- The Supernote A6X2 Nomad is here! What a great device this is. It is not the e-ink tablet that can do everything, but as a place for involved notetaking, and now, great drawing too, this is a really compelling device.

Sorry, but I didn’t see this. I have now put in my order for a Crystal Nomad. This is for my son to use after an onsite visit to clients. It is our first eInk device. I am retired from my IT career and don’t take a lot of notes any more. I hope you have a great year.
Absolutely love that they sent you the device with no strings attached!
They’re letting their product speak for itself!
Yeah, I think that says a lot about them and their belief in their product!
Like a chess grandmaster :))
absolutely gorgeous device... man if I didn't need color, this is the e-note I would get, just soooo nice.
Fingers crossed for colour options somewhere down the line for supernote.
Wow the transparent looks so much better in video than their photos! I've been loving mine :)
Agreed, it's worth seeing in person! The mirror finish of the internals looks amazing.
Love your videos and how you break everything down! Definitely need one of these!
Thanks for the feedback, you can look forward to some more great content featuring this great device!
Mine is on the way! I can't wait!
Wish you joy of it. Let me know how you find it!
that looks like a very nice little e-ink device I always wanted!
It is very desirable!
Just got mine tonight. Loving it
Wish you joy of it.
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks Kit for all you do. Appreciate your videos even on the ones I don't have. Only problem is it sometimes make me want something else! 😀
Keep up the great reviews.
Me too! I so appreciate these videos. I was very well prepared before my Nomad arrived! Thanks Kit!!!
I just got Air 3C but definitely gonna get nomad!!
Good luck with your Samsung Fold 3. Mine had problems last year. They replaced the screen twice under warranty ! The warranty runs out this month, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am thinking of upgrading to a Fold 6 when it is released.
Hey kit great video. As a student who travels around campus and takes laptops or notebooks out of bag numerous times throughout the day, the portable aspect of the A6X2 is very appealing. However as my primary use case is for note taking during lectures or when studying i am a bit concerned about the screen size? Do you think it is big enough for my use case?
So excited, mine is due to arrive in the next hour or so!
A white vegan leather folio though is hopelessly impractical for a device DESIGNED to be shoved in a bag and taken on adventures! What were they thinking?! Any ideas when the blue one will be available?
Or alternate suppliers making any yet?
The crystal back case definitely is beautiful. Would you be able to share the comparison of Nomad with Book Note Air 3C? I also still contemplating moving to e-ink tablet since I am an Apple fan girl. Thanks.
Hiya, yeah, I'll certainly be making comparisons with Boox devices, but probably the Tab Mini C at first because of the size thing. However, considering the Note Air3 C is not too much more than this, or the Note Air3 is even less when complete with case and pen, it might well bear comparison!
If only this device and others like it had a camera. It would make it so much more useful. Take a picture and mark it up or scan a doc. There are many cases where this would be extremely useful.
Interesting, yeah, look at the Boox Tab Ultra line up or the bigme devices if a camera is something that you need. :-)
If it only had colour 😂
If it only had a keyboard 😂
But on a serious note, some devices work well as they are but I can see a reason for a camera.
My own quote on the pen is mightier, ''It's not the pen that is mighty, it is the person who wields it" Wonderful looking device❤. Great content as always👍. Kudos from NYC🗽.
Great improvement to the quote. Many kind thatnks for commenting.
While I've been tempted by others such as the Boox, Kindle and Remarkable; I've stuck with the Supernote A6X just cause it does the handful of things really well. However, now that I've actually tried a Remarkable 2, I do wonder if the feel of the new screen protector would be more suited to me?
I might look at the A5X2 once released as a compliment to my current A6X so I can almost have the best of both worlds.
Yeah, if you enjoy that high friction feel, you'll probably enjoy this!
I'm very curious to hear what you think of the new feel write 2 screen in the long run. I don't care how a pen feels so much as how easily it makes it to write neatly. I have trouble writing neatly with the iPad pencil because it's so slippery; the A5x is much better.
Agreed. It's much nicer writing on these lovely tablets than an apple pencil.
Stationery nerds know the feeling of writing depends so much on the paper, pen, ink, etc
The EMR stylus used has a huge effect as well. Wonder what the target is for Ratta, reMarkable, etc.
Yeah, interesting point, Wacom are certainly pushing this agenda as well and I think that there is a large market for Wacom EMR stationery in Japan. :-)
@@KitBetts-Masters Wow, I didn't know that! Great videos btw!
Does the drawing app have infinite canvas, for my use case, mindmapping?
I must also say that I really appreciate the idea of the modular design so that users can repair the device themselves.
No it's not infinite canvas I am afraid, although, you could start very zoomed in and I think you could work with quite a bit of space that way.
How different is the a6x2 from the a6x? If you have an a6x is it worth upgrading?
I'd love your opinion on the size. I have larger hands, so I think I should hold out for the A5 X2, but man am I tempted to pick up the A6 X2!
Yeah, I'm sure I will prefer the bigger one, but there's something to be said for the portability. I think it's easier to write neatly on a larger screen.
The nice thing is that they will sync together so an A6X2 purchase wouldn't be wasted!
It comes across as sounding quite scratchy when erasing, a pen with a blunt eraser nib opposite the sharp writing nib migh've been a good idea. Interesting to note the lack of tilt support (is it a hardware issue?) and lack of layer blending (could be added in a software update)
I hope they make the A5X2 with in the crystal option. That’s what I’m looking forward to in Q1-2024!
Agreed it's a nice touch.
Oh lord, this thing is lovely, fixing most of the faults of the ereader market IMO, everything should have a removeable battery and SD slot these days.
If i missed it, can you take off that "protective layer" to not have the feel it has? replace it with your own maybe? i think the onyx tab ultra c (non pro) is fine for notes for me, slight bit of texture, less than a wacom plastic tablet for the PC, and that is fine for me.
You can take it off, but I'm not sure that you should. I doubt there are any third party screen protectors yet, so I imagine you would have to sort of cut your own, which I wouldn't recommend!
Thanks, whilst i understand the "writing on paper experience" is a key thing that people want emulated on these pads, personally im just happy with a screen that is responsive, its just a notepad to me where i see others use it in their workflow. @@KitBetts-Masters
As the first e-ink device for someone who wants to take notes while on the road, should I go for this Nomad or go for a Boox Note Air 3c ?
Tough choice I am afraid, I'm going to cover a little comparison in my live stream tonight which may help.
For now, I will stick with my Rhodia notepads for the little amount of note taking I do. I gave my son a Nomad for Xmas and I await his comments. Since Supernote’s stated aim is to produce devices for writing, I don’t see why they have a drawing app rather than apps for grammar checking, spell checking, dictionaries or perhaps a thesaurus ? Perhaps they could have an AI chat bot to help with writing. Enjoy your reading. Cheers from down under.
I'm kind of disappointed the screen is smaller than its predecessor. Any idea if they are going to release something with a bigger screen?
When do you think they'll be releasing an A5 x2?
I wonder if they did the screws because the crystal back is less flexible than the white back material meaning that a clip system wouldn't work for it.
Yeah, interesting point!
I think they try to make the crystal back have a more premium feel. So a detachable clip system on the back feels cheap.
I wonder if the bluetooth keyboard experience the same as the A5X? For some reason, typing with a bluetooth keyboard on my a5x doesn’t compare to typing on a computer or remakable type folio.
Also, why make a drawing app without color? I don’t get it.
Yeah, first thoughts about the typing is that it is not as fast as typing on a Boox or a remarkable. You'd need to be a confident typist I think.
Does the writing feel different than the current a5x?
Yeah different, I liked the old feel, but I find this just as good. I think eventually I will like this feel more, but at first it's a bit... different!
I appreciate you checking if it has tilt.
Cheers, yeah, I wonder if they plan on bringing that laterz seems an odd omission.
@@KitBetts-Masters that'll be really nice. I can grudgingly accept it on a grayscale note taking tablet. If it were a color tablet with full featured art apps, then tilt wouldn't be optional, it'd be mandatory.
Hi Kit, in your 'Is the Supernote still the best eink pad for writers' video, of six months ago, you said that you could imagine writing a whole novel on the reMarkable 2. I think that the pen on paper experience is going to be the most important thing for me, and I want that 'nice place', but ease of editing might be more important. So, please, is the Nomad 'writing feel' approaching the reMarkable 2 yet (as it greases up and wears in). Thanks, again.
I think that this is a great comment, I will try to address it in the A6X2 livestream I am doing in a little while.
1. Hi, Kitt and everyone. I tried to download Atelier 1.0.48 and got the message: "Current system version does not match this app version, please make sure your device is running the latest system version." and a Go to Update button. I am running Chauvet 3.14.27 and a check for update says it is current. How do I add this application? Has anyone run into this or better, find a workaround? Thanks!
2. I also own an A5X. I was able to authorize OneDrive on it. The option is not available on the A6X2. Will it be added soon?
Very curious on how fast it is compared to Kindle scribe.
Great, there will certainly be some comparisons coming soon. It feels very responsive, and the old one was pretty quick as well.
I have both, and I think it is safe to say that the Scribe is much MUCH faster and also feels much better to write on. Unfortunately, the software on the Scribe just completely sucks, so it's not really an option for any serious note taker.
Kindle scribe is at ßtill best @@mbrochh82
Correct opinions.@@mbrochh82
She is really beautiful, but although I recognize that she specializes in writing, I would like to know how develops when reading in different formats
Yeah, interesting point, I'll aim to cover that in my content on the device. :-)
Which pen is the clicky one?
Push up Standard Pen
Click click. I'd suggest the £15 extra for the Heart of Metal 2 pen is well worth it though. 🙂
@@KitBetts-Masters May I ask why you prefer it? I was initially going to get the HOM 2 pen but was now considering the standard. I plan on ordering today.
I'm not entirely convinced about the benefits of this product for travel without backlighting. Personally, I find backlighting to be very useful during my travels.
Yeah, I find it a little odd they don't add it in. But there are benefits to not having it. Slightly thinner, and closer ink to the very top surface of the screen.
Looking forward to the A5 version in a … few months? I think?
Yeah, spring I think. I'm very confident about that now.
I just got mine today and I so excited I'm going to be really unpopular though, I do not like the new film. It's sticky, I don't like writing on something that's sticky. I'm going to give it a couple weeks as a try, but I suspect I will be peeling it off and getting another film on it.
Do you think the stickiness has kinda gone away over time? When I first got my a5x the screen was sort of a bit “sticky” and I wasn’t expecting that. But after a little while the stickiness kinda went away and writing got smoother. I know this new screen is a rougher texture though, so I’m curious
@MyHam-os4bq Yes, the stickiness is gone. I went onto Reddit and read what others were doing to fix. Clean surface with damp, not wet, cloth and drop of soap. Rub with fingers, the lot. I finally took a raggedy old cotton T-shirt and rubbed like mad, and now it's perfect! I love it!! Wouldn't have been so disappointed and nearly returned if I'd known up front potential issue and solution.
@@NizoniWulf-mz9ss interesting. Does it actually have a more paper-like feel when writing still? I’m asking these detailed questions as if I’ll be able to afford this new model anytime in the next year or so 😅
@MyHam-os4bq 🤣 it does... as much as not writing with paper and pen/pencil can about get... and depending on what paper and pen/pencil feel you prefer.
@@NizoniWulf-mz9ss ah, I see. Thanks for the tips, and enjoy
Hi Kit: I have a suggestion/challenge for you: Show us how you would use "Second Brain" or a similar way of planning/Note taking with an eInk device of your choice, and app off your choice.
Appreciate if you use a Boox' device, but feel free to use the eInk device of your preference.
Also would love to hear if this Second Brain or PARA Method is something you'd continue using, or you have a better system to organizing yourself.
Looking forward to watching that on my 4K TV.
Yeah, I am on it!
Supernote, if you are reading comments … on the reading end of the spectrum:
- not just Kindle, Kobo! Please.
- Libby
- Pocket
- Readwise
Cheers. -t
I occasionally think this too however one of the great things about the Supernote is it's so focused. I even sideloaded apks and tried ones like Libby and while it worked, it was not the best experience.
Yeah, I agree some other reading apps would be good.
Yeah, I've never tried installing apks, but maybe I should. 🙂
@@KitBetts-Masters I wouldn't recommend it; Libby worked ok but the background processes would kill my battery.
In the end, if you want to play with apps just stick with the Boox. Hopefully Supernote could have a new focus on their app store with this release and get some more reader services on it.
Or if they could just support for Koreader. That would be ideal.
Too small!
There is a giant PULL TAB and you use scissors to open it. Now how does this inspire confidence in what you said since you can’t follow directions???
No, the pull tab is for taking it out of the little cardboard shelving unit box it came in. Thanks for the comment.
Imagine trolling the Internet, thinking you're clever, and then....
