    Thanks for the video Larry. I needed to replace an old Blum compact 31 hinge. Your video helped to explain why I couldn't find them and what is available.

    If the hinge cup with the self closing mechanism breaks, how do u remove it from the cabinet without scratching up the cabinet?!? Thanks!!!

    TO REMOVE Once all three screws are removed from the old assembly, grab the spring loaded lever and gently rock back and forth (with long pliers or , channel locks) also helpful to then squeeze a thin putty knife under one side at a time, perpendicular to the direction it normally moves as you gently pull out on it to get About 12 of those very small motions and it will pop right out of the door.

    I wonder why Blum moved hole pattern? Was it that during replacement old holes might be shot? Or do the screws have more holding leverage at new location. Why?

    Hi Larry, thanks for the video. Is there a drop in replacement for the Blum 33.3600 by a different manufacturer that would last longer? The black plastic keeps breaking after a few years. Thanks!

    Does anyone know what you call that little piece that holds the plate and the hinge in place? The one held in place by the screw. I have a discontinued Amerock hinge and that piece is worn out, the screw won't screw to it.

    My old plates are *not* compatible with the Compact 33 - the doors don't close fully when new hinges are paired with the old plates.
    When the self-closing mechanism breaks, there's not just a clicking noise, but also the door doesn't stay closed of its own accord; that's on the old model that looks like the "Compact 31" in this video, anyway.
    It's easy to disassemble the hinge and replace the plastic bit at the fulcrum - the "self-closing mechanism" - with the part from the new Compact 33. As easy as drilling new holes, at least and doesn't require replacing the plate in my case. The old hinges I have opened to 120 degrees originally and still do with the replacement, but hard to say if that puts extra strain on it.
    Would be nice if I could buy a lot of that tiny plastic bit alone since I expect more to break and the rest of the hinge is just fine.

      Josiah, I "hit" the same issue. looks like my original "31" mounting plate are hitting the new 33 cup. that crate a bit of an angle the prevent the door from closing. How did you cannibalize your 33 to get the plastic bit into the 31?

      @JosiahUlfers Před rokem

      I clamped the hinge down and used a small nail to drive out the pin at the fulcrum. Bracing the hinge against a block helps keep it still while removing the pin. Then swap the parts and reassemble. Inserting the pin for reassembly was easiest when I used a clamp to squeeze the parts together so the pin holes aligned.

    Interesting, thank you for the video Larry. I have the Compact 31 hinge as well. So there's no depth adjustment for these, right? As in moving the door closer or further away from the cabinet. Pretty sure that's the case when I found the instructions for the Compact 33 online, but I thought I'd ask to be sure.
    I'm asking as my cabinet door, which has been fine for the last 10 or so years, at least as far as I could tell, is now causing the door to hit the cabinet when I try to open it. It's so bad you cannot open it all the way, it also seems to not stay closed. Likely the self close part is broken and maybe that's why it's now causing the door to hit the cabinet.

      You are correct. There is no depth adjustment. That was a complaint about these compact hinges from the day they came out. Still it has been a very popular hinge for face frame cabinets.

    Hi Larry, my Blum 110 hinge cap failed and I am now on the verge of buying another 110 Blum from Amazon. However, I noticed that my broken cap is stamped 33-160 and your video example is stamped 33-3600. This stamped information seems to be unavailable at Amazon. If I order this item based on the model number of 110 believing it's a 3600 will it be compatible considering the other two hinges that remain are 33-160's? PS: Your video picture of the 3600 and mine are seemingly a perfect match. Thanks ahead of time...Ken
