FYI, we saw this movie and recorded the review long before it was announced Hulu would be streaming a version with the characters speaking Comanche.
(IKR!! as soon as my husband and I found that out (recorded in true langauge) we stopped shiting on it and moved our rating from 3.25 to 4.5 (out of 5). We even watched about half of it a second time in native tounge -- it was dope to see. )

The director addressed why the characters are speaking “English” the characters are actually speaking Comanche to each other but to us (the audience) it’s in English so we can understand, there’s also another version of the film where the characters actually speak Comanche throughout.

Edit: I really enjoy how UNhungry you both are for the camera. When one is speaking, the other let's them speak and does not interrupt with some side hustle, but when appropriate will interject without breaking up the others' train of thought. Yall are just funny.

my theory is that the predator was also a youngster trying to prove itself!! it & Naru were mirrored in quite a few scenes to show their similarities. that was a cool concept.

I’m biased because I know one of the stars of this film, but learning Comanche is no easy feat and there’s only about 200 elders who still speak it (though younger folks are reviving the language). That may have contributed to learning it in addition to the challenges of filming.
I totally agree that the movie should be in Comanche, but I do think it's cool that the filmmakers brought the cast back and made a Comanche dub of the movie that will be available on Hulu. So you can watch it in Comanche when it finally drops Friday.

Actually it's not dubbed in Comanche. The scenes were shot in English and then again in Comanche. If you watch the Comanche version you will notice some differences because of that.

I'm a big animal lover and hate them getting hurt or killed in movies, and quite a few die in this but they're all cgi and not focused on for long, so it didn't bother me at all.
@@justaguy7230 I actually watched the movie because of Nick and Joseph and really enjoyed it, but cgi animals getting hurt or dying still stresses me out. Can't help it. 😄

I believe we can hear them speak English amongst themselves for the movie to translate. Because when the French men catch the girl one of them says how he speaks many languages specifically her tongue.

It's okay if the viewers aren't supposed to find something out too early and they don't want to invent something new, but appart from then, I want to know what people are saying! Either with subs, or someone needs to fill me in (character from the movie). 🙄

They were not speaking English, that was for us to understand, the French character was speaking comanche with her cause he knew more language’s, that was just for us to understand
Movie was recorder with commanche as well. Just easier for the rest of us who don't speak it which is absolutely the majority. But it can be watched in full commanche.

I was so excited you guys reviewed this. I've been a big fan of the Predator Movies (not all of them of course) and the trailer got me really excited for something familiar but a new take. Glad to hear you overall enjoyed it! Also Alien Vs. Predator is not sacrilege! AVP2 was a dumpster fire though.
I admit they are not all “GREAT”, but I can watch all of the predator movies over and over. That includes the A v P movies. I look forward to this one as well.

There's a Comanche version releasing with the English version
I saw that pistol straight away that was the same one that was given to Danny Glover in Predator 2
I understood your point about the use of the English language, as many other commenters have pointed out it was a practical reason. I would have like this to have been more evident and a transition into English like in “the hunt for red October.”
They speak English because they’re being translated for us (an American audience) so we can see it from their point of view. I think it’s implied they’re actually speak Comanche.
NB: They shot two versions of this film: one on in English, and the other in the native people’s language, which you can select when it streams on Hulu

I think the physique of the Predator just implies it’s a juvenile. The one in Predator 2 was also supposed to be a younger version. Like humans, I’m sure they have different body types, of course all of them still being buff! 😂
Dane Robert DiLiegro who plays the Predator, is an ex b-ball player, and he’s 6’9”. So in the Predator suit, I’m sure he’s 7 foot tall or more.

I think there is a Commanche dub for this movie, done by the cast, but I haven't tried it out yet. I enjoyed this movie, and the pistol at the end was a nice call back to Predator 2s ending, and I always liked that movie as well. This is probably my new favorite Predator after the original, followed by 2.

Glad y'all loved this movie too! I was blown away. One question out of curiosity - what makes it not seem like a prequel? What I got from it is that it is definitely in continuity with the other movies, but is a bit loose in that it is self-contained. Hope the other sci-fi horror franchises take note of this approach!
Prequel made me think we would understand the origins of the Predator and/or how it came to visit Earth.

It is a prequel takes place 260 years before part one and the flintlock pistol in the film is the same one from Predator 2 which says 1715 on it.

I watched this movie first normally, knowing full well there was a Comanche dubbed (English subtitles). For me personally, dividing my attention between subtitles and what’s happening on the screen is distracting. I did watch it a second time a couple days later with the subtitles. I’m so glad that the option is there for people that would enjoy it.

It’s been a while since I thought of a secret movie recommendation but I remembered this the other day; “Bandits”, Billy Bob Thornton, Bruce Willis, Cate Blanchett. It’s been a long time but I remember very good performances along with plenty of laughs. Look into it, might pique your interest.

It’s a prequel because the gun at the end was the gun found on the predators ship in predator 2.
I was wondering if everyone noticed the movie is in Comanche, so many do, that's wonderful. Also, Joseph said that the predator body was different "West Hollywood)... Yep, the Yautja come in many different body types depending on their DNA modifications. this actor has been in other movies and he has a stellar body! Also again...the face mask was different, yep! Armour can change with kills and rank. Loved this movie.. especially the pistol at the end, just about jumped off my sofa!
Its good that the production also had the intent to record dialogue in english and commache. Just for that the movie gets A for making the effort
This was good - 4/5 from me! This director is impressive with this movie and 10 Cloverfield Lane; I'm looking forward to seeing his future work!

There's a Comanche dub. And the Spanish translator with the French trappers wasn't speaking English to her. He was speaking comanche. We just hear it as english.

Longtime Pred fan here. Avp and AvpR by no means were sacrilegious. They had a lot of flaws but I still enjoy them, personally. Wolf is as of now my favorite on screen predator
Prometheus, alien covenant, and Predator 2018 were all, I’d consider, way more sacrilegious.

I watched the trailer before this review, and I knew right away I wouldn't be able to watch it, even though it looks so good. The trailer showed a scene with a bear, and knew it would be too much for me. So thank you!!!
Never underestimate the power of the human brain, no matter what civilization (or tribe) it is from.
So they tried to explain it in the movie when the French guy start talking to them he says “you speak Comanche yes? I speak a lot of languages” he says it French but we are supposed to interpret he is speaking Comanche when he says that so whenever we hear English they’re really talking in Comanche but to save most people the trouble of reading subtitles through a very visually focused movie they just made it English and I’m a cahuila Native American I live in Southern California and absolutely love the fact they made my people the main protagonists really just makes me happy to see, but there’s also a full Comanche version on Hulu where they speak everything in Comanche so yea you can give this movie a 5/5

This movie is a prequel, the gun from the end of this movie is the same gun in the second predator movie.
Talk about "ancient!" That writer for NK (podcast#66 movie review) was born 1912?! Yet, or because of it, he wrote of a woman who, (imo), in order to survive, had to reinvent herself? It takes a male officer (and a gentleman) to readjust her empathy/nurturing 'womanly side' to restore her senses. Nice fun choice! Same perhaps when both of you do PREY review :D
Too the channel owners. They are speaking commanche but we are hearing it in english.that is why their English is so good. the director explained this.plus there is a native language version

1) Of course this movie is a prequal. Even the gun at the end of the movie shows up at the end of predator 2 which means Predators come back and kill her tribe. 2) The guy speaking to her says he speaks Comannche. Its only in english so we can understand it. They are supposed to be speaking their own language. They do this in a lot of movies., the 13th warrior for example.
When she is treating everyone for medical reasons, she is just giving them opiates to shut them up lol
It’s supposed to be that they are speaking in their native tongue, but coming out in English. Her talking to her dog in Comanche just made that very confusing.

The Camanches are meant to be speaking in their native tongue. It's like it is being instantly translated for us, the audience. This has been done in many other movies before. This is reiterated by the Frenchman who spoke thier language which is Comanche. I understood Thus from the very beginning.

I had the same issue with the show Chernobyl. Everyone had a proper British dialect in Russia. The producers/director thought it would have been somewhat comical to have every actor speak with a Russian dialect.
