AMG G63 RETURNS! My First Drive in the New G Wagon

- The new Mercedes-AMG G63 is here, and the question has to be asked - should it join the Shmeemobiles!? The full AMG V8 G Wagon model has been updated, along with the G580 'EQG' with its famous G-Turn arriving, but let's have a first drive in both to see what they are like!
When the previous / pre-facelift G63 arrived half a decade ago, I was blown away by how much it transformed the iconic but not-so-great model into a car that not only boasted serious off-roading capability but also happened to be a new chapter in the story in great style. That event took place in Perpignan, France, where we again return for the next part of the book to be written, this time featuring a mild-hybrid addition to the G63, and the arrival of the EQG project in production form as the G580 with EQ Technology.
After that day back then, I promptly ordered a new G63, a car that I owned for 3 years and had the most incredible time driving and using for many different things. However, it departed the collection and has yet to be replaced, so that begs the question of whether there's an empty spot here waiting to be filled.
To find out, I'm firstly on the road in the G63 that now only offers 585hp and 800Nm from the 4.0l TT V8, but also is supported by a 48V hybrid system for an additional boost of 20hp and 200Nm as we've seen in other Mercedes models. Combine that with new Performance package suspension, updated interior, keyless entry and numerous other elements that the G really needed and you have a solid machine.
The big talking point however is down to the G580; an all electric model with 4 motors offering 587hp and 1,150Nm, along with a 116kWh usable battery and the fastest model of the lot - as we promptly discover on the off-road rally stage before heading for an introduction to the G Steer and G Turn modes - something totally new that is now possible thanks to the latest technology.
It certainly begs the question, whether to add a new G Wagon to the garage, but then if so, which one!?

Amazing! But i think your inside cameras need an update, i think is because is not 60fps, i think you should record 4k 60hz to keep the same as your main camera. No rush..

I've had my 2023 G63 for almost 6 months now and I'm loving it. Besides the keyless entry I don't think I'm missing out too much. I also much prefer the steering wheel in mine compared to the new ones.
MBUX SYSTEM is the major change your 2023 does not have, however, its still a wicked ride.

Since you've already had the G63, I think the only way to go is up (literally) to a 4x4 squared, both for excitement and content.

WOW! A big vehicle that measures it's turning circle in degrees then uses all 360 of them. The louder you scream the faster you go. That is very trick.

only thinking on this as how the nose is different in a diesel to a v-8 handling . then the sound what db band if you had a dog would the whirl of the ev discomfort them.
Would be cool to see another g wagon but with a twist and make into off roader. Get snorkel and roof tent and winch and go on some trips. Be good tow vehicle.
