Here is a short demo of the classical sequence of Joseph Pilates. I have tried to stay close to his desired execution of each move. All quotes are by Joseph Pilates. Enjoy!
Thank you for this. I used to go to Power Pilates in nyc. Best workout of my life. Did it decades. Still do a lot of the exercises but This is exactly what I was looking for. ❤
The execution and precision were amazing!! Joseph said to master the intricacies of the movements before moving forward, and I can tell you spent a lot of time doing just that. This was a great exhibition. Excellent job!
This was great. Have shared to my mom n sis. Played it back .5 speed and followed along. It's been..... 15 years or so since I had a regular classical mat practice. I teach hot yoga... I do not buy into the hot pilates/inferno vibe. Pilates is as it should be shown here IMO. Controlled, smooth, calm, room temp, and focus on the above. Not cardio max pump up burn sweat jump around tunes blasting disco light. Barf. Thank you. Will delve more into your channel for straight up no nonsense healing powerful pilates.
This video made me even more motivated to keep practicing! I came to find that the best exercises are the ones you do by yourself, without machines or equipaments.
At last - the Pilates that I used to do. I wasn't a Pilates person per se - but a cyclist who wanted to up my core strength. My cyclist friends all quit, but I kept at it for the next 8 years. After I retired and moved to the Southwest, it seems to hard to find this kind of Pilates.
Did you build your strength by only doing Pilates or with weights and extra resistance training too? I get frustrated that I don’t have the strength for body weight exercises, such as a proper full push up and have tried all variations but my body simply does not get stronger. I would love to have the control you do. The way you move your body looks so elegant and I imagine feels amazing for your joints and muscles.
Hi! I have only done Pilates, Yoga, and dance for about the last 10-12 years as my main forms of exercise. Personally, I noticed the strength in my upper body was greatly improved with Yoga and Pilates over weight training. I had done weight training for a few years before that. I also was a gymnast until the age of 12 and I believe I carried a lot of that upper body strength with me into adulthood. Thanks for your comments and question :)
Thanks a lot. Can I ask: if I want to try to learn just as he advised, starting from the beginning and learning each one very well before moving on : what should each session look like? Say after a while I am on number 5, should my practice session always involve the first four in sequence before working on the new one? Thanks for any info on that!
Hi! It would be fine to focus on one move for that day but just make sure to properly warm up before you dive in. I actually warm up before I start his sequence.
