Jaffer Ali is a “Royal Enfield Enthusiast” with 48 years of experience with the Enfield. His life has been about Royal Enfield and racing. This is his diary About Royal Enfield and his life.
“Hi, I am Jaffer Ali
I am in this field for 48 years.. from my father’s time.
I have also been a racer for eleven years.. races with bullet, I have raced in all the states.
In 1981 I was the lap timing record holder and I came third in Grand Prix as well.”
In Royal Enfield diaries, upon asked how he started his expeditions with the bullet, he says..
“I wanted to do something with the bullet.. first we converted the bike to gas but the government didn’t approve it for safety reasons. We were the ones who first converted the Bullets to diesel in Chennai, We have converted two thousand bikes like that since 1994. We will always achieve what is desired to achieve as far as bullet is concerned.
We had a great interest in working on the Royal Enfield bikes from England at that time. When you compare other bikes with Bullet..Bullet will be the best! So we work on bullets with special concentration.”
When asked what have you contributed towards the young Enfield enthusiasts and the community, he says to the Royal Enfield diaries..
“We have trained many people for ten years to fifteen years, now they are well settled in various areas and having their own workshops…now all the youngsters are turning back to Enfiled, even the graduates… we have people who have completed diploma and Engineering training under us. They all have the interest for working on Royal Enfield bikes.”
Royal Enfield diaries asked about his family.. he says
“My father opened this shop in 1944, back then we had bikes like Matchless and Norton. Bullet was very less in number back then. When bullet came into market we started to work on it and now my son is working with us.”
When Royal Enfield Diaries asked about his accomplishments, he says..
If you take modifications we were the first one to do American chopper in Chennai and we have done more modifications.
The Madras bulls club was started here only and every state will have many clubs and the name “Jaf” will be In every club. The Royal Enfield club is started from here only.
What I like in the Bullet is its mechanism, it is very easy the British bike mechanism was very easy. Now they have bought integrated engine so it is very easy for us without any problems.
The look of the Bullet will always carry that swag and it will attract everyone that is why we like Bullet so much. I have 1978 model bike for myself and we have two bikes as vintage models with us. For my 1978 bike I have imported all the parts from UK like carburetor and other items also, I have a 1969 model. We are preserving this Bullets as antique from my father’s time.
I have more than 30 and 40 years old regular customers with me in my garage alone.
I had craze for racing from my young age, I myself tune the bike for racing and we started to race in Chozhavaram. I have raced for eleven years, not only in Chozhavaram I have raced in Bangalore, Coimbatore, Bombay and Calcutta so I have raced everywhere, in Chozhavaram out of those eleven years for seven to six years I did not have any winning points at all, I was racing just because I wanted to ride and complete the track and I never had a mechanical problem while racing, at that time itself we had double plug in our bikes back in 1981, now only we are getting twin spark but back then I used double plug.
In 1981 I placed a record by completing each of the eight laps with the same timing of 1.53 minutes. I finished all the rounds in the same timing, that Is the lap timing record a lap is 3.5kms and completed each lap in sparp 1.53 mins and got the third place in Grandpre so I did whatever I want to do in Bullet.
Unforgettable race was in Brakpur in Kolkata, Barackpur airport was a new track for us so it was very difficult for us we had the winning point but unfortunately we couldn’t win the race that is the only thing we couldn’t forget.
This is the memento I got for finishing third in the Grandpre as I mentioned earlier about the lap timings and all right? I got this for making the record apart from this I am a martial artist and I have fourth degree balck belt and I am still continuing it. I am the chief instructor for NSC (National Security Guard) for all black cat commandos, this is in Delhi, Police training college and all the ranks like NSG, SAG, FT51 for all of them I am a chief instructor for martial arts, these are all the medals and cups I got it from there and various karate tournaments as well.

I'm his customer for more than 10 years. I waited 4 months to get his appointment to restore by Machine (94 Model) fully. My father always says he's a good man. Jafar Ali Bhai is like my father, he was the Bullet Service Engineer for my fathers bullet 1968 MODEL and now he is taking care of my BUllet 350 BS4 2017 Model. HIS KNOWLEDGE IS AMAZING.
