      To elaborate further, there's a running Internet joke that oil is made of the remains of dead dinosaurs. I clarify this because in reality it's not, it's made of decayed plant matter and mostly plankton, so if someone knows the geologically accurate explanation they'd still be confused. XD

    The issue with free food, free Healthcare, free education is that SOMEONE has to make that happen for you. Someone has to take time out of their day to teach you, to prepare your food safely, to give you adequate care to stay healthy. That's labor and their labor cannot be unrewarded while you do nothing in return. If people were fully independent and killed, cooked, grew, and prepped their own food. If they taught and learned from each other. If they simply tried to be medically sound to keep themselves healthy. But all of that was what humans did at the beginning and we barely made it to 30 years old. The problem can only leave if all needs are met by outside forces that take care of all your needs without costing people anything. Future earth with automated machines can make this a reality, as long as the machines are self reparing and such.

      Exactly, and we also know that the bums class who refuse to work will eventually become restless and clamore for better and better free stuff.
      Case in point a Hotel in my neck of the woods in NYC, a top of the line place took in migrants under the govt dime.
      They were set to be moved after a couple months to a new facility. They became angry and combative because they had no choice in the FREE stuff or shelters they were given.
      They even complained about the food, free phones and medical treatment and this was in the span of a couple of months.
      Imagine worldwide billions of entitled people all clamoring for better, better, better without working for it.

    • @ukyba
      @ukyba Před 7 měsíci

      @@Karlswebb that's a symptom of early change. That's how culture works in general. It takes many years, sometimes hundreds before benefits of the wealthy become basics of the workforce. That's society as a whole. The best quality products and access to advancements will always stay with the wealthy. But then in 10 years, maybe 20, those advancements are more readily available and the wealthy have the next upgrades. So on and so forth until eventually the process results in the previously mentioned setup. Of course the rich and powerful will always have the better hand to play, but that's life.

People act like that would be some kind of dystopia, but the market for luxury homes, food, medical care, etc. isn't going to go away. To explain why we pay for food and stuff we technically don’t have to but we can’t eat like we used to so it’s better for us to pay. Also to make the food we eat now it costs labour which people won’t do for free so they need paid but the people can’t give away money or they’ll go bankrupt. So you don’t HAVE to pay for food and water but we do because we have mostly forgotten how to hunt.
    Edit: didn’t read comments before I wrote this. I didn’t copy anything just didn’t see anyone saying this

  • @iTzDynamic
    @iTzDynamic Před rokem +10

    4:50 "why should we have to pay for that?" because someone has to bottle the water, filter it, make sure it's safe to consume. these things take someone who has to get it done, even if it's an automated process, someone has to ensure the system stays up to date, passes inspection. i would love a free society but with free, comes entitlement and no one should be entitled to more water or more food than someone else. someone has to grow the food. "what if the food is already provided?" someone has to serve it and dispense it to be retrieved from the consumers. think of the rick and morty episode with the miniverse. "thats just slavery with extra steps" lmfaooo the idea sounds nice but our system works because others put in more work them some, if not most, so they get the biggest benefit. people at the bottom shouldnt complain for their inadequacies/ short comings when they are just as able to work as hard as the next person. the next person has a purpose for why they do what they do. be the best you that you can be and the rewards will come. dont expect it, just work hard and know it will come. this is why Goku will always be stronger than Vegeta. He works hard for the benefit of working hard, not to compare to others like Vegeta. So in the end, we cannot have a society where everything is free because someone has to work to get the food, water, etc. Everyone does their part, when everything is free, people can get extra as much as they want, which leaves less for the next person, which then defeats the purpose of everything being free if everyone cannot have

      @@johnyrewilliams7820 Yes, because the random guy on the internet understands better than the people who are actively involved in the defense of the country exactly what spending is needed. It may or may not be bloated, but here's a question for you: Without knowing the answer to how much bloat there actually is, how much money would you re-allocate from defense spending, and are you prepared for the consequences of being wrong and taking too much?
      To get to your other point, you're being quite quick and loose with other people's paychecks, and assuming what they would be willing to pay out to the government for an unquantified return on food. I, for one, would not approve of _any_ further tax dollars being taken from my paycheck so that I could eat for free; I'd rather choose to spend what I want on food instead, thank you very much.
      What's your favorite burger place? Have you considered that if they were subsidized by the government, and literally couldn't fail if they wanted to, what would happen to the quality of their food? That burger you like - or substitute in any other meal - takes a lot of prep work and ingredients. If they're too big to fail, then maybe they'll step back on their pricier ingredients to save a few bucks for their own pockets. After all, they're still providing free food, right? What does it matter if it isn't as good as it was before, when they had to attract your interest? It's not a life and death matter, so long as the food is still safe to eat, after all.
      Now apply that on a broad scale. Remove competition, and why should there be any quality or variety at all? They're getting paid either way. Moreover, if food is free, then why should _I_ work, and have my hard earned dollars be taken from me anyway, when my neighbor's tax "contribution" will keep me and my family fed as it is?
      Free stuff is nice, and it's nice to assume that the necessities for survival could be free, but that's not the way the world, or the way that humanity works. Either we work for each other for compensation, or we work together as slaves to feed an upper class.

Steaks don't fall out of the sky and land in your plate, Someone has cook that steak, another person has to butcher that meat, another person has to make the spices to cook with, another person has to grow the crops that make the spices and feed the cow, using fertilizer that someone else had to make from compost, using compost left over from other people's waste. Not to mention the people who need to make the plate or the stove and all the people making the materials to be used to make the plate and stove, etc. None of those people want to do work for nothing, so that's why it costs money. Anything in the world that you can get for free is just paid for by someone else, like education, police protection and some medical care. In those cases, that payment comes from the government and therefore your taxes so you're still paying for it one way or another
    The reason free stuff works in this Dinosaur utopia is that they seem to have developed some kinda technology to do all that work instead of people doing it. There's free food but nobody needs to go out and make the food, nobody needs to prepare it and nobody needs to serve it, it's all done autonomously in what I assume is a shockingly energy-efficient manner. Nothing actually goes into making each steak so nothing needs to be spent in getting it. Though even this wouldn't be realistic if a human did it, because nobody would go out of their way to develop that kinda technology unless they were getting paid to. Hence we're all in one endless cycle of needing to work to eat, despite society often having a massive surplus in food.

  • @johns6014

    4:20 It would be nice if it were free, but even if it were free to consumers, it's not free to procure and produce. Wheat, beef, milk, eggs, sugar, and so on. We don't subsist on sunlight, we subsist on things that need to be grown, fed, and processed. Even then, what I listed are the very basics, but really, it's so much deeper still. Cows, for example, need space, food, heathcare of their own, and protection while they're alive. That takes a lot of money, time, and effort. Then they need to be processed, broken down safely, and delivered to where they need to go so that you can eat beef. That's more money, time, and effort. And that's just one example. It's the same for everything you eat, even before getting into the more complex things. Say you want a hamburger; well, take that process with the beef, then consider what it takes to get wheat, sugar, yeast, and clean water for the buns, to process the milk into the cheese, to get the seasonings and spices and fruits and vegetables that you need to to complete the hamburger.
    Every step of that process takes tremendous effort and the involvement of dozens, if not hundreds of people. Should those people not work for pay? Should they be slaves so that everyone can eat for free? If there was no pay involved the creation of food, then those people would turn inward, and just focus on feeding themselves.
    It's the same thing for healthcare. It takes years and years of expensive and exhaustive education to learn how to treat people efficiently. Doctors aren't just born with medical knowledge, after all. Medicine follows a similar track of production as food, where it needs to be grown or procured, treated, and processed into the final product. That's not to say that there aren't flaws in the system that shouldn't be there. Medicine and healthcare is far more expensive than it should be, but that's primarily caused by external forces in the form of lobbyists and political intervention. But on the basic level, it loops back to the same kind of question: should doctors and pharmacists and therapists work for free and be slaves? Because if that's the answer, then they won't be around for much longer.
    This continues on with every industry. Technology: Parts, components, training and expertise take money, time, and effort. Rinse and repeat. Construction. Energy and Power, Manufacturing. Heating and Cooling, Entertainment, and so on and so forth. Everything is interlinked so that we can live the lives that we have now, rather than needing to spend the entirety of our lives just making sure that we can grow enough food to survive. Because farmers do this on a large scale, it allows other people to specialize in other fields without needing to worry about their own families starving. Paying for food isn't so much of a cost on you to live, as it is a mean of communities as a whole working together to ensure
    And if your response is that goverment would just subsidize everyone, then consider first, where do they get the money? Taxation and printing; with the former, you're paying more money anyway, without being allowed to choose whether you actually wanted that hamburger or not, and with the latter, you're going to see inflation to the point that your money is worthless anyway. Either way, you lose net value. That, itself, is even before human corruption and greed is factored in, which will have their own cost on you somewhere down the line.
    So, TL;DR, food and water shouldn't be free, because just getting it to your plate is a highly involved process that can involve hundreds of people's labor, at a minimum, and they need to be compensated or else they won't continue to work, which means that the food that you wanted for free will no longer exist period, unless you grow it yourself.

    When you you pay for water, you're paying for the sanitation needed to make that water drinkable in the first place and the infrastructure to get it to your tap. When you pay for education you're paying for the training it took for that teacher to become qualified as well as the time they spend teaching you. I agree that all humans have a fundamental right to these things, but that isn't going to make them appear out of thin air. People have to work to provide these things and people who work have to get paid.

    The thing with the money issue is that if you don't have to pay you don't have to work.

    When you work, you help your society, then get paid for your services. With that money, you can then pay someone services to get what you need.

      Sure, but who decided a 40 hour work week was appropriate? Or that those hours should be dragged along 5 of our 7 days to each week? Studies even show a 4 day work week produces better results for all parties involved. People need more whole days to unwind from the busy scheduled world. The alternative to whole days would be small doses everyday, like 5½ hour shifts everyday. That means a commute everyday, also. Bleh! It's too much. So we're back to the middle ground, as things are, or improving the work/life cycle with more whole days off.

    Normally I would agree on things that keep us alive being free but as I got older I saw it different. Water and Power should be free but paying for it is SUPPOSE to go towards upkeep. Keeping the power on and our water clean. While some of it goes towards that we all know not ALL of it does otherwise things would be better in that department. Housing should be free as well but then we would have to get rid of overly large homes, which im all for because I see a lot of that as a waste of limited resources. Yes, we can regrow trees for wood but it takes times and wood isn't the only thing that makes up houses. Then we would have to assign a new way of housing. Either by class, job, location or go the way of sci-fi movies and make every apartment the same size and every house the same size. Varying only by the amount of rooms needed for children. Food should also be free but again, people who grow/raise food need money to keep doing what they're doing. Again, upkeep. Then there is money for storage and distribution. That being said if we look at the numbers, for example in the United States, going by population we could all pay for a week's worth of groceries for one dollar and cover the millions it would cost for all that. All issues that people are not going to want to change or fix but in the end we should still pay for it; just not anywhere near the amount we ARE paying for it. It should drastically less.

    I agree about the basic human living cost. To a degree. I live in Newfoundland, which is the bigger island province of Canada sitting in the Atlantic ocean; with Labrador being the northern mainland part of our government. The cost of living here can get intense at times with $1200 monthly rent or $300,000 houses if you can get a mortgages, along with $6 cartons of eggs and $5 2 liter cartons of milk. But the average wage here doesn't sustain that. We already have mostly free health care where people literally die in the emergency room while waiting for medical help. We are taxed to death, we normally have to give up at least 20% of what we make to federal and provisional taxes. So I guess it's a cavoite of sorts. But some kind of supplement on living besides the tax refund by wage benefit would be nice

    Not having to pay for water i totally understand. However if you don't want to hunt/forage/ grow your own food. Then you should have to pay for it. Water is one of those things you just have to find to be able to drink. Even if its dirty or salty. Fire is easy to make, and materials for it are abundant. Food is an entirely different story tho. Food has always been work. If you look at hunter gatherers today. Hunting is extremely hard work, and very dangerous. Not only do you risk getting attacked by whatever you are hunting, but the smell of the blood and meat when you do kill it attracts predators. You want to eat? Get off your ass and either pay for the food other people worked for. Or become one of the people who go out and find it

    You talk about basic things being free. Food should be free, education should be free. Nothing is free. When we talk about that something is free, we're actually saying that is paid for by someone else. Food will never be free, since someone needs to produce the food and the labor that goes into food production should be rewarded.
    We hear all the time, that in some countries education is free, but that's not correct. Yes it's free for the person being educated, but the cost of running the education must be paid somehow, which is usually done via high taxes. In general this means that a person who receives education that results in higher income will pay back the cost over a lifetime via taxation. Of course this also means that anyone who is not educated will be forced to pay high taxes in order to educate others, without receiving any benefit themselves.

    Sure, different food sources should be available for people to take care of and feed themselves. But free food isn't free food. Free food is food someone else paid and worked for.
    I understand society is unfair in ways that don't make it simple for everyone to feed themselves, but a system were people just take and don't work, or exchange money (which essentially represents your work), for their food is just as unsustainable as burning fossil fuels forever. You're just kicking the can down the road to the next generation, or those actually working to produce the food you feel you deserve for doing nothing but just being here.
