  • The Rolex Ref. 16750 was first introduced in 1979 and was in production until 1988. The main difference between the Rolex GMT ref Ref. 1675 and the 16750 was the introduction of the Cal. 3075 movement which allowed for instantaneous date advancement also known as "quick set"
    This specific 1985 Rolex GMT Master Ref. 16750 is insanely special for a couple of reasons. For starters, the case is unpolished retaining its factory finishing with the chamfers on the lugs clearly visible. This specific example retains its original dial and hands as well as its original bezel insert. The tritium lume has achieved a nice ivory patina with the dial acquiring a lovely spidering effect on the lacquering of the dial. But "Look Closer" yes this specific 16750 reference was retailed by Tiffany & Co. which makes this insanely rare and also insanely cool! This example would make a great daily driver for the man always on the go who needs a little extra something special!

    Great video review and discussion. [My interest? I own a 1981 GMT-Master, all original down to the dial, hands and even bezel (red-backed factory, not blue-backed service), on original "GMT"-Jubilee 62510H/50/550 bracelet, with original accessories (box, booklet). It's made a keeper, versus a flipper, out of me! Classic as they come.] What did I find VERY surprising in this video review was the co-branded Tiffany & Co. signage on the GMT-Master dial, and it's incredible sloppiness as seen under magnification. This is indeed pointed out in the video. The Rolex signage at 6 o'clock is clean and crisp. The Tiffany signage is a mess, comparatively. Yes, print standards and technologies vary, but how in the world did Rolex allow Tiffany & Co to imprint the dials with such a lack of precision? I don't know the answer, but I assume that the co-branding was done well after the dial left the Rolex factory without the need for quality-approval by Rolex.

    A spider dial is interesting when it’s stamped like that. One must be really confident in being able to maintain the stamp. Arguably the stamp is the major value driver over it being a spider dial.

    In 1989 did they ever make a Tiffany dial for GMT or did they stop a few years before hand?

    Now, how to tell a mint unpolished vintage vs one that potentially had a laser welded professionally refinished case?

    • @craftandtailored
      @craftandtailored  Před 3 lety +2

      the lug holes are the tell.... also the width of the lugs... additionally factory finishing details look much different than a modern refinished case... Video idea Maybe??

      @@craftandtailored Please do mate, it is getting harder as u definitely already know there are many very specialized firms that does this service well and it's not an issue if it's disclosed but I'm sure there are dckheads out there that'll try to pass a restored watch as 'unpolished original factory finish mint condition safe queen etc'

    65 years since its introduction, the Rolex GMT-master remains the sole timepiece strictly chosen on a personal basis by both military & civil pilots, Russian cosmonauts and International & American astronauts ! #MoonwatchUniverse
