The screw needs a Torx T20 bit, not a 7/64 hex. Look at the tool being used in the video, and at the top of the screw. Ford never used a hex head screw here at any point in time during this manufacturing run.
I’m only being confrontational about this because I know that plenty of people do not keep Torx drivers around the house. The audio in this post would lead them to believe they are ready to do this task, only to become very frustrated when they end up having to go find a store that has a T20 driver. And probably also another screw, since they stripped out the original one’s head because somebody told them to use the wrong driver. That would suck.

The filter replacement on MY '13 Focus did NOT go as easily as in the video. There was an additional trim piece that had to be pulled away from and rotated downward to gain access to the panel that held the filter in place. I have no idea what that trim piece was supposed to hide. Replacing the filter itself was a snap, replacing the panel was a joke, couldn't get it to line to snap it in place. I just left it hanging in place and called it a day!

@@filterheads It was MY fault completely! I was trying to install the panel inside out, the SMOOth side faces outward. That trim piece that I thought was in the way, actually goes under and around the filter housing ending up snapping onto one of the refrigerant tubes. My first mistake was not putting enough light on the subject and just using the braille method! Next time I do this, easy peasy! LOL Thanks for the video!

This was a difficult job. The hardest thing was finding a screwdriver head that fit in the screw. Next hardest was squeezing the air filter into the slot. I would not have been able to do it without your short video.

Happy to hear you got the job done. I do agree this is a poor design.

Mine was a t20 torx screw.

Depending on when it was manufactured we have some variations on the screws or bolts. Thank you for informing us!

@@filterheads No, actually they are all T20 Torx. All of them. Furthermore, the one in your video is T20, if you look closely. The audio does not match what your eyeballs can see in the video.

My 2013 is totally different than the video. The side of the center console goes from the shift area down to the floor.

Yes Ford's Engineers did a poor job designing this install.

It was so tight up in there that I couldn't get the top of the plastic piece to seat into it's spot....so I clicked in the lower part of it and tightened the screw. Very poorly planned- my wife's 2012 Honda Civic has one of the easiest ones I've done- it's behind the glove box and takes all of a minute to change with no tools needed.

This is the most atrocious design I’ve ever seen. You actually have to distort the shape of the filter to install it. WTF?

Engineers suck, always have to make things harder or not engineered correctly. Why make this crap difficult? They dont need to. People have been making automobiles for over 100 years now and they should be made right, easy ect.....

Some housing designs are easier to access than others. The footwell is by far the most inconvenient placement.
