- For the second straight year the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers are matched up in the playoffs. Last year they face off in the conference finals with Denver sweeping the Lakers in four. The Nuggets also won all three regular season games this year so things work looking great for the Lakers going into this matchup. That continued on Saturday night as the Nuggets defeated the Lakers 114-102 which now makes it 9 straight for the Nuggets over the Lakers. Today we talk about why the Los Angeles Lakers cannot beat the Denver Nuggets.

(tbh, I became an LA fan since my dad only ever roots for lebron since he knows him the best; i was only able to afford nba pass since 4 years ago, letting him get slowly updated with the roster. he watches LA games almost exclusively and I just want him to see as much playoff action as he can as my dad is already quite old. Watching D.Lo go to the lakers was huge for me since i was a fan of him. I just hope that he can turn it around and cook, prove that dlo can shoot in playoff scenarios and end the rumors. Anyway, that's my reason for rooting for the lakers)

Genuinely a series like this is why I love NBA basketball, it’s because this is a competitive series on both ends, Lebron and his fans are desperate to see him win a ring while The Nuggets are vocally so done with the media and his fan base constantly disrespecting them. There is such an obvious hatred the Nuggets play with that I love.
And there's something beautiful in Nuggets beating them every time regardless of the 6th man being the refs

Seems like the side effects of Balco is you can't play any defense, at all. And you disappear completely from the 4th quarter and turn the ball over 7 times. Yeah, the other pieces didn't step up, but they were still in the game until the 4th quarter. AD was carrying all alone in the 4th. You see Jokic take absolute control in 4th quarter where it matters the most.
But at the end of the day, Jokic and the Nuggets just play great, free flowing and selfless team basketball. It's really difficult to defeat on a team that never has enough time to build chemistry, and swaps out half their roster ever mid and off season. lol

Honestly the Nuggets are more likely to beat them going into this year than last year. At least last year you could argue the Nuggets hadn't proven it yet and the Lakers were on a run to the conference finals. Betting line for that series was actually pretty close.
This year, they've shown they can still beat them and they're even better than last year.

The lakers didn’t play them bad, but just don’t have enough talent to keep up. Denver offensively have players that show more confidence in their ability to play than the Lakers. You could tell Reaves and DLow showed no confidence to take over a possession and resort to the ole just give it to Lebron. This series is best matched for Dimwiddie and Vincent to maybe start based on defensive ability.
Remove Lebron, AD, Jokic and Murray. The Nuggets will still dominate the Lakers.

This isn't true. lol The Laker have PLENTY of talent. But unlike the Nuggets, they replace their roster every mid and off season. So there is never any time to build actual chemistry. The Nuggets have such great chemistry together which allows them to not be worried in crunch time moments, because they will always make the best play possible. Selfless, team basketball in today's NBA will always have the advantage over a team like the Lakers, as the last couple years have proven.

And yes - the Commissioner's (both the former and the current) obsession with larger franchises is strange. Other than The Knicks and The Celtics - the smaller/not as famous franchises are taking over: OKC, The Timberwolves, The Nuggets etc are dominating this season. We should celebrate the passing of The Torch.
@@M-Cherian It's just a blip, unfortunately. This will likely be the only time in their history that the Nuggets are ever this good. Small markets don't attract talent as consistently as the bigger markets do. They usually have to luck into a great roster and try and keep it.

From what I've seen, it's not mainly about talent between these teams. It's about execution on both ends. The Nuggets just execute better, especially in crunch time. Their offense is diverse and creative; the Lakers are predictable. The Nuggets have a number of viable defenders on top of playing good team defense. The Lakers don't have as many defensive options, and they've taken a step back from the defensive team they were last year.
Maybe if the refs continue to give them 700 FT while Nuggets get non.
Regardless of the final outcome, Lakers will shoot at least 100 more FTs than the Nuggets.
I can't comprehend being a Lakers fan and rooting for that. I don't understand how the other team makes shot after tough shot shaking off numerous no-calls, and Lakers fans just camp out and wait for bail out whistles on minimal contact. How can that be entertaining?

Denver has a lot of matchup advantages against LA. AD has been inconsistent, but that's kinda been his thing. LeBron can only turn it to 11 for short periods, anymore...he looks old against AG, a big-body who can match his physicality.

Their team in 2020 was accidentally the optimal roster to deal with Jokic. They had a stable of bigs to guard him and give him different looks which allowed AD to do his thing elsewhere. (McGee was long, Dwight Howard was physical and AD was quick, all that kept Jokic busy and put him into foul trouble. This current LA team with just AD can't pull that off. Oh well, *as long as Boston doesn't win* I couldn't care less. Hell, maybe Denver can repeat.

Mfs forget they’re at high elevation. This is why after they won last year, I knew they had a chance at building something special. Going to Denver and playing a full 48 against this roster is incredibly tough.
For real. I feel like the elevation factor gets badly undersold far too often and always seems to be mentioned more as an afterthought. It's not a minor thing.
Speaking from personal experiences, if you haven't put in the necessary time to adequately acclimate your body to such a dramatic altitude change, it can quickly end up feeling like you're trying to catch your breath through a straw. You get tired much faster and take even more time to recover your breath. At a certain point, it can become a living nightmare to push through, both physically AND mentally.
High elevation? There is only ONE championship banner at ball arena and they got that last year. Please stop with the excuses.

Diangelo Russell is selling again as the third option. I knew it would come down to whether he was able to keep dropping 25+ like he was at the end of the regular season, but Dlo always plays like shit against Denver. Lebron and AD are doing enough to win, but the rest of the guys are underperforming, especially Austin Reaves missing open shots.
