    Just started working at a Ford dealership this Monday and was taught these filters today. Apparently that left screw always gets lost behind all the stuff trying to put it back in and most techs don't bother to retrieve it, the other 3 are good on their own. So if anyone loses it, just know 90% of the time ford techs do too and aren't too pressed about getting it back, so don't worry too much if any of you guys drop it and can't get it 😂

    We have owned a 2014 Fusion since new (Feb 2014) and I replaced this filter myself every 10,000 to 15,000 miles (16,000 to 20,000 km). Most were quite dirty. Be very careful not to drop any leaf debris into the fan below the filter or you will be trying to vacuum that difficult spot out. Debris in the fan will make some strange buzzing noises, trust me. I agree with everyone here that the Ford designer tasked with making the glovebox easy to hinge down well out of the way like my Mach E does, should have been supervised by a mechanic then sent back to school to finish a course on common sense.

    Thanks for your video, I just changed my cabin air filter in less than 30 minutes on my 2019 ford fusion hybrid titanium. The glove compartment only has 3 screws. 2 on the top and one on the far right. Once you remove the glove compartment, there is no connector to unplug. I spent a little time searching for the fourth screw. Filter was pretty nasty. I will change it very more often. I had to trim a little the CF11775 in order to fit perfectly.

      It's a Ford thing. I can change the one out in my '20 Forester without any tools. You literally just push in on both sides of the glove compartment, and it separates from its carrier. Then the filter is accessible right behind it. I could probably do it in two minutes, start to finish if I hurry. But Ford is too cheap to make a glove compartment that's capable of separating into two pieces like that so they make it such a difficult process.

    Watched this video, went out to the garage and completed the filter change on our 2019 SE Hybrid in 16 minutes. I'm a 67 year old man with trifocal glasses. This job isn't that bad. I did not have to remove the airbag screws, though the left side under dash glovebox screw is not the easiest thing to spot. Also note, my filter cover did NOT have any screws, the tabs were hefty enough that I think you'd have to be pretty brutal to break them, and, the lid was hinged on the bottom. Apparently, Ford made improvements along the way.
    Again, if you have a little bit of mechanical sense, this job is not bad at all.

      Yeah, for anyone else doing this. If you have a airbag down there, it's held on with four 8 mm screws. Yout must removed all 4 before you can get to that one 7 mm on the left side.

    • @mawelsh
      @mawelsh Před 2 měsíci

      I knew something was wrong when the 7mm didn't fit in what turned out to be the airbag module using 8mm. You can get to the 4th 7mm without removing the 8mm screws but it's dark and blind - extended hand 7mm socket did it.

  • @pcnetworx1

    I just performed this on my 2019 Fusion hybrid. The cabin air filter change procedure is not as well designed as other cars where you just move a rod and the glove box drops down extra far, HOWEVER it's also not as much of a horror story as some commenters make this procedure sound. I watched this video once through uninterrupted, then I did this project right after. I took my time unfastening everything and it was fine. And by took my time... I figured this procedure out in less than 15 minutes. Note though, the final clips in this procedure holding the door over the filter tray itself are super flimsy. I did break the right one off easily while doing this process. And after seeing how easily that right clip broke off, I understand why someone made a decision to also have screws to hold the filter door shut in case you break off the clips as I did. That's over engineered because those last plastic clips are under engineered... Interesting note if you have the 2019 SE hybrid model: in my vehicle there was no wiring harness connecting my glove box to the car. When the glove box dropped, this was helpful because the box just comes out without snagging on any cable.

      @@DilanGilluly It's a bad design for sure when many, many other cars have toolless designs for the cabin air filter. I can't change the design of the car, just filled in notes of my casual repair experience. Changed mine! Took 15 minutes. I did however break one clip getting it out and it went flying and then when I went to put the cover on the other side broke. There weren’t 2 screws in mine but looks like there should have been. I’ve had the car since new so it’s never been changed. It was gross

    I had my ‘14 for 4 years and was taking it to the dealership I bought the car from for oil changes and tire rotations before they ever told me about the cabin filter needing to be changed. I was unaware my car had a cabin filter, always thought that’s what the air filter under the hood was for 🤷🏼‍♀️. Pretty sure the cabin filter needs to be changed again because it hasn’t been changed since 2018. The dealership doing a rush job to put the glove box back in could be the reason the door to said glove box isn’t flushed closed anymore.
