- It looks like Windows 11 is losing market share. What's funny is that its losing to Windows 10. How is Microsoft going to end support for Windows 10 next year when its still there most popular operating system? What will it take for people to switch to Windows 11? This looks like trouble for Microsoft.

When they advertise something "for your convenience"... it's usually for theirs, not yours.
Like a convenience fee.
I saw a sign at a bank once: "In order to serve you better we are changing our operating hours"
They decided to close at 3, instead of 5 to serve people better.
Exactly, the same as the two worst words and downfall for any product... "new and improved"... usually means the exact opposite.
Sometimes a downgrade is actually an upgrade.

and we have happy office lady. but it should not be this hard to get in or out of the old windows
ever since windows 8 we lost ability to roll back intarface to older version , you could use windows 95 in program mannager shell, xp up to 7 with clasic win 9x style windows and task bar last 10 years microsoft was fightig the consumers gving and taking stuff in product we paid for
With Microsoft it´s ever second released OS lately. Win 98 = ok, Win ME = worst ever. Windows XP = ok, Windows Vista = really bad. Win 7 = GREAT, Win 8 = even worst than worst ever, no customer wanted this. Win 10 = not ok, but better than the disaster Win 8. Win 11 = not what the customers wants at all.

I upgraded to Windows 11 six months ago. I’m going back to windows 10. When 10 is no longer supported, I am going to Linux. They are pushing Copilot, pushing ads, blocking removal of apps, recording my actions without consent to develop AI. They should be paying us to use Windows at this point.
Update: you cannot downgrade to Windows 10 after 10 days, you must do a fresh install. One more hurdle. I bought a 500gb SSD and installed Linux, Nobara, a distro of Fedora. I didn’t even have to touch a terminal window to get Steam running and “windows only” games playing. Good bye Microsoft!
That is all bull crap
@@JustMyFish I settled on Ubuntu and installed the KDE desktop. So many options if you want them. It’s great just out of the box also. Running all my steam games so far. Switched to Brave browser also on all my computers including at work. Goodbye Microsoft and Google. I will keep windows on a separate drive but will boot to when absolutely necessary.
Start transitioning to Linux now. The sooner you start the less disruptive experience you have when the push comes to shove.
The good news is that the once commercial-only Extended Security Updates package is going to be offered to consumers for the first time so people have the option of paying to keep their Windows 10 PCs secure as late as 2028.
To me, Windows 11 was a backward step and should have been called Windows 9. With the latest shenanigans (and Recall on Copilot+ PCs) Microsoft seems to have totally lost the plot.
They're improving nothing I'm using windows 10 for (that couldn't be fixed in w10), while removing the one thing I'm required to use Windows for (my vr headsets).
Plus, I've installed w3.11, w95, w98, XP probably 100 times without exaggeration. I'm an expert at that shit, just don't want to have to do it anymore.
Now it's: google this, work around that, sign in to the next thing, lose feature, get used to bullshit, get useless features down my throat
I disagree, I been using Windows since XP, and I find Windows 11 more sleek and cleaner in design then previous Windows. A better OS for gaming and productivity.
Overall backend functionality is still the same, but is to be expected for compatibility reasons.
Nostalgic poisoning is clouding your judgement, I had the same issue with Windows 7 and 10.

No, they changed the plot to Google Lite, working to steal as much of our information as possible to sell it to the data brokers . The GUI in Windows 11 feels unfinished. At first, I thought Microsoft had simply rushed it out and they would fix it in the next revision. I quickly realized that it was an actual choice. Unbelievable.
More ads, being forced to combine taskbar items, and not being allowed to show all system tray icons, were what killed Windows 11 for me. Windows 10 when I need Windows, otherwise Linux.

To be sincere, unless you have some very specific PAID software that uses older versions of Net Framework to be activated (Making it impossible to activate them on Linux), Linux nowadays (Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, etc), are incredibly easy to use. With the exception of Power Users of the system, that still keep making tutorials on how to use everything on a command prompt using sudo commands, the entire system works like Windows, but even better because it's possible to do anything you want with it, you can install themes that changes the entire system, you can have a system that looks like Windows 7 or any other windows and do it your way, and it's fast, very well made and receives updates constantly.
And thanks to Steam efforts to make Steam Deck a thing, 95% of the Steam Library runs on Linux by using their own emulator on the system, so you have no need to do anything but update your drivers if needed.
The sole reason I'm on Windows is LITERALLY the lack of ways of activating Scrivener there right now, and I'll keep trying on my laptop until I can do it. Once I do, I'll leave windows 11 on my PC too.

For more advanced settings, you need to use PowerShell, and the commands there are tedious to memorize all of them and type them out as they can be long and very specific. The whole purpose of Microsoft Windows is to have a UI. It was designed specifically for the UI as an improvement over command line DOS and MS-DOS. Honestly... when support for W10 end, I'll just switch to Ubuntu.
Games are running pretty well on it, and most Windows apps run fine with Wine.
I'm quite tired of MS bullshit...
Last time I played around with Windows gaming in Linux it works great for that one gaming session. My issue that I had with it is when I went back to try to play a game a week or two later it was broken again and I would have to spend most of my time trying to figure out how to make it run. It got so aggravating that I quit playing with it.
@@CyberCPU When was this? Steam, because of the SteamDeck, which is linux, have poured tons of support for it.
I haven't played much on linux either, since my gaming PC is windows. But have played Hollow Knight on my Ubuntu laptop with no problems. I don't know if it's because it has official support or because of steam compatibility layer.
@@CyberCPU you were probably running your games out of a NTFS drive, weren't you? yep, that happens. When you go linux, it's better to commit to a ext4 partition. most of these issues just go away completely. So what causes most problems is the lack of commitment to the change. i went through that too. then i decided to format one of my 2tb ssds to ext4 for linux and all the stuff that wasn't playing nice with ntfs (some stuff work fine on ntfs drives) and leave the rest as they were for now. with time i'll change everything to ext4 and any ntfs drive will be the exception.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. I work in IT, (Mostly for McD's, & other restaurant/FF chains) but I also build/repair stock & custom PC's. In the last month alone I've put Win 10 on 6 PC's. The district manager for the McD's in our area (42 stores, 3 in our city alone) has stated they will move to Linux before ever upgrading to win 11. Micro$oft's word is so dis-ingenuous now. I'm fed up with this shit!
Linux Mint has everything covered.
Except gaming it's still not perfect but 11 lost me to mint.
nah, mint still has some of the same bs issues that linux in general tends to have. what should be a seamless experience that just works, often doesn't. this coming from a guy who ran centos servers for years, has a pfsense box, and still loves linux for anything server related. the end user desktop experience is just crappy unless all you're doing is productivity work and coding. the minute you want to do enthusiast stuff like gaming, making game mods, etc there's always some stupid issue that pops up. For example, I recently installed linux mint, went great. I used the automatic update tool, and it failed six downloads. Those failed packages ended up breaking the entire operating system to the point that even the firefox browser built in wouldn't launch anymore. No matter what, even changing repositories, those packages could not be downloaded and the OS was broken. I figure okay sure why not just go into Windows since I set it up with grub for dual boot. Nope, because for some reason, grub won't detect my keyboard which googling that is apparently a known issue. Switch out to multiple keyboards and same thing, impossible to select operating systems and it defaults to the broken mint OS. End up having to use recovery media for windows, go into the troubleshooting command prompt, and rebuild the MBR, use EaseUS to wipe the linux partition and merge it back in. This is stuff that the end user should never have to encounter. Microsoft is indeed crappy, but they got rid of these sort of out of the box issues back with windows 98.
For normal people, windows 10 will run just fine even after support is finished, you can use it to play video games, and some apps.
Other than that, linuxmint works quite good. can dual boot with it for everything else.

You should probably try as best as you can to get the customers to switch to Linux Mint or something similar. It could prevent a lot of e-waste and those that need only an office suite and browse the internet could easily make the switch.

@@CyberCluNot to be a pedant, but note that KDE is a desktop environment, which can run on multiple Linux systems. You can in principle run Linux Mint with it (as opposed to the default Cinnamon). I think if Microsoft continues this moneymaking policy with it's hardware allies, people flock to Linux. but the problem is we need one or two unified versions of Linux - such as Mint you mentioned if it's ok for every newcomer - which are easy to use and PC game and app developers invest on developing for long term just like Android for smartphones not tens of different versions for different professional users. I kind of feel this is going to happen
Totally agree, a lot of perfectly working PCs could be saved with Linux. 👍
For the average home user that only needs to browse the internet and send some emails a Linux Mint would do the trick. That's where I would be pushing people. Having said that, Windows 11 isn't all that bad when you customize the hell out of it. Komorebi has been a game changer
More people would have upgraded to Windows 11 if it did not have that TPM module requirement. I know that's what stopped me from upgrading.
Windows 10 may be the next windows XP of long term support.
It is if you count the LTSC versions which go up to 2029/2032.
I'm the same. I don't plan on upgrading to Win 11 even if I could, not until I have to, mostly because my PC will need a major upgrade (MB & CPU) before I can even install Win 11 and I know that Win 10 will run all the games I play now, while Win 11 is an unknown on that front for me.
Windows 10 doesn't have any issues. Microsoft can literally keep it updated with all new architectures and network protocols if they wanted.
They want everyone to transition because of all the new telemetry and ads they're showing in win11. I remember when I was happy hearing win 10 was meant to be the last operating system, but unfortunately the new ceo had plans changed. Now we have 11.... A huge downgrade
How do you know. windows 11 you can now install with a minimum requirement of PTM 1.2 SO it's gone down from 2.0. That will help some people has PTM 1.2 is available on most CPUs from 2015 & upwards. There are no requirements for the Motherboard anymore just the CPU, but you are still stuffed if your CPU is prier 2015 thought. But if your PC is 9 years old you really should be ready to upgrade it. PTM 1.2 will require a fresh install So a bit more of a hassle with backing up files.
I left Windows after they discontinued support for Windows 7. I don't like malware baked into my operating system.
"... you're probably going to be running it soon."
No, I'm not. Microsoft lost me as an OS customer when they lied about Windows 10 being the last version of Windows. I spent ~$100 directly to get a license for Windows and upgraded to 10.

The three main annoying things to look for in 24H2 are : Fresh install with only Microsoft account; copilot; and recall. I have installed Linux zorian OS, and I think it's the closest to windows and I am very happy with it.
Copilot came with 23H2, and it can be trend off its just 2 clicks Job done. 24H2 has an AI app but that too is optional you do not have to turn it on its off by default.

Indeed. Linux definitely has downsides of it's own, but every new version of Windows makes it's upsides more significant. Windows 7 was probably the last version of Windows where I would have actually Recommended choosing Windows over Linux by default... partially because Linux has got better, mostly because Windows has got worse. 8.1 (we'll ignore the stupidity that was release version 8) the choice was very situational (type of user, what they actually wanted to do with the machine, etc.). 10? I tried it... the only benefit I got out of it was appriciating that 8.1 wasn't worse. That experience got me properly into using Linux for day to day (non-gaming) stuff.
