    1970 rear speaker grills were rectangular and were a one year only design. They also came with the 4 corner threaded studs attached. Very difficult to find these days. Enjoy your channel. I like the fact that you’re not afraid to tackle certain projects.

    Thanks for your videos ! You're my "Go To Guy" for videos for my 1970 Pontiac Lemans. Your speaker boxes are missing the clip that is supposed to be in the middle. It spreads when it is pushed onto the speaker magnet, then clamps onto it. The box will actually be snug to the bottom of the shelf and directs the sound up into the cabin space.

    As the painter the first thing I think when I see Raw wood is to put an oil primer on all sides and edges to prevent any moisture entering the wood. That could cause any warpage

    Great job and video, Chris. Best I have seen on this subject. I have a '70 Monte Carlo and bought one of those after market reproductions with the mesh covering the speaker holes. It doesn't look anything like the one that I took out. The old one didn't have the wings at each end while the new one does. I could not get the son of a gun to fit. Until your video, I wasn't aware that the ends fold up. My car is 47 years old and apparently someone had replaced the package tray with a homemade piece. Talk about learning the hard way. Now I have to figure out how to bend the end flaps up because I don't see any guidelines or perforations.

    The boxes used in the trunk under the speaker was usually mounted by G.M . with a stud (threaded) and a push clip. It's purpose was to reduce road noise entering the car by the speaker. On my newer olds the speakers mounted with a bracket, and the stud was a part of the bracket. My guess is the chevelle would be different.

    Those are original GM speaker grills, they used the same ones in many different models including 70 - 81 Camaro & Firebird as well as the Chenille.& GTO. That really was the go to grill for most of the 70s GM cars with the exception of the Cadillacs of that era. Hope that is helpful.

  • @vinny4034
    @vinny4034 Před 6 lety

    I believe those speaker grilles were correct starting 1971. The 1970 grille should be rectangular with the same mounting studs. I researched this a few years back when trying to find a pair for my 70 monte.

      Chris Craft yeah. Just ebay search 1970 speaker grille. They will pop up. Pretty expensive though because it was a 1 year option.

    Can I make this but without the wood panel? My car has a metal shell and the current piece is just fabric with some foam on top.

    I have just seen your very interesting video! I wonder what you call that sheet metal part below your rear package tray in English. Maybe "rear package tray panel"? I have seen names like the "seat shelf" or "trunk divider" but I guess that is rather the vertical part behind the rear seats, correct? My dictionary says "rear bulkhead" but I am not sure about it. Thanks in advance!

    • @chriscraft77022

      trunk divider panel

    • @aswler
      @aswler Před 3 lety

      @@chriscraft77022 Wow, what a fast response - Thanks a lot! By this you mean only the horizontal part or the vertical part behind the rear seats, as well? I work for a car company as an English translator so this is extremely helpful for my car body vocabulary.
