As a gun enthusiast and someone who chooses to lawfully carry, I would much rather drive off and pay $300 for a new part, than to deal with the legal ramifications of having to pull the trigger.
But as of right now, my none Tesla doesn’t have this type of device. Your first job as a responsibly armed citizen is to avoid having to use a firearm, unless absolutely nothing else will solved the threat to life or limb.

Yeah, but the repair of the now destroyed charge port - and more - will definitely be more expensive than buying this gadget.

I highly doubt Tesla approves this device. Watching the video back over again and looking at the strain and stress it puts onto the charger it damn near pulls The cable out of the charging machine. I really wouldn't want to use that charger after somebody over stress the cable like that. A lot of newer cables actually have liquid cooling in this kind of activity could damage the machine. Great video. Very much appreciate that you showed this off. Has been very much needed for a long time now. Especially for females and older folks.
A funny story regarding a somewhat related incident with an ICE vehicle. Years ago my father flew down to Florida with a family friend, who rented a car for them to get around. On their way back, they were running late to catch their flight. The friend hurriedly stopped at a gas station to fill up so he wouldn't be charged the insanely high cost per gallon that renters charge. They then hurriedly left the station and within 5 minutes the friend starts cursing and hitting the steering wheel while looking at the side mirror.
My father was alarmed and asked, "What's wrong! What's wrong! What happened?"
The friend replied with, "Those f'ing kids!!! Look what they did to the car. It's all damaged! It's gonna cost fortune to fix and my insurance raised!!!"
He pulls the car over and runs out to quickly investigate the damage... And you guessed it.
In his hurry, he took off without pulling out the gas hose. The handle and half the hose were being dragged all along the highway. There was no damage to the car.
I could not stop laughing when my father told me the story.

Seems to me a retrofit of the charging receptacle - spring load the socket, provide a solenoid operated latch and Bob's your uncle. I no longer have access to the tooling, else I would prototype one. So for the nonce, I depend upon my friend Mr. Ruger and keep my head on a swivel.

I think one should at the very least have some pepper spray with them...and definitely check the laws because not all of them are technically legal in every state.
While this is expensive but cheap enough to possibly save your life, the issue I have with this is it still gives you a false sense of security. What I mean is when you're getting out of your car to plug in the car or unplug the car that's when you're at one of your most vulnerable moments. This gadget won't help. It definitely comes in handy once it's in use.

    1) gas stations are way sketchier. 2)That is not how one uses a gun. Really. You do not
"just shoot". If the danger is human, usually brandishing a weapon makes the dimwit go away. Opportunistic creeps do not want to get shot. (I stopped a 5-person on 2 mugging just by brandishing pepper spray and I am under 5'). A simple "don't move" will fix MOST such situations. 3) a $300 device that is one-use is insane.

The people who are calling this dumb don't know what this is. Watch the video in the link. This is a safety device that allows you to be able to disconnect from a charger in dangerous areas without having to get out of the car. A lot of the time, these chargers can be in very sketchy areas. And at night, you are a sitting duck. By design, you must exit the car and remove the charger before you can drive off and leave. This is preferable most of the time and has its benefits. But in edge cases, it can put the driver in harms way by FORCING them to exit the vehicle to be able to escape and leave the scene. This allows the driver to have an out without putting them in harms way with minimal damage. Again, it's meant for emergencies only. Even gas pumps have emergency disconnects. More so to protect the pumps from stupid people. But there is documented cases of people driving off for their own saftey vs. sheer dumb forgetfulness.
The only dumb thing about this product is its price. For something thats only useful in edge cases its overpriced.

I talk realistically about Tesla. Most of the time it's good as I like what they do and it's why I made an entire channel about them.
But realistic means sometimes things are bad, like this czcams.com/video/jqp3F75g6s4/video.html
There are plenty of other negative videos that CZcams probably didn't suggest to you. And read the comments there, they say "wow he only talks negatively about Tesla" 😂

I figured some people would feel that way which is why I explained the reason for making the video and encouraged ppl to NOT use my referral link. All I can say is the videos are clearly titled to let you know what they are about before you spend any of your time on them.

Looks from your handle like you are dutch. Carrying a loaded gun in your car for no reason, is very dangerous. The police would arrest you for that in the Netherlands. Unless you will shoot your way out of that.
If you think it is ok to start shooting because you are scared is in any way ok, you have a serious mental problem, and I recommend getting help.

If you are going to experiment with Tesla's chargers you should at least put some foam padding on the charger handle. Hitting the ground that hard is a great way to break it.

  • @johnnyman55555
    @johnnyman55555 Před 2 měsíci

"There are many situations that shooting someone isn't appropriate." You clearly have no knowledge of firearms and or self defense. If the known presence of your firearm isn't enough to deter a threat then you are very likely being threatened with a deadly weapon and would lawfully be able to defend yourself. "Do you really want to have to shoot somebody?" If they are endangering the life of myself, my friends or family, or people around me then yes. I wouldn't hesitate to eliminate that threat. Also, yes my 9mm can be effective against a moose. Just because you dont trust yourself to protect yourself doesn't mean others can't. If you are sooooo scared to charge then don't charge in public or buy a different vehicle. If you use this product be prepared to pay likely several thousand to fix the damaged supercharger. This product is ridiculous lol
