I worked in India for a few months as I had my own house built over there
(Long story short I'm back in Scotland again and happy)
So 7 weeks into building I thought that they'd be pretty much done as it was just a 4 bedroom with 2 main bathrooms, 4 en suite, kitchen, dining room and living room and couple other small rooms like pantry etc.
So I went over to go help out as by this point the interior would be getting all the bits done, tiling, plastering etc and I wanted to be very involved with the finishing.
Gets there and they had barely even began! They done literally everything by hand. Even mixing the concrete!
They had barely finished the foundations lol
So I went and asked why no machines etc and couldn't get a straight answer.
So I was walking around taking into account what needed done and what machines needed etc etc. Then this guy put a pic axe clean through his mates leg!!!!
And I mean the entire 10inch side of the sharp end of the axe!!
So I took it upon myself to go hire the bloody equipment, and in grand total it cost me £2,600 to hire about 20 different petrol powered machines for over a month!! £2,600!!!! And their gaffer wouldn't even pay!
And trust me, yeah it's much cheaper to have a house built there than here, but there was plenty in his budget for the machines.
So I sacked the 'contractor' and personally employed all the guys who he sacked when I sacked him and we got it done in no time at all.
And I paid each of the men 700,000 each for their work and their boss was gonna give them 90,000 lol!!!!
They were all over the moon and now I've built about 70 houses in past 5 years and I still have every single one of the men who started that first house with me.
And 700,000 rupee's is only around £8,000
India are the worst for treating their people/staff/workers like shit!
I even found the guy who basically got axe murdered and gave him £1,000

Omg working that high with no health and safety concerns...these men work hard these workers are not afraid of work they work for so little money but look at the end of the build it must make them proud.its amazing what can be built with just hard hands..

I worked in engineering and I had to do a lot of surveys on construction sites and I've been through some stupid safety situations but that was crazy.
Good job on exposing the inadequate safety among Indian workers ..let's pick up this matter and get stringent laws in the construction industry

Well to be fair right, if you got paid £4.50 for 8 hours of work would you prefer to lay 100 bricks in that time or 500? The longer they take the more they get paid so why shouldn’t they slow it down a bit haha
100 a day is a bit of a joke in all fairness though my father back in his prime would lay around 1000 normal 4 inch concrete blocks and that would be a normal day

Peggi 18 any bricky can build a lot off block but then then you have ties . Dpc. Insulation. Sills. Window hights. Lintels ext. that’s what kills it and takes up the time And limits the blocks you can lay
