    Back in the 40s-50s many women wore those pretty elegant white gloves out and about town, i’ve always felt this was a fashion that should be brought back, and perhaps now is the time especially in the bigger cities where they would definitely come in handy!!

    As someone with palm psoriasis I have to admit I’m taking a small amount of sadistic satisfaction at everyone’s dry, rashy hands🙈. I highly suggest aveeno hand cream (the regular one not the extra dry one!), it’s the only hand cream I’ve ever used consistently that’s both been moisturising enough and not triggered a psoriasis flare up. Honestly the stuffs liquid gold, i think I might have accidentally started a cult for the stuff at my workplace after the managers bought the worlds most stripping soap🤨.

    I work in a hospital and my hands were destroyed by frequent handwashing (plus I'm a germaphobe). It got to the point I can barely move my hands due to the cuts. It was so painful and itchy. La Roche-posay cicaplast baume 5 saved my skin! I use it twice a day on my hands then I use their cicaplast hands every after handwashing. My skin feels soft and smooth now.

    This came at a perfect time bc I just started to notice my hands getting dry from all the washing. I'm guilty of using too much soap bc I enjoy the foaminess, but now I know better. thanks for the info, dr. dray!!

  • @4isahappyfamily
    @4isahappyfamily Před 4 lety +1

    Yes! Thank you for the explanation of friction to clean instead of too much soap! The same with brushing teeth -- too much toothpaste prevents from actually cleaning the teeth! And with laundry detergent -- too much laundry soap actually prevents the cleaning of the clothing, and only adds soap buildup into the clothing. And the fragrance in laundry detergent -- does not help get your clothes clean, only increases chances for sensitivities.

    I have always over washed my hands ,what I do that really helps is, before bed I use hand cream, lately I've been using o'Keefe's working hands ,because that's all I have now and I'm trying to use up all products before buying more, after I apply the hand cream I then apply vaseline, and then put cotton gloves (or cotton socks) on and sleep. It has kept my hands soft and healthy.

  • @JulienArbor

    Hi! I used to wash my hands a lot so it's easier for me! I had some Purel left over...which I use when I come back from the grocery store. But a few months ago I found a dishwashing detergent that is also an antibacterial hand soap. The brand is Dawn and here in Quebec there is some in every grocery store and pharmacy. I use it for my dishes and occasionally as a hand soap even if it has an orange scent. I have not had any irritation problems probably because I also use Cerave soap and Dove soap without fragrance. Usually I have trouble with fragrances but with Dawn I have no problem!

    W/all due respect, about wearing rings.....I will say there are probably people who have skin issues because of wearing rings....but, as for me, I am 72 years old & have worn an engagement ring & 2 wedding rings on the ring finger of my left hand & a ring on the middle finger of that hand since I was 21 years old. I have always worn a ring on ring finger of right hand. I have never had a skin issue because of my rings.
    About cuticles, I've always questioned pushing back cuticles. Never made sense to me....so it was nice to hear Dr. Dray say don't do that !
    I don't wear fingernail polish on my fingers. I do enjoy polish on my toenails during Summer...but not the rest of the year.
    Last night I slathered Eucerin that Dr. Dray recommends to makes backs of hands look better, then gloves.
    You look cute w/the fabric headbands, Dr. Dray. I enjoy wearing them, too.

    CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion has been working really well for me. Instant relief and I only need to use it once or twice a day, not after every wash. It's weird, if I use too much it irritates my skin, but if I use just a little it's so soothing. And it absorbs really well.
    I'd like to try CeraVe Healing Ointment, though. At least at night.

    I find it nearly impossible to find hand soap without fragrance. :-( I've switched to using liquid soap in a pump, ( 1 pump), as it's easier to use when washing so frequently. I keep tubes of hand cream all over the house now! Lol! I guess I'll need to pull out my tube of CeraVe Baby ointment to use instead. :) I have had chapped skin under my ring, it's quite uncomfortable and takes some time to heal. Since the stay at home order a month + ago, I seldom wear it to avoid the irritation. I like the idea of smearing on some ointment before dish washing, etc... I'll be trying that for sure!
    Hope your mom is doing well. :) Stay safe, stay healthy Dr. Dray. :-)

    Thank you for this info! Im a dental hygienist and in the month of may will be seeing at least 20 pts a day which will average me to at least 60 hand washes. I will try the vaseline and get a non scented antibacterial hand soap! You are awesome Dr D!

    My job is essentially to plunge my arms into bacteria-filled aquariums all day, which means I'm constantly disinfecting my hands, and the amphibians I work with are sensitive to a lot of the ingredients commonly found in skin care products. I haven't used a moisturizer in years, and my hands and arms are so itchy I want to cry! Gonna have to look up whether petrolatum is an option...

    Applying Petroleum Jelly to my feet and toes after my evening shower and then putting on cotton socks mostly contributed to toe nail infection that took heavy medication and a couple of years to clear out.

    Great video today Dr. Dray! I gulped coffee right as you said apply the grease then the coffee came back out why is my sipping timing always off? Movie trivia 🎥 they went through over 1,500 auditions to find Scarlett O’Hara Vivien Leigh for Gone With The Wind but it didn’t take long to find the dermatologist I will follow for skincare. Your the best! Happy Friday! ☕️👌🏻💜⭐️

      I have just decided not to wear rings, bracelets, or a watch during the time of this pandemic. I want to make certain I can cleanse my hands well. Used to just let my cell phone sit in an open pocket in my purse but now I zipper it inside of my purse and I don't dare answer it while out unless I'm answering from the car via Bluetooth. They'll just have to wait but I don't want to touch my face or contaminate anything.

    Hi dr dray, can u please do a video on how to reapply suncreen if u wear makeup? I really want to reapply suncreen but idk how to do it without ruining my makeup

    • @jt8142
      @jt8142 Před 4 lety +2

      Bb I: A great work around is to wear tinted mineral sunscreen instead of makeup. There’s really no way to re-apply sunscreen without impacting your makeup because if you do things to lessen that issue, you’re probably not getting proper protection from UV radiation and visible light. Personally, I now choose to prioritize sunscreen as I want to minimize photoaging and reduce my risk of skin cancer. 👏 😊
