    Back in the early 2000's, I was at a McDonald's in London somewhere and I got a Demo Disc which had a playable demo of this game, then years later I tried remembering it and couldn't. Then I remembered it was something like "Jynx" except I kept spelling it wrong so it nothing would show up. lol
    Fun little game, I'd say.
    Also, I read somewhere on the internet that a PS2 version was planned, but canceled for some reason. And it's odd they didn't release it in the U.S./Canada.

    I feel your pain for not knowing the name of something you clearly remember. I remember this one sprite comic where there's a red and blue guy going on adventures with Link and Zelda and a green slime girl. I remember that the antagonist was a green dragon, and that flash animation was used to showcase the fusion between the green slime girl and the red slime girl that was supposedly her rival. Does anyone remember anything like that?

    Oh man, Traveler's Tales. Wrath of Cortex was my absolutely favorite sans the hilarious PS2 loading times.
    I want to say I've tried Jinx before. My childhood local library had a section with games and a Playstation, and it was always the weirdest stuff I'd find in it. Like Running Wild of all things.

    • @dftfire
      @dftfire Před 2 lety +2

      The loading-times were improved in the "Platinum" or "Greatest Hits" versions. They still don't match the Xbox load-times, but they're about half the time of the original releases

    25:00 Hmm... foreshadowing? ;)
    In terms of other games where you can visually remember what it looks like but can't remember name wise is Space Station Silicon Valley on the N64. Then it got ported to the PS1 being renamed to Evo's Space Adventure, though it was butcherd so badly. They fixed the item glitch there I guess?

  • @DoctorInk20
    @DoctorInk20 Před 2 lety +3

    It's funny how we all have these bits of media from childhood that we visually remember in detail, but the names elude us for ages. I had many of these before I had decent Internet to do research. Cartoon shows, mostly. Some I'm still having trouble finding today.
    Looking at _Jinx,_ it feels like a "proof of concept" or an alpha build for _a better game._ There's so much to build on - like something one would use as a basis for a wacky platformer, but lacks any real meat. Nice aesthetics, mind.

    The game gives me this was pretty much finished sooner but couldn’t release it till 2003 vibe. Despite that, I’ve got such a thing for PS1 era platformers that have this colorful pink/purplish hues. I wonder how it would’ve been received if it released a few years prior. But man, Jinx is such a generic looking hero. He couldn’t have just been braver, but he definitely could’ve benefitted from a redesign.
    Jankness aside, kinda want to pick it up. Doubt it’ll work on my NTSC PS1/PS2. Thanks for reviewing this one Pete, would’ve never known about it had you not covered it to be honest.

    "40 Winks" is the closest game I'd say this feels like for me... though in terms of repetitive gameplay (constantly find key, open door, defeat enemies, repeat) then I'd say 20th Anniversary Pac-Man World is similar. All you do there is find a nearby fruit to open a door.
