How's everyone doing? Has your skin changed during this time? My hands and face have not been happy!
Hi Michelle. This is highly informative. Only issue with my hands are my nails which tend to be brittle when frequently washed. Most hand creams didn't really nourish my nails. Anyways, I would love to hear another video about Sunscreen about Body vs Face and their formulation. And what's your favourite... Thanks Michelle.
Lab Muffin Beauty Science my hands are in much worse shape (I suspect Iâm concentrating on the washing part & forgetting the moisturising part). I have a few hand masks in my masks box, are they worth using?

@@starkeane8964 A coat of nail polish might help waterproof your nails - as long as you don't use nail polish remover or pick it off, which can make them a bit more damaged!
Whenever I apply products to my face I rub the excess into my hands, so morning and night my hands get a great routine of actives, humectants, occlusives and sunscreen. Once I'm in bed I rub a liberal layer of Uriage Bariederm into my nail beds. After I wash my hands during the day I apply a regular hand cream or a moisturising sunscreen. I'm 60 yo but my hands look like a 40 yo đđ»
Your hands are super pampered! I think I'll start doing this too, it takes me years to finish products đ
Lab Muffin Beauty Science, itâs a great way to use up whatever is left on your hands after you apply products to your face. I just use a bit more than I would normally needđ
Cheers for the video content! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered - Soodalyami Impressive Commencement (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for slowing the aging process to a crawl without the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my cousin after many years got astronomical results with it.
I find pure shea butter more effective than any hand or foot cream I've tried. It might not be very practical during the day because it makes your hands greasy for a while, but it should be OK overnight.
I'm not surprised! Shea butter is one of the main ingredients in Lush's Lemony Flutter, which was a nail blogger cult favourite back in the day (nail bloggers go through a lot of super drying acetone) đ
I work as a flight attendant and I feel like dry and cracked hands are part of the job even during normal times (dry cabin air plus constant handwashing spells doom) . I've been using Eucerin Aquaphor as an overnight treatment on my hands to heal them. Weleda Skin Food Cream works really well too, it has a fragrance however (which I don't mind personally). The best handcream I have ever used is called Indulona, but it's hard to come by. That cream was magic.
I have Vaseline and body cream everywhere in my house; my night stand, dresser, bathroom, inside my bags - each bag has a small jar of Vaseline & a hand cream -
I always try to make sure that my face skincare products also get rubbed and soaked into my hands after applying on my face so I can spread the skincare love around!
This is super comprehensive and addressed all the questions i ever had on moisturising the hand. Thank you.
I work in a retail pharmacy setting and a friend works in a kitchen, we are both prone to severe skin cracking from handwashing and swear by Aveeno Eczema lotion. It nourishes, soothes and protects
I find that washing my hands with an oil cleanser at home has helped a lot. I rub it on dry hands and add some water. My oil cleanser gets milky when water is added. After rinsing I use La Roche Posay Cicaplast on the back of my hands and fingers. I donât need much in my palms. Then I seal it in with plain Aquaphor ointment.
I have learned so much from skincare since I started watching your channel. I've always struggled with dry hands and the hand sanitiser surely hasn't helped.
Thanks Michelle!
I've had no choice but to use the Great Barrier Relief from Krave Beauty on my hands and CeraVe on the tub to seal it in. I know GBR it's too good of a treatment but my hands are worth it. I've never had crusty dry hands like I do now. Living that nurse life!
Great video! I knew most of these tips, but I only recently learned of the importance of proper hand drying. All my life I've been the sort of person to wipe my hands on my clothes to dry them, which isn't very effective. Switching to a real towel made a big difference to me
Me too! Always walking out of the bathroom with hand prints all over my pants đ
Thanks for informing that we could use socks instead of cotton gloves (for night-handmoisturising-session)!
I don't have cotton gloves and can't get it anywhere
Me too! Finally a use for socks with broken down elastic đ
This is so good! Much needed, thanks Michelle
Yes!! I used petrolatum at night and put some cotton gloves. Super
I bought a particularly gentle hand soap to use and I've had to buy some more creams and extra nourishing masks as we get into drier colder months in Australia.
Thereâs a fairly new hand care brand called Nursem, developed by and for nurses in mind. They also give products back to nurses. They have a hand wash, hand cream and barrier cream. The barrier cream has good ingredients, just waiting for it to come back in stock.
I loved this video because for the last 4 winters or so I've had dermatitis on my hands. I went to a dermatologist a couple of years ago and after a week with corticoids the advice to avoid getting it that bad was to use gloves and a Barrier Cream. Mine is from the french brand A-derma.
I've been trying a gazillion hand creams nonetheless, and I love the approach of a thick occlusive cream at night, and more light ones during the day (I have more than one in use at the same time because I keep one in my handbag, another one at work, and another one near the sofa). My favorites are Eucerin Atopicontrol for the night, even though *Unrefined Shea Butter* also works really well, and for the day *Palmer's Cocoa Butter Intensive Relief* or CeraVe's Reparative hand cream because they dry quite fast and don't leave your hands slippery.
What I've tried - with notes:
Neutrogena Swiss formula cream (it is actually more of a balm, think slightly more movable than Vaseline but not at all a cream): pre-pandemic, I thought this stuff was great. Since March, this stuff doesn't help. It didn't hurt my skin but it couldn't penetrate - my skin was just greasy and flaky. An awful mess.
Bioderma Atoderm line: Atoderm PP Baume is a lotion, not a cream or balm. It is gentle and has some moisturizing benefits, so again I liked it for my hands and body prior to the crisis, but since it has underperformed for my hand needs. The Atoderm hand cream is a notch better - but still didn't heal my hands.
La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5: I've only used this since the pandemic started, so I can't make claims to how it performs on slightly dry hands, but on my very distressed hands, it performed the best of the products mentioned so far - the reason I gave it up was it only comes in a very small tube and a hefty price. I would describe the consistency as very similar to a thick mineral sunscreen. It did not irritate my skin but it didn't quite heal it all the way either, though I was unsure anything but abstaining from washing would the last time I used it.
Gold Bond hand cream: thought it was a miracle once upon a time when I had winter, seasonal dry hands. This is yet another product that works quite well on skin that is dry but not distressed.
O'Keefes "working hands:" this product has some great reviews on Amazon, specifically from people whose work requires very frequent and vigorous washing. It burned the living crap out of my hands on first application - after I'd gone and bought 6 of them, so convinced it had to be The One.
Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre. This is it. It's known as a facial moisturizer. I was all out of everything else and desperate. My hands transformed from scaly and stripped in MINUTES. This stuff is insane. Make sure you buy it from an authorized seller. Beautybay and dermstore are guaranteed to be authentic - Amazon can be hit or miss with overseas products.
I used to hate the Neutrogena hand creme, and other thick ones, but now it's good option. I have to work outside my house, so I wash my hands like crazy :)
thankyou for sharingâ€ïž
Thank you!
I had severe ezcema on my hands for 2 years while working in aged care. How I'm managed was wearing cotton gloves soaks in moisturizer under latex gloves. This was before covid. I had a whole system of how to change them and how to keep my cotton gloves clean. I changed my cotton gloves 2-3 times a shift. I don't recommend this nowadays because it's too risky. But you can wear cotton gloves under you plastic ones for food prep
Would love to hear your thoughts and in-depth review on stemcell and placenta ingredients in skincare. They are so trendy these days.
Cicaplast mains is the best .glycerin and niacinamide are really helpful..it is not greasy at all, too.thanks for the informative video !
I haven't noticed a difference, but I tend to get dry hands in winter so I always work on upping my lotion anyway! I don't know how I missed this video, rough hands are terrible!
The nice thing, though, is I have a mask that stands out from my mouth. Putting a load of chapstick on is so, so easy when you don't have to worry about it being schmeared!
Love u as a person beautiful. Love ur channel also. Can u do a video on safe skin care products for us pregnant ladies from facial wash, serums, moisturizers, sun screen and everything in between? And which brand offers optimal strength during pregnancy. Thank u and đ
I've found that the hand creams I have right now aren't enough for how much im washing my hands. I'm using my skincare products that I use on my face on my hands too now which helps! The ones I use have hyaluronic acid and ceramides in as my face is naturally dry, so im lucky in a way that I already own plenty of these!
I am really liking Hamilton Urederm on Ky hands, it seems to make a big difference. Also, QV gentle wash is life... I use it everywhere even my face. My hands haven't suffered too badly although I have started picking due to anxiety from social distancing. Might try the cotton gloves tonight đ
I love Urederm! I think it can sometimes be a bit irritating for very irritated skin (it has urea, which can exfoliate which you probably don't want to do if your skin's already cracked and peeling), but if your skin is still resilient it's amazing đ
Cavilon is usually used for incontinence associated dermatitis or intertrigo. I never knew you could use it on dry hands as well
My go to right now is using those cotton eczema gloves and plain n cheap petrolatum. Sleep in those and wake up to soft hands đ€
Thanks for uploading this video, have been kinda concerned that moisturising handwashes or using moisturising body wash don't remove the virus. And also, great tips on the water temp and use of sanitiser over handwashing too much. My mums hands are dried and cracked soo badly right now she can't even use her fingerprint scanner hahaha
I can't believe I'm following a beauty channel, but damn, when it's right, it's right. good on ya
Haha thank you! Glad you've found the information useful đ
I also recommend using soap-free soap in the shower as well. Every little bit helps. I do a combination of using gloves for dishwashing, soap-free shower soap (I use Ahava bar soaps), and sodium lauryl sulfate-free sensitive hand wash. My current hand wash is from a Canadian company called Attitude (attitudeliving.com), but after just checking their website, it seems that their sensitive skin care line is sold out right now! đ©
all i can say is use products with shea butter and seal with oil. def helps
I have a hand cream with urea (Eucerin Advanced Repair) and it's the best for when the backs of my hands get flaky. I don't use it every day, because I don't know if I could accidentally over exfoliate (is that what urea does?) But I use it 2-3 times a week. And CeraVe lotion all the other times. Also I use an argan oil on my cuticles every day, and the excess I rub into my knuckles, and I think that's a huge help as well. I guess my hand skincare is just as complicated as my face skincare. đ It works though!!
I know that hot water is bad for the skin, but I enjoy it so much I can't resist. I wash my hands thoroughly with basic soap and hotter water that I'm supposed to and my hands are in great shape if I moisturise with a basic drugstore moisturiser once a day and once at night. My son on the other hand (lol) uses gentle liquid soap and cold to lukewarm water and the skin on his hands is in terrible shape. He's 14 and lazy about moisturising them, so there's that.... it's just funny how different your skin can react even in the same family
I always suffer from dry hands as a frequent hand washer. I was using the Hemp hand cream from The Body Shop which always worked really well for me, but over the past few months hasnât been very effective (despite applying throughout the day). My hands feel like wrinkly sandpaper! Which hand creams have people used that they could recommend for this? Might try one thatâs in the video but not sure which is best đ
i am surprised to hear that about the cold air. Mainly because the hot air makes my hands sweaty, thus making eczema on my fingers very itchy, and cold air is a relief.
Love your work. As a massage therapist, I get dry skin due to all of the hand washing and disinfecting. What about those little skin tags on the sides of nails. Do not pull them, but cut them off. I have filed them down with a nail file too. Stay safe, please, everyone!
Yes, cutting them off is much safer than pulling! It might also help to use a chemical exfoliant (like a glycolic acid product) on the sides of your nails every week.
Hi! Could you make a video about BB creams with SPF and good ingredients? :)
Solid shea butter is also great to use before bed đ
Quick question, how long should I wait after using hand sanitizer to eat something with my fingers, eg. burgers or fries?
thank you for your thorough videos!
could you make a video for what happens when you mess up your skin barrier on your face please? I had been wondering why my supposedly beginner/mild actives had been causing irritation/itch (niacinamide and ascorbic acid 8% both the ordinary) but you mentioned in your dry vs dehydrated video that might be because I messed up the barrier. not sure what products to proceed with now.. :(
thank you!
Dear Michelle, my handy got so dry, red and I saw a lot of patches. I used the Neutrogena Foot cream as often as I could during a few days in my Homeoffice. It's sticky but much better at healing than the hand cream. After my skin seem to be healed I started the use of the Ordinary Retinol in Oil formula (once a week) and I simply love it. My hands are a lot smother and do not get so dry and irritated. What do you think on retinol for hands?
I think it's just like for your face - if it isn't irritating and you wear sunscreen and you can afford it, then it's a great idea!
I would love to see a video where you tell how teeth whitening works đ
Great video! I use so much alcohol hand sanitiser, pure Velvet soap bars and alcohol wipes my hands started to get rough and super dry. I've switched soap to CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. Night is damp hands LRP Cicablast Baume B5 or CeraVe thick moisturiser then on cracked fingers Vaseline or Healing Balm and slip on cotton mittens. If its Tret night I'll put it on the back of my hands, but lately my skincare has no routine, I just fix the noticeable cracked, wrinkled old hands...should I make a sourdough starter?
Make one!
I'm this close to joining the sourdough bandwagon ||
none of the products you mentioned for hand wash substitutes are available in the USA, do you have any other suggestions?
What about antibacterial soap, would that be better than sanitizer?
Just Subscribed & clicked the alert. đ
Yay! Thank you â€ïž
For the next video can you talk about medicube claims on pore tightening ingredients. The statistics they provided talks about the amount of people vs diameter of pore shrinking. There are many ads about them, but I want to know the details from a professional.
I need recommendation for water proof hand gloves, l had one but itâs finger tip tore
I have a question about very heavy occlusive hand creams like the 3m one, which could last through several washes. Is this a good thing? I thought I remember you saying in a previous video about coronavirus hygiene that lipids protect viral particles, so wouldn't remaining grease prevent you from fully sanitizing yo your hands?
I've been reserving my heavy duty moisturizing (Curel+Vaseline) for overnight for that reason
That was in the context of oil mixed unevenly into a hand sanitiser, so you'd be applying poorly mixed oil and watery liquid onto your dirty hands - the globs of oil could hit your hand first and cover up germs, then there wouldn't be enough alcohol to lift the oil and get to the germs (imagine dunking your hands into greasy water - your hands will be covered in a noticeable layer of grease unless you follow up with soap).
On the other hand, when washing your hands after applying a barrier cream, you'd have washed off most of the surface oils. There will always be some level of oil remaining on your skin, even when it doesn't feel oily - the structure of skin is made up of cell "bricks" stuck together by oily intercellular lipid "mortar". The dimethicone sinks into the intercellular domains and doesn't feel "greasy", so it isn't an issue. You also apply it on clean skin to begin with (whereas with sanitiser you're putting it on dirty skin).
Hope that makes sense!
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience that makes sense, thank you!
Glysomed continues to be my hand cream of choice haha
I have a leftover bottle of Cerave Facial cleanser that was too drying for my face. Could I use this as handwash? Would it still kill the virus?
This is super late but basically surfactants "slide" the germs off your hands with proper hand washing technique. So a dollar store soap is just as good as a $50 one. I believe cerave is surfactant free tho, so it wont have these properties. I may be wrong
Do you have a video on atopic dermatitis heâs dish soap seems to be the worst on my hands i have been prescribed a steroid-ointment to help it but still seems like the skin is breaking down and getting irritated
I often use white cotton gloves from Woolworthes, apply vaseline and then gloves on top
So does all the cream that you mentioned in the video contains petrolatum?
I don't understand the concept of "water is irritating", can you explain more about this? I'm not sure if I'm understanding it correctly.
Would you recommend the 5% Retinoid Oil by The Ordinary? My skin is quite dry. I use an extra gentle wash with a low PH and have since changed the way I dry mum and not rubbing whilst drying. Seeing results already.
Retinoids can be irritating to skin tho which is why people get flaky skin with it when first starting to use it
My soap has a grand total of 4 or 5 ingredients - water, fat, potassium hydroxide (lye), natural colorant, and sometimes scent. people. I've been using my own soap for well over 20 years now, and lordy! can I tell if I use something else. My skin has a conniption. Make your own soap, people! It isn't that difficult, and your skin will love you for it.
When I wash my hands with Dermol 500 will i ingest It when eating because it feels like it stays on my skin, and if so is that unsafe
Can VITAMIN A topical formulation (SERUM& MOISTURIZER) be the answer to dry, rough, cracked, harden HAND'S PALM'S????????
You can use superglue to seal cracks in your skin? This is safe? I had to replay that part a few times. I didn't believe my eyes or ears. lol
I never would have thought of superglue as skincare.
Yep! 3 separate dermatologists suggested this.
I have used it in the past to heal papercuts on joints or fingertips, because if I don't then they just get worse, take forever to heal, and scar thanks to my too dry skin and too frequent handwashing. Steri-strips are great but they don't work as well as they need to on too taut dry skin that gets washed heavily.
Yes! It's super helpful if you don't have liquid bandage. It sounds scary with the ingredients and it smells very chemically, but it's much better than keeping those cracks exposed. My dad and I would use it when fishing because obviously we're handling fish and if anything gets into those cracks it can cause a nasty infection.
Iâve used it for years on skin cracks on fingers and heels. Soak them until theyâre soft and then glue them. Itâll last for a day or so. When I worked in an automotive service department, the mechanics and body shop guys always used it on their cuts.
When youâre so OCD about placement of objects behind you in your video. đ I love it & I LđVE pink!
đ« The pink camel was alms too adorable! đ
đ

I hear so much about eczema but not a ton on psoriasis. We are entering the time of year when my husbandâs hands will begin to dry out and crack and his psoriasis will absolutely freak out! Itâs only on his hands and wrists but boy does it get angry. He is a mechanic. He wears gloves as much as he can but like most mechanics his gloves are never quite big enough and they break easily. Can you make any specific recommendations for psoriasis??
My husband has psoriasis and I find eucerine advanced cleansing body and face cleanser to work well and eucerin body lotion for dry and sensitive skin ..it has lactic acid which is gently exfoliating
Thank you so much for this video. One question, isnât cyanoacrylate (superglue) toxic, especially when applied to broken skin as it can get into the bloodstream much more easily?
Nope, it reacts when it hits water to form polymers which can't absorb easily.
Lab Muffin Beauty Science Thank you sooo much! Exactly what I needed. â€ïž
I love my CeraVe soap for very dry skin â€ïž
The bar or liquid?
The hydrating one? Which one do u prefer?
as someone who's had eczema and atopic dermatitis I am horrified that people said they would be willing to deal with the consequences of BLEACHING their hands
It was men who were asking - men tend to have thicker skin, plus I think there's a bit of a culture where they just want to see things burn ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
đ
It took years for me to figure out that any soap which contains MI and MCI will trigger dermatitis so now I avoid this ingredient. Over washing will still dry my hands but lotion/cream will fix it easily.
I have issues with a lot of shampoos that have MI and MCI - it's annoying how it's replacing parabens in a lot of places đ
Lab Muffin Beauty Science Yes same for shampoos, liquid laundry detergent and dish soaps. Itâs an all out ban in my household âïž. Bring back parabens?
@@francedangela9556 I've never had an issue with parabens, apart from people telling me I should stop recommending products with them đ
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience What are MI and MCI? And what ingredients are considered soap?
Hey Michelle have you gotten the silver test results back for k beauty by any chance?
Unfortunately not! The uni shut down face-to-face teaching due to COVID-19 and it was going to be run on a teaching machine, so who knows when it'll be fired up for the semester now đ
Lab Muffin Beauty Science sadly then Iâm left with an opened Benton serum. But thank you so much for trying and replying!
Are there similar cleansers that can be found in the US?
I think Aquanil can be found in the US, I've also since had recommendations for Cerave and Cetaphil cleansers đ
Why notification bell is not working?
Ughhhhh CZcams needs to fix this! I've heard that it isn't working for a lot of people...
Can you go into a bit more detail regarding water? You mention (and provide a solid citation) that water is an irritant, but one of the suggestions later in the video is to soak the hands in water for 10 minutes, prior to applying cream. I realize constant exposure to water (eg, wet clothing) can break down the skin barrier, and that hard or chlorinated water can be problematic, but is pure water, on its own, irritating?
I was also confused about those seemingly contradictory pieces of advice. Surprised this was the only comment I could find about it. Following on the off-chance it ever gets answered.
Wait, SUPERGLUE???
Is it bad if I use bioderma atoderm fragrance free on my face during the night?
Not at all! The Atoderm range is great đ
Please please can somebody help i found online hand sanitizer it says it is antibacterial, it is 100 ml here are the ingr. Active: 70 % ethanol per 100 g of product and then lower aqua, glycerin, aminomethyl propanol, carbomer, parfum
is there good enough alcohol in this to fight viruses as well?
Yep
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience thank u so much for your answer âș
Can you do a video on how pollution affects our skin? Specifically fluoridation of water??? I am SO interested in your opinion on this!!! I started going to college in NYC and I had an increase in jawline/neck acne, dullness, and even fine lines! Thanks âșïž
Can we prepare our own soap at home at low pH
Nope, due to the structure of soap it can't work to clean when it's at low pH.
My hands usually get bad in winter, it's coming into summer here now and they are still bad. Thank you for this handy video.
Happy to help!
How about olive oil?
I would recommend other oils over olive oil - olive oil is frequently contaminated, and has a high proportion of oleic acid triglycerides which can be irritating.
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience Thank you so much for your reply â€ïž
I believe that the question of contamination is highly relevant depending on where you are from. However, here our vegetable eating oils producesed here are very clean and cheap ones highly filtered and unaromatic, too - we have rapeseed oil, grape oil, sunflower seed oil, corn oil, and olive oil. (Oils made from nuts generally seem too aromatic and a lot of those are imported from places with questionable product safety.)
Rapeseed oil I don't really find working - so would you recommend grape, corn, or sunflower seed oil? â€ïž
Can visible light penetrate UPF clothing?
Yes - UV and visible light aren't the same, UPF only measures UV (and just like with SPF some UV will get through)
Lab Muffin Beauty Science Then how come areas that are covered from the sun donât look sun damaged? For example, someoneâs butt skin looks perfect even though theyâve spent years outdoors without sunscreen on it and just wearing clothes?
@@dermlover1 It reduces the amount of UV that gets through - the percentage that gets through is 100 divided by the UPF number
Excuse me, is it ok if I just use my face moisturizer on my hands?
Definitely ok, just expensive lol
Alice Gong thank you :D
Hiađ€đđ
how long is your hair now?
I cut off about 2 inches but it's still past my bra strap - it's time to get it re-bleached but lockdown đđđ
Can you review Geologie? I need to know if itâs just another overmarked skincare line like lumin and curology or if thereâs actually merit to their mission.
*Vaseline is amazing. I have dry skin and my lips get especially chapped when Iâm filming my CZcams videos so I always have a pot of Vaseline at my desk when Iâm recording*
would we need to wash our hands more thoroughly after using an oil based handcream because the oil may protect the virus?
What's up fellow clean freaks?! đ anyway, if you're looking for natural products, this is not the video for you as all of the ones that she's talking about seem like standard products and not made with natural ingredients.
For cracks on your hand are you talking like regular super glue or is there a skin one?
