is a better explanation to it that I'm missing.
      EDIT and BOOK SPOILERS: I found it out after I posted this comment and its something about being in a mutually assured destruction with the san-ti

    • @jonathonpolk3592
      @jonathonpolk3592 Před měsícem

      @lyndongaming since you don't mind spoilers, yes it's basically a MAD scenario. Her point was don't play with aliens because they'll kill you if you do. Saul / Luo figured out the corollary: that no race (including the San-ti) should play with others because the same thing would happen to them. This led humanity to weaponize the Dark Forest by discovering how to expose other races like the San-ti to the rest of the galaxy, essentially forcing other races to "play with the gods."
      In fact, this was so successful that Singer's race decided to wipe out all of Sol with a doomsday dimensional weapon instead of an RKV: because despite our technological and scientific inferiority, we deduced how to pit various races against each other, which made us a threat to even the most technologically advanced species in the galaxy.

  • @WOTArtyNoobs
    @WOTArtyNoobs Před 2 měsíci +2

    SPOILERS
    The explanation is very simple. It's to do with Game Theory and the Dark Forrest - Fermi's Paradox
    If we truly live in the Dark Forrest, then there are other Hunters out there and if they detect life, they must eliminate it before they are detected or they will be killed.
    What the joke suggests is that if God hears you (detects you), then they will destroy your violin (destroy Earth) and you will be left in the heavens with no music forever.
    Who is Einstein and who is God?
    Einstein is the San-Ti
    God is another Hunter
    the violin is Earth
    What Ye was suggesting is that if the San-Ti attempt to take Earth (play the violin) then God (another Hunter) will hear where they are and then destroy the Earth because they must kill another Hunter before they are detected or they will be destroyed if they are detected.
    What is proposed is that the San-Ti must not attempt to invade Earth, because if they do, then humans will reveal the position of the TriSolarian system and that will also reveal Earth and BOTH systems will be destroyed by the other Hunter.
    It is a classic deterrent.
    If they invade they destroy the Earth and their own system and are left with nothing.
    If they do not invade, then they can cooperate with humans. However, if that cooperation leads to invasion, then the humans can broadcast the location of Earth and Trisolaris and everyone loses.

  • @LilRedDog
    @LilRedDog Před 2 měsíci +4

    I'm not sure that is the subtle hint in the joke.
    Spoilers below.
    I think the hint is: don't play with gods, you can't understand their intentions and you may not like the result; best to stay under their radar.
    A direct reference to "The Dark Forest".
    This is, exactly, how Saul handles his job as a Wall Facer. His spell is intended to get the attention of a race (it only take one maleficent race) so superior their response would be, while trivial to them, god-like in effect.

      He turned it down because he did not think he was capable of coming up with an idea and that others would do better.
      The reason he was picked though was because Ye shared the joke with him and then the San-Ti tried to kill him - twice. The UN knew that he was the right person when the San-Ti went to extreme lengths to kill him. He may not understand why he was picked right now, but he will come to appreciate that it was the Joke and the fact that Ye read about Game Theory and the Fermi Paradox. He realized that the only way to defeat the San-Ti was to place them in a classic stalemate where any move to invade and take Earth would result in their destruction and also destruction of their original home in the Tri-Solarian system. Remember that the San-Ti left behind some of their beings so that if one survived they all survived. If the Tri-Solarian system is destroyed and then Earth, then all the San-Ti die.

I am still working on a consistent fix but if you check out my latest video (on Cosmic Sociology) some of the biggest issues seem to be fixed. I followed some recommendations: 1) getting a foam/fuzzy mic cover, 2) re-angling my mic (a yeti) so it's actually tilted slightly away from me, rather than towards me, and 3) speaking further away from the microphone. It seems to have helped, hope that can help your cousin too.

      That’s what happens when you record and you’re monitoring through speakers. You have to get a good set of headphones and monitor the audio that way so there isn’t sound bleed.
      Either that or you’re using a crappy DSP effect like echo or delay, which you can easily turn off. Good content and best wishes.
