@@thewrecker2974 The only part that wasn't true was how quickly he figured out portal travel. Outside of certain implications the s3 made like why Rick left his reality in the first place, the stuff that's actually important in that scene was all true, especially the conversation the two had previously.
I like how this episode is a time travel episode without utilizing time travel so they don't have to fall the rules of it.
At the beginning of season 3 when the bug guy takes him to the memory of him inventing the portal gun and his family dying to another rick, that pretty much happened.
When Rick was in prison you see his backstory
Bro you saw his wife and child die. That really happened. So his Beth is really dead and this is another Beth that got abandoned by a Rick

I can only assume the season 3 ep 1 memory of Diane and Beth being blown up wasn't entirely fake, and Rick must have just embellished a detail or two to fake the code to hack the brainalyzer.

Bro, you saw the scene back in season 3 where an alternate Rick killed our Rick's Diane and Beth. Rick said that it was all a lie, but Mr. NIMBUS, his arch nemesis confirmed it to actually be true.

In my interpretation Rick wants to save him because birdperson was right, like, if life isnt meaningful then why live? If Rick wants to live and have adventures he has to care for something, otherwise he wouldnt be having adventures and feeling fulfilled when doing it. Its even because of this that he started to like his family to the point to put himself in danger for them. I can assure you that S1 Rick would just not give a shit about Beth being taken prisioner, probably just going to another dimension where this never happened. But right now rick is getting to the point of having multiple measures to protect the family he has now. Right now, its not even about caring for the "original versions" of his family, but for the ones where he built up a good relationship.
And of course Rick is still a shitty person, and just now slowly opening himself to care not just for the people he cares about, but also what those people want for themselves, and thats the reason he didnt really gave a shit about birdperson's child.
