What are some interesting albums you've found or know of within the depths of the internet? Let us know!
Pad Chennington I remember a classmate showing me an album by captain beefheart called Trout Mask Replica and that album has been one of my favorites ever since. I also remember finding Death Grips that wasn’t through Anthony Fantano or through memes
death grips with no history or context going into it definitely would be pretty uneasy at first glance lol
Tetsu Inoue - Health Loop, Ryoji Ikeda - data.matrix, and Maxwell's Demon - Glen Thalz are all unsettling. Lowercase in general has an unsettling quality to it but the story behind Tetsu Inoue and how he just vanished with nobody knowing what happened to him, not even his studio, adds to the mystique
Three unnerving vaporwave albums: Marble Thoughts by Stranded Lotus, Deep Dark Trench by CHRISTTT, and hushwave by Begotten
Please check these out (and maybe start a series on the disturbing side of vaporwave)
Pad Chennington I hope you like these three!
Another amazing new pick to look at. Time to go on another late night music binge journey.
Does anyone know how to get a coin out of a tv speaker
Cyranek I love your channell!!!
Why I can’t escape you
Paul G not all coins are magnet, in fact most are made of copper which is not magnetic. Try it out at home if you don’t believe me but all US coins are non magnetic
I LOVE YOU CYRANEK
I LOVE creepy, unsettling music. Looking outside at night while listening to dark ambient music is trippy and chilling but damn it’s a ride.
I feel you brother, they gotta straight up build a city that's only blue and purple lights and is constantly nighttime
I’d live there for sure. Actually maybe just a vacation house there😄🤔
if you haven't heard about b e g o t t e n 自杀 im sure you're gonna love the albums of it!
I looooove begotten🙂
if you want a whole mine of dark ambient look for cryo chamber on youtube is a whole channel dedicated to it
“Towers listening lasts an hour,”
Wow, so I could listen to 6 Towers in the time of 1 Everywhere at the End of Time?
and a half
Quick maths
*m a t h s*
One of my favorite unsettling albums is "Everywhere at the End of Time" by the Caretaker. It has 6 stages meant to represent progressingly worsening dementia. It remixes music from the early 20th century.
That album destroys me. The ending had me crying for like maybe an hour after it was over. It's a truly overwhelming experience despite it's 6 hour runtime.
no way i will ever listen to that monstrous masterpiece ever again.
LOVE the caretaker
I don't wand to sound like a pussy but I'm afraid to listen to the full EATEOT. I mean... I fear I can really be upset at the end or even before... I listened to some of it and it's not that bad, let's say that knowing what is it about makes it worse, probably I just need to not think of that and to not get fully involved in the music, like not being so sensitive to it. Anyway I know I should listen to each part not all in one session but with some time between each because that was what he wanted: that we didn't remember that well the previous part of the album.
I've listened to the first 3 stages of EATEOT, and I seriously couldn't listen to any more.
It doesn't sound dark at all, but NEWS AT 11 makes me very anxious and over the edge, maybe because of the theme.
"Dark ambient" is something completely different though. Dark ambient is the thing you didn't expect to hear, not what you thought to look for.
love me some corp!
maichiki yiist I look for dark ambient and drone music, and I only stumbled across news at 11 after listening to Palm mall, not quite sure what you mean
but did you listen to the album in the dark?
that made it creepy tbh
yeah but the music still pretty much falls under the whole slowed-jazz future funk vibe. something like "deep dark trench" by christtt, which utilizes that post-9/11 thematic element, definitely gives a much more unsettling feeling
Pad Chennington: "Towers is the most unsettling album on the internet"
Stalaggh's Projekt Misanthropia: Am I a Joke To You?
nurse with a wound zero mix: am i a joke to you?
it's not really scary considering the story that is supposed to make it unsettling is all fake
Not scary at all, just noisy and grating.
oh that's a good one, Gnaw Their Tongues is good, so is Abruptum. legend has it "It" literally mutilated themselves during the recording of the vocals to simulate real torture.
@@azrael5493 ok Mr. Deus Ex prove its not fake.
Vaporwave is full of those disturbing yet beautiful albums.

It’s unfortunate that it looks so much like the Confederate flag. I bet that gets a lot of confusion.
If you actually dark/unsettling music, listen to early industrial.
Caretaker has some great stuff- 'An empty bliss beyond this world' popped my cherry when i was getting into ambient/dark ambient...czech it out
Everywhere at the End of Time is amazing.

Nice... I love NWW. “Spiral Insana” and “Two Shaves And A Shine” are particular favorites of mine.
News At 11: am I a joke to you?
Damn, Vaporwave really can convey every emotion.
TABBY bruv I’ve seen you in so many videos
Spiesee Boi I’ve been waiting for someone to say this for so long..
This is a Dark Ambient album tho.
@@wareforcoin5780 it falls under the vaporwave category
Angel 101 I can assure you this is not vapourwave
Daughters - You Won’t get What You Want, is also fairly disturbing
And to add something else, the CZcams channel Sewerslvt, also has some fairly interesting music similar to this, although its not ambient, but it does evoke similar emotion, at least to me, that towers brings. Its sounds a lot like something that death grips or machine girl would make if you are interested in those kind of groups. Just keep in mind that the music isn't going to be appealing to everyone, and it doesn't have the same style as vaporwave, but if you are interested in checking out some "unsettling" music, Sewerslvt is perfect for that kind of stuff.
heavy sure
Amazing album.
Daughters is badass.
Lmao I was driving through the mountains with my fiancée and put that album on and she got so freaked out. She still can't listen to it
Would love for you to check out the Silent Hill soundtrack. That is also a great example of dark ambience and leaving it up to the players to fill in what they think is going on in the soundtrack
is it strange that I've never played a silent hill game ?
@@PadChennington ive played the first 2 and oh my god the music is so good, my heaven is such a disturbing piece
I gotta check that ish out lol
If I may intrude, I would recommend the Silent Hill 3 OST
Laiskaduma both Silent Hill and Manhunt have amazing soundtracks. Also, can’t forget the first Quake soundtrack by Trent Reznor.
Sounds a lot like Yume Nikki ost, I wonder if the cover is a reference to it
mind sending a link? never heard of it!
@@PadChennington it's free on steam and one of the best games of all time, youd love it and might want to consider covering it. it somehow translates the abstract emotions and visuals of these kinds of albums into an actual interactive experience.
Pad Chennington czcams.com/video/Tr8ZgF4Dc0E/video.html the albums cover especially brings the game to mind with the pixelated buildings in front of a detailed sky. Also the game ends (spoilers) with the main character jumping from their apartment balcony

I love this kind of music,I find i pretty calming yet gives me chills at the same time.
That ironic beauty ey?
Pad Chennington yeah
That's a weird way to spell "Buyer's Market."
Now that's what I call disturbing
So is the creator of that album an actual p3do or was it just fake info?
A T R I U M and A C A D E M Y by Hallmark ‘87 both have that dark, unsettling atmosphere, yet still manage to sound ethereal and dreamlike. Would highly recommend!
Love this channel! So close to 100k. Thanks for the great content.
"Infrastructure smoothie"... It's beautiful and I love it. Thanks Pad.
This man has clearly never heard of Throbbing Gristles.
or stalaggh or hanatarash or the gerogerigegege or hijokaidan
@@syncdi3221 Stalaggh maybe but Hanatarash, Hijokaidan, and The Gerogerigegege aren't all that disturbing. Especially Gerogerigegege.
@@merz-fe7ny are y'all making words up
@@merz-fe7ny Did you just say that Hanatarash isn't all that disturbing? It's not disturbing to me, but in the definition of disturbing to most people, it'd be, since the "singer" almost cut open a dead cat live on stage and caused damage to lots of places they performed and possibly even the audience.
@@syncdi3221 how does their stage show and retarded antics make the music itself disturbing? People always conflate the music and the musician or peripheral shit that doesn't affect the music itself.
This is fascinating. I'm currently working my way through the Geometric Lullabies catalog, and this album just went to the top of my "to listen" list.
Enjoy the ride! So many great releases on there, one of my favorite labels to ever do it!
by far one of my fave albums of all time. thanks to introducing this to me back when this vid released.

nice aesthetic there
Can’t get any darker than early industrial, such as Throbbing Gristle, Nurse With Wound, Coil etc.
This album is one of my favorite releases of the year...for very obvious reasons...represents everything that’s so melancholic yet heart-wrenching about death and life
beautifully said
I just randomly got the album reccomended. The CZcams algorithmn works when it wants to. That's how I found you at 2k subs.
I never knew you worked with vapor 95. I subscribed cause i love the vaporwave genre and it lead me into funk pop which i just adore. Along with many other waves. But about 7 years ago i found that site and was soooo into the style of fashion they released, but alas i was a poor boy and couldnt rationalize buying anything. But the respect never left me. So knowing that i found both of you and that site from love for the genre and that you guys are partnered made me pause your video and smile and write all this. Enjoy your day brother!
I think you do such a great job reviewing and creating a huge hype that we almost expect a trandescental experience, but maybe for many is just another ambient album like the thousands you can find in bandcamp and music history in general.
Great video as always anyways!
MYST was the first thing I thought when I saw the cover. Love that game.
Make a video on Silent Hill music. The environment & ambience it creates still gives me chills till this day. I’d watch a 10hr video on that.

Great video, friend! Thank you for introducing this to me. A very interesting album indeed.
Thanks for watching! Happy to spread the word on a great album, happy listening my friend :)
If you like dark ambient check out these albums:
Coil’s hellraiser , current 93’s dogs blood rising, aphex twin’s selected ambient vol 2, muslimgauze’s zul’m, psychic TV’s dreams less sweet
is selected ambient works vol 2 really ‘dark’ ambient tho
The finest example of dark ambient music is definitely Swans' Soundtracks for the Blind. It's the apotheosis of atmosphere in music, and it simply doesn't get the recognition it more than deserves.
I love how in the art, even though he’s in a falling position, he’s high above any of the skyscrapers. It really does look like he’s ascending to the stars.
thank you very much man you have turned me on to a genre that is amazing. I have so many albums now to delve through and I never would have known any of them without your channel. So I thank you even if my computers memory banks don't haha
If you're into adventurous listenings, have you tried some of the darkest corners of black metal? I don't mean the church-burning angry type, but the truly atmospheric, dark and harrowing stuff. A few bands come to mind, but a good starting point is stuff like Xasthur, Lurker of Chalice, Darkspace, Nortt, and Mahr. Atmospheric black metal is all about creating mood, not unlike dark ambient, but the mood is more frequently geared towards a mixture of melancholy and dread. If you're into unsettling stuff, you might find these corners of extreme music might help you scratch that dark itch.
Yes. Don’t Forget about leviathan!
I've listened to quite a few albums that I would consider disturbing, and I'll gladly list a couple. I highly recommend you check them out, as they are all fantastic albums with plenty of layers. A band called Swans has released a great number of albums, but probably the best ones they've created are To Be Kind and The Seer. These albums are massive and have an insane length of 2 hours each, but they barely feel 2 hours long because of how well paced it is. There is a lot more instrumentation with very vague and almost cryptic lyrics that loosely tie everything together. If you enjoy vaporwave and really getting lost in the sound, these 2 albums are no different. I also recommend an album called Girl With a Basket of Fruit by Xiu Xiu. It's a very different experience, but it has such great writing and twisted lyrics that mirror the events of the Salem Witch Trials. Also the production and instrumentation is insane, and has such massive range that you never get bored.
thank you for the suggestions! I gotta check these out
@@PadChennington Hope you like them man :)
great video, keep it up!
Just picked up this album on vinyl and I absolutely love it
i wouod recommend anything by Geai Floré, he's a master of art-ambient-grunge-i-dont-know-what-to-call-it. He has many many mixtapes and projects that are so unique and artful. Some of his music is more average grunge with distorted vocals, stray piano moments others are moreso Arca-esque electronic tracks. So much emotion that is drowned in reverb and so interesting. It seems through his music at a time he just processes this one event in his life over and over in such a beautiful way. His lyrics are often so blunt and straightforward, that it's a nice contrast to the sound-even though most of them are incoherent. He just does something different with the elements he has. He also pretty much produces all his own music from his own bedroom, and it's really nice to experience something so creative. His official "debut" project Disparition De Moi EP is a nice sampler. So overwhelmingly underrated.
I recommend everyone here who likes this album to also check out Coil, one of dark ambient's most influential artists, they have a massive discography, but personally i like Astral Disaster, Remote Viewing and Black Antlers
mind posting a link! sounds cool
“Musick To Play In The Dark”, Volumes 1 and 2. Also “Love’s Secret Domain” and Backwards”. My favorite used to be “Unnatural History II: Smiling In The Face Of Perversity”. Coil is amazing. I bought “Horse Rotorvator” back in 1989 while in High School, and never looked back.

This album is pretty soothing, I’ll give it that... Besides the eerie sound clip of a screaming man, lmao. For those that have watched this video and/or listened to this album, I'm sure you're pretty open minded. If you're in the mood for something soul-crushing, yet beautfiul at the same time, check out the Funeral Doom subgenre. Some notable bands would be Mournful Congregation, Shape of Despair, Funeral, and many more, but it's definitely an experience, no matter what album you choose.
