Somewhere, far south, Simon sits on his porch, taking in the view of his village as he finishes his drink. His thoughts turn to Arn, and he wonders, "I wonder what he's up to on such a fine evening?".
This does a great job of combining two of humanity's pastimes: storytelling and gambling
Friendship ended with 16 HP Dragon, now Extreme Threat Dragon is my new best friend
_"Leave, Havensbane! Be gone and forgotten from elven lore, for dragonfire was but mere spring breeze when compared to thy aid."_
That notebook though (5:00). Awesome!
... and then you realize the entire episode was a battle against the dragon. Real goosebumps ❤️🔥
Loved the “Dragoncam” tm
Simply breathtaking. And I think the layers of tragedy add dramatic weight to Arne’s story. It will make his eventual reunion with the dragon all the more powerful, no matter what the outcome.
Trevor, your excitement and great storytelling really made this episode amazing. It was pretty tense and spectacular. Better than a movie!
Wow,amazing storytelling, and some precious strong hits when most needed. He's still alive, surprisingly.
Who needs Netflix? 👏👏👏👏
I think, Netflix is going to have to adopt this as a series: The Adventures of Arn Havensbane
@@raVenwomBat that's what I said about season one too 😁 "Simon"
This 3-episode arc of 7-9 is my favorite of all of your episodes, and some of the greatest RPG storytelling in podcasting/CZcams in my opinion.
And THAT is why I’m a patron. Brilliant.
Poor Arn. He just wanted to help. Didn't know he'd kick off a horrific massacre. Such great story telling! I love your bravery in where you let the story go too, not afraid to have the elves you just introduced become nearly extinct and turn against the main character already. Love it all, can't wait for more!
Arn is cursed by the Gods for running away his duties, now he must see Setlements getting destroyed and people losing their home. I am seeing at episode 21 or 22 everyone that Arn meets in his journey living together at the end. Maybe in a new settlement called "Dragonsgrave".
Nice ideas, Caio!
I'm watching through this whole series for the first time and honestly this has been an amazing episode! This is honestly just one of my favorite channels on CZcams.
I'd never heard of ironsworn let alone solo RPGs until starting this series. Now I'm binge watching it and playing my own game. You are incredibly radical 😎
I am an ex-English teacher, and my favorite lessons were always narrative description. This is by far some of the best storytelling I have heard in years. Yet another amazing episode, sir!
And here we were thinking Simon had the worst luck! Reminds me of “no money, no food, no hope, no friends!, what a guy” In season 1.
I’m left speechless yet again Trevor, INCREDIBLE. I felt tense throughout knowing Arn was hanging by a thread. Oh Arn, you’re absolutely mad, what will he do next, we’ll have to tune in next time to find out.
Mind blown. This just gets better! I can't stop watching them... it's like binge watching a TV series!!!
Arn is a hero! Most would have turned and ran but Arn stood his ground against a dragon. Stood his ground against a DRAGON!
“I think Thaugalos will DEFINITELY take the bait” rolls the dice... DEFINITE nope. Another great episode! Loved the excitement every time you rolled a strong hit.
It would make sense that the pillars repelled elves just to prevent the magical protection from being tampered with by mistake. It's like how people discuss ways to protect future generations from radioactive materials hundreds of years from now when symbols evolve and language changes. Unfortunately, the designers didn't account for Arn the wildcard.
HOLYY FUCK this is so dramatic and emotional and compelling!! And all of this happened because of a bad roll knocking a pillar over. I love how high energy your show is and how easy it is to get into (compared with things like Critical Role and their 3+ hour episodes.) I am absolutely inspired to start a game for my self.
That was the most epic and saddest story I watched in any Solo gameplay ever!❤😢🎉
It's like the dice knows what the best plot twists are. Don't fudge the dice rolls gms, let it play out.
This is absolutely amazing. As Keanu Reeves would said "You're breathtaking!"
Each monday I wait for the new episode cuz I know that next 30-45 minutes I will have great moments with stunning story.
The passion you put into your role as a GM, the cuts of the recording, terrain, miniatures, sound effects, background music is unbelievable. Great work.
Thank you.
I'm really worried now. You keep delivering one episode better than the previous...How long can this last? Forever, 'cause you're just so talented!!!
That's the great thing about Ironsworn: you never know what's going to happen in each session! Combine that with Trevor's fantastic improv skills and it's a match made in heaven.
The life of an innocent bystander .... is very short when Arne is around! Yet another fine episode, Sir.
All in all, Arne got lucky not rolling any misses on Endure Harm moves while having 0 Harm! Live to fight another day. Great storytelling, Trevor!
Omg, that battle! Challanging a dragon to a duel, what an absolute madlad... soon literally, as that spear gonna take a great toll on his sanity I think.
It seems that Simon is the typical heroic archetype while Arne is the tragic hero. I wonder if Edbert would be an anti-hero? Season 3 perhaps?
Oh Arn... you messed up so so bad...
What I hate the most about these last two episodes is that I'm the kind of guy willing to do the extra bit of help so that others will like me, exactly like Arn did when he wanted to break the pilar in episode 8 to be liked by the elves...
I don't think I could live with myself after messing up so bad!
That elven speech at the end almost brought tears 😢, poor Arn.
But Arn is honourbound, true to his word, I'm sure he will carry his quest until the end.
I highly admire him.
Well, that was intense! Y'know, Trevor, if you ever wanted to write a novel, I bet you could tell a helluva story.
I just wanted to say how much you've inspired and helped me develop my own system of solo rpgs. This is something that I've been craving for a long time and your videos are pure inspirational gold. I love your use of minis too. Thank you and I hope to see many more seasons!
Thanks Cris, that means a lot to me that my viewers are getting something out of this!
@@MeMyselfandDieRPG Thanks for your reply. I am not only getting a strong inspirational dose, but also a reason to chuckle when watching MM&D. The way in which you blend a mature fantasy storyline with a relaxed and fun GM attitude is both entertaining and soothing. I also appreciate that a lot of the minis and terrain you use have a mix'n'match feel and are relatively affordable - this brings a feeling of "ah, I wanna go get my minis out of the shelf and play some solo rpps". Cheers for bringing some pure geeky joy during those gloomy times.
I'm so sad for the elves 😭😭 perhaps Arn will have his revenge
I'm so happy such an awesome episode released on my birthday! Man, I really look forward to this show every week. Love this so much.
I was playing Fabled Lands last night (the physical book). I am a "save-scum" kinda guy when I play video game, abusing save states. So when I reach bad predicament in Fabled lands instead of living the consequence or restarting (in case of death) I tend to go back to my "save state" and pick another choice or reroll a failed contest. And for excuse I made my character have a time power where he can put a safe point whenever he want, one at a time (that is how petty I am)
Last night was the first time I choose to live the consequence of my action with a heavy heart and fear of the uncertainty (I mean, I was left with 1 stamina, and lost all money and possessions). I was forced to walk out of my first town to another in near-death state until I was lucky to stumble upon some weapons and a large sum of money left behind by a creature guarding a cave (I waited out until it left).
Seeing how you are willing to put Arne into such a catastrophe even though I believe you have an attachment to this character by this point is something very brave. I was preparing a one or two shots training sessions with Ironsworn feeling confident until I reached this episode. I don't know if I have the heart to put my characters into such danger but yeah, it is for narrative perspective so I need to brace myself. Thank you for the eye opening episode.
Incredible episode! That was a lot of Strong hits tonight! Was on the edge of my seat the whole time, this didn't seem like half an hour at all! I can't wait to get my physical copies of Ironsworn and start my own adventures. This channel has me hooked on Solo-TTRPGs and what's possible with a little creativity.
I'm speechless. This is A-MA-ZING! This is why rpg is the best game of all time! Can't stop watching your show Trevor, you're so talented!!!
That first fist pump on the secure advantage in the tree 🤣 bloody brilliant! Superbly done again Trevor!
Trevooorrr!! You never fail to excite and entertain!! Your energy and passion just makes this even more epic. Ready and waiting for the next installment. Keep up the good work man!!
Best part of Mondays 👍
Trying not to have a heart attack in the first 12 minutes. Good lord, man! Excellent work.
Just discovered your channel a couple of nights ago. Already through Ep 9. Top-tier storytelling, my friend!
You are a great storyteller. I had only wanted to view the first 5 minutes and ended watching the entire episode. Very well done.
I love how excited you got about all those string hits!
Holy shit that was epic. Best episode of the whole series so far.
This is the best solo play ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome episode Trevor! But I have to say that I side 100% with the elves against Arn. This is exactly why they've wanted nothing to do with humans. (I'm surprised they didn't just kill him.)
I totally agree. Why by all that is holy would he push over the pillar without first telling the elves what he discovered. Arn...you hapless twit!
I disagree because the elves did not warn ARN about any of the protections that were in place. They obviously did not have the same level of respect or care because they're blacksmith endangered himself messing around with places he should not have been at either. The elves were being extremely haughty and secretive and so their secrecy caused an issue that did not need to exist. If a are in knew about any of the things in place there then he would have taken more precautions. The elves are victims but they also cause their own downfall. You can be snooty and secretive all you want and insult people but whatever that backfires on you because of the ignorance born of your selfishness then I feel no sympathy for them.
Nice move with the blade-bound path.
The dice really facilitated such a classic elf story really well here.
I seem to say this every episode. But, what an episode!!
Let's hope Arn gets the job done (and doesn't roll anymore double 0s!!)
Just wow! I thought the episode with the two water gods was incredible. But this, this episode takes the cake!
Arn, the worst house guest ever.
I think you may just have a future in this storytelling business. 😂
best show on youtube, thanks for this incredible season
What is Simon and Edberts reaction when he tells them he leaped on a dragon's back 😂
Thalgalos: Think furnace, with wings! Flash of light, searing pain and then POOF! You're nothing more than a pile of arsh!
Oh aye, it's Thalgalos. He'll melt the flesh off your bones in the blink of an eye!
Best episode of the series so far. I don’t know how you can top this, but I’m sure something even better is coming. I love the excitement at every strong hit, but also how invested you are with the failures which have definitely caused some of the most interesting moments of this series.
North, huh? Arne better be careful. I hear there's giants and Elder Beasts in the Hinterlands.
i lost count on the number of goosebumps i got watching this one!
Thaugalos reminds me of Craig Robinson in Pineapple Express. He inflicts so much pain on people but when his turn comes he can't handle it.
Thanks for the epic adventure Trevor. Your energy and playstyle serves as great inspiration.
Holy shit, i was so enthralled by the battle with Thalgalos! It was going so well for him... until it wasn't. It was a bittersweet ending to the scene. Now Arn has a juggernaut of a nemesis.
This show makes me look forward to my commute to and from work everyday. Amazing series, amazing host and amazing episode. Thank you!!
Trevor! Dude this show is the best thing I have found on YT in a looooong time. Thank you for doing this and taking us on your adventures! Also, I was listening in my car on the way home from work, and when Arn got all of those strong hits towards the end I was literally yelling out loud "Let's GOOOOOOOO!!!" HAHA! I was so hype right there with you! Looking forward to jumping into my next Ironsworn session this week for the holidays. You're awesome! More like #HavensBae
The best show on CZcams just keeps getting better. Now I can't wait to go home and play Ironsworn again.
So ready for the Punished Arne arc
HOLY MOLLY THAT WAS AN INSANE AND INTENSE EPISODE!
Amazing episode. Perilous adventure. Thrilling escapades. And my favourite Trevor quote of all time ...
"Thalgalos this time ... OH', HE'S PISSSSSED"
Legitimately thought it was curtains for Arne in this encounter. Talk about a crazy mid-season episode!
I'm breathless and wordless. Touching and epic, so human yet with a touch of the sacred. There's power in the vow.
Despite the slight inconvenience to the elves, at least Arn had good intentions at the iron circle (after all, he was trying to do them a favor). I wonder if you ever thought that when he was wounded in the leg in season 1, that his wound would lead to a slight twisting at just the wrong moment, to bring down the iron pillar onto the iron circle altar, shattering it into three pieces, destroying the magical protection against the dragon, leading to an incinerated elven village (beautifully carved, I might add,...it took what, what, centuries (?) to get those amazing branch bridges to grow just right), leading to the death of all but a handful of elves and the exiling of Arn from elf culture and gaining him a new 'nickname"...'Havenbane.') . Well, at least Arn still has the Elven Forge-master's hammer (which is now un-cursed, or mostly so)! Maybe it will com e in handy when he tries to put Ulvatan back together, so he can give the dragon the shaft (and the spear head).
Sometimes tragedy makes for more compelling episodes. Maybe his friend Simon can join him. Send a raven!
Dear CZcams, please add more like buttons so I can PRESS THEM ALL ❤️
Arne Heavensbane, wow, that was awesome. What can one say about these episodes? It shows the best that rpgs can be - we are all just listen to Trevor's words but in my head, I can nearly feel the heat of the dragons breath... Chapeau!
I can only echo Cris F - the emotional intensity you bring to these videos is amazing Trevor, and you have really inspired me to get my own solo RPG sessions going again. MM&D is such an excellent series on CZcams, I can't wait to see where Arn's journey takes him next. Enjoy your hiatus but don't stay away too long please!
Well, our consolation prize is that Arn is going mad, and that Thagalos lives another day. If it wasn't apparent before, it should be by now that Arne was banished from the Iron Lands. The guy is a kid running with scissors through the kitchen just after mom mopped the floor. How many more epithets can Arne earn? At the end of this, I'd like to see merch with all of his epithets: Arne Kalipunki...the Bond Breaker...the Bane of Haven...flea of Thagalos...the Iron tack in my flip flops...etc. Also, I'm all for a coffee mug with the old "Simon Sucks" logo modified with Simon's name struck through and Arne's written above it! @Flash Rollerball, thanks for the inspiration!!!
I’ve been watching season 2 (to understand what Ironsworn is like), by god this is 1 million times better than Critical Role. DND actual play is far too long to watch to get invested and the energy Trevor has is infectious. I could easily watch these all day……………..more please…………like way more.
Another wonderful, yet tragic episode. You are one of the best storytellers I've ever seen. Outstanding!
Wow, just wow...
I knew from the second you described the beautiful village it would be destroyed. Ah! Poor guy : (
Wow, another great episode. The story gets better and better. Nicely edited video, nice sound effects and music.
How long before we can get some “ARN SUCKS” merch?
The BEST episode I have ever seen (this and the other series).... simply fantastic.. OMG what will come next. Love it love it love it.
It was really riscky, heroic or crazy to fight the dragon by himself, but it felt EPIC! Now Arn must lick his wounds and find a band of allies that help him hunt Thaugalos.
Heartbreaking. Here the elves dare to trust an Ironlander for once and this is what they get. How is this not a live action network show?
Goosebumps this entire 30min.
Great storytelling, with epic drama, well done!
This. Episode. Was.
EPIC!
I loved how you molded the mechanisms around your story like rolling to see if Arn could even get close enough before rolling to strike. You certainly didn't make things easy for yourself! Another great episode!
20:06 Thaugolos lands & an epic face-off.
This episode was AMAZING... Blood boiling
So good. +1 Awesome Point
Made me think of Dragonlance, with the dragonfear. Another great episode.
Amazing how much Arne can do with a bum leg ;) LOL great stuff, Trevor!
It's always factored in. And thanks!
Ah! That was intense!
Great terrain, love those smoke markers!
I ALMOST did not watch this episode just because it was so painful.
I forgot it was today. Yay!
Thanks you very much. This show is amazing thanks to your talent.
That was intense man! 😂👏🏻
