    Howdy Folks! Thanks for stopping by! I can't believe I never played the Red Alert series as a kid. I have loved RTS games ever since Starcraft, and I was so happy to find a game that encompassed so many aspects of a great time. From it's cutscenes to the music, I couldn't get enough of Red Alert 2. I hope you join me in the journey of remembering why this is a classic game, and its subsequent obfuscation. Hope this finds you well.
    All the best,

    I know that SC EoE and other great games existed before that but they seemed kind of intimidating to get into - until RA2 came along and opened that door.

    C&C Fanboy reporting for duty!
    Arlighty so You were mostly on point with the lore but there's more to it
    Before I continue C&C Lore 101, The games are divided into three continuities
    1) The Tiberium Saga, AKA "Command and conquer", The Mainline and the one about Tiberium, Kane, and GDI Vs Brotherhood of NOD, it technically has a loose connection with RA (Kane appears in RA1 soviets and Yuri was going to be a NOD agent in the OG C&C 3). I know this is a RA2 video but in my honest opinion the real best game in the series is C&C 3, RA2 does have arguably the best campaign though and I played a stupid amount of RA3 LAN in college.
    2) Red Alert Series: You covered the start of it though the idea was because Stalin had no competition in Europe (WW2 really kicked into high gear when Hitler broke the Molotov Ribbentrop pact and turned on the Soviets, No Hitler? Well now its just everyone vs Stalin! A lot of the wacky tech was based off of cold war conspiracies such as MK Ultra (and Soviet's actual impressive HUMINT) is the inspiration for Mind control tech, The Philadelphia Experiment for the chronosphere, Weather control devices, and so on).
    3) Generals: Has nothing to do with the rest of the storyline and was originally going to be its own thing, basically a "Ripped from 2003 headlines" RTS but it was changed to a C&C title later on. Probably the most grounded of the three but still has its wild stuff. The U.S vs China (kind of) vs The "Not Taliban" GLA (Generals 2 was going to replace the U.S with the EU as the U.S was thoroughly wrecked in the expansion and the EU rose in the power vacuum and the war was going to be GLA vs China vs E.U)
    Generally in the mainlines having the Allies/GDI/U.S winning and the rest giving a counterstrike in the Expansion (The exception being C&C 3 and Kane's wrath because all three campaigns happen alongside each other and technically 4...which doesn't exist) oftentimes setting up for the sequel.
    Now for Red alert 2. The setup is after the allies won The Second Great war and Stalin's defeat (Red Alert 1) which was basically WW2 but worse and concentrated in Europe, The U.S taking advantage of the situation (They didnt get involved in the first game until later in the expansions) More or less kept Russia as a Puppet State with the Romanovs being put back into power. The Russians began to resent this and basically undermined and built up several second and third world nations as the "World Socialist Alliance" and quietly built up a massive army. A combination of that, and Yuri inventing Mind control to frustrate allied intelligence (and having them happily pass along state secrets) allowed Russia to effectively set up an invasion of the U.S which is where everything begins! The allies struggle to keep it together as they are all fighting in their own back yards and the Soviets have their own internal political struggles and now you got Red Alert 2!

    • @Arcterran
      @Arcterran Před 2 měsíci +3

       @Dog.Dad.Studios No problem though sleeping on it I did a little disservice to the Mainline C&C that I'll try and rectify here
      First off Mainline C&C Cannonically is not connected to Red Alert (The Kane stuff was in the soviet campaign in RA 1, hence non-canon and Yuri never went back in time as a NOD agent since we got a different C&C 3) but the overall plot is basically in 1995 a Meteor storm ravages earth and spreads a resource called TIberium (named so because the first samples were taken from the Tiber river in Italy). Its a glowing green substance that in its raw form is highly toxic and seeps out nutrients from the soil and grows like a plant, basically killing everything in the general area. HOWEVER when refined its basically safe and a wonder substance, solving the energy crisis and can be refined into pretty much whatever material you need very cheaply. This obviously makes it VERY valuable despite its ecological dangers.
      As for the two factions the first is the Global Defense Initiative or GDI, basically the G7 Nations formed this group as an international special forces/peacekeeping group to 1) Contain the Spread of tiberium and 2) Deal with Terrorist threats, specifically....The Brotherhood of NOD who controls a vast amount of the Tiberium supply
      Later on they become the De-facto world government due to all the nations collapsing due to the failure to contain Tiberium properly
      Then there's the Brotherhood of NOD, A quasi-religious cult who sees Tiberium as a sacred and they key to Humanity's ascension. Led by Kane (Played by Westwood's then Sound guy Joe Kucan, which by the way most Live action and Voice actors are actually developers, though that begins to change as they hire Hollywood talent as time goes on and the series got more successful, which explains the quality of the Acting, Joe Stuck around as Kane though) the Charismatic and seemingly immortal Leader of the Brotherhood of NOD who may be an alien or the literal Biblical Cain, we don't know and that's awesome that we don't. They thrive in third world countries, rallying rebel groups and millitias to oppose the GDI.
      (The Scrin Come later in C&C 3, and they are basically the Aliens responsible for the Meteors, Also Japan in Red Alert is a thing for Red Alert 3 after the soviets invent a time machine and shake Albert Einstein's hand because in the Red Alert Universe he's the reason why nukes....and the Allies technological superiority is a thing...which means Imperial Japan is still a thing and they kind of become a superpower that's half World War 2 Imperial Japan and half Macross Anime, with George Takei as the Emperor)

For some reason its my favorite game in the franchise even though my favorite units in the Red Alert subseries are from the third game, and that's usually a huge factor. in determining what game in a strategy game series is my favorite.
