    Muniyan is a “Royal Enfield mechanic” with 49 years of experience with the Enfield. His life has been about Royal Enfield. This is his diary About Royal Enfield and his life.
    “My name is Muniyan, I was born in a village.
    When I was in school on seeing the bullet I told myself that I have to study well or I should learn the bullet mechanism. With that goal, I came to Madras(Chennai) in 1969.
    I worked as an assistant in a workshop for ten years and I started my own workshop in 1980.
    I earned a name by doing what the customers wanted in the bike, then we wanted to some modifications so we did self-start, open fork and we bought old imported switches and used them so we got more name by doing so.”
    After self-start we did disk break as well. Upon doing all these my name got spread amongst everyone.
    How can I say it? It (Bullet) is more important than my family. I will be always in the thought of bullet and I always think about doing something with the bullet. In this process I learned many things and I am doing many things.
    My bullet is my life and rest are after that only… this is going on like this till today.
    In Royal Enfield diaries, upon asked what his accomplishments are in the experience with the bullet, he says..
    “The achievements if you ask, in 1992 when there was no self-start in the bikes I did self-start in bullet.
    Even people from Royal Enfield R&D came here and took pictures of it. Now this has become a regular work.
    Then 2004 we wanted to try doing belt drive, we didn’t know in what belt we can do so we tried with a rubber belt it didn’t work. Then we bought a proper belt and started doing it. A big manufacturer of a belt company came to us and we had a tie up with them and did belt drive for 600 to 700 vehicles…. Since there is no warranty for their belts the tie up stopped, so we ourselves started to manufacture belts.”
    What is the difference between those days and now when it comes to bullets, he mentions to the Royal Enfield diaries..
    “That time Bullet’s market was very low but as I was doing modifications and alterations my shop was running smoothly and I do lathe works as well even we do lathe works for other mechanics as well so my market didn’t have any problem. Other mechanics started to come towards us for engine works, But that was the time when everyone was in a worry but the company had gone into good hands.
    Now we have style, comfortable breaks are given to the vehicle then self-start and disc break. There is everything in the bike now, we didn’t have these in bullet before…in those days even people thought others not to put on front break while riding a bullet. But now we have disc break and the front break is more important for riding around the city another thing is there is not back pain in riding Bullet and it is very comfortable and it has more road grip. The design was England’s design so many youngsters changed to Bullet and mainly everyone changed because of the shifting of the engine and break system around.”
    When Royal Enfield Diaries asked about his customer relationship, he says..
    “The customers say that the service what I give is better when compared to the company’s service and the bike is running for 4000kms before the next service as I mentioned to them. But because of the man power issues we couldn’t do more bikes.”
    When asked about his Royal Enfield team.. he says..
    “This is my son Suresh he is also in the field since he was 14, I developed this workshop in a company style for him only. I didn’t want it to be an ordinary road side workshop, he also wants to achieve different things like I think and very helpful for me in every way. He is my brother.”
    His son..
    “The connection is I have seen my father and I wanted to come into this field.
    We want to get bullet to the next level so we always do stay together and work on modifications and he will ask me suggestions when it comes to outlook of the bike. We have to go the big stage.”

    “If you see the international level bikes they are not created by any single man, but when you see him, he is the man who thought of giving self-start for Bullet before 17-14 years. As always when you do something new or invent new everyone will laugh at us right? But company adopted the self-start done by him and his model but he didn’t get any recognition for this.
    He said there is a problem in the new Enfield vehicles launched, that the problems are still there. The company people are not ready to rectify them, they are only ready to listen to big people.. no one likes to be questioned right?”

    As the above gentleman said today’s RE bikes lack that passion and produce bikes just to cash in on the craze old bikes bought to the company.... don’t buy any RE bikes such a waste of money .... these bikes have lot of problems and when u take it to the service centre the mechanics don’t know anything and they charge u a lot
