Back in the windows 7 days (2014-15 to be exact), I used to use a custom windows boot logo. There were so many community made boot animations I could find on deviantart (I know, the site has a dark side). All I needed to do was download a boot logo changer program, pick the animation I downloaded, and bam, it worked, I could also change the text underneath it too. It was very easy to customize stuff on windows 7 (and was also very easy to break it). This was done on a pre UEFI motherboard.
It feels like windows 7 had more UI customizability than windows 10.

heck back in win95-98 days you could customize the start button and images of your warning windows and such. my boot up and shut down screens were star trek. and all my sounds were too. it had the federation symbol on the start button instead of the windows logo. and said "LCARS" instead of start. really wish we coudl still do that stuff by default

Customizing themes would be a great subject. Microsoft doesn't have many themes and tweaking their colors can be a frustrating experience. And as a lot of apps are based off them, a way to modify the system theme would be great (an example would be Explorer - it's pretty bland by default)

As a windows / Linux user, I've always wanted to customize my windows pc because it's somewhat boring when it's OEM, hence the reason I also use Linux. Unfortunately some of my production softwares don't natively work on Linux, hence still sticking with windows for now, but the gap is shrinking as time goes by, so for now, customizing windows would be a great series 😋
I'm also glad to see someone else rocking a live Linux USB, as that's exactly what I used to rescue a fellow colleague's windows 7 pc a few years back 😅
Linux is fun, and you can mess up your pc quite quickly, but once you've made that mistake, you won't do it again, and to be honest, I've learned a lot through trial and error by messing up a lot on my personal pcs. Still prefer Linux tho, and you can easily repair your systems without having to pay a guru to do it, although it does mean you'll have to do research and jump through loops, but at least you're not locked out of the system files to do exactly that 😉

The only issue is that any time you update the BIOS, you have to re add the picture as it will reset the bios.. Kind of a ain in the ass... But a cool tool.... so much easier and "safer" than to download some unknowm 3rd party tool.

For those afraid of doing this given the "wholly unnecessarily complicated way of undoing it", you don't, that's just if you've messed up and can't start the pc anymore. If you just want to reset stuff back to normal, just run the program again, it'll have the option to reset everything back to normal.

I came for changing a logo and ended up having to install some Linux crap... Best tutorial ever. Please stop whatever you are doing, thanks.
