For sure a top episode in terms of RM experience. The sheer hubris of Beth finally cheating on Jerry - but only with herself, because she kinda knows she the smart and attractive daughter of THE Rick Sanchez and doesnt settle for anything. The hilarious Summer and Morty reactions. The way Rick comes through... with practical suggestions because he also experienced being enamored with himself. The Rizz Jerry at the end.

It should be noted that Rick never said that he was enamored with himself, he just implied that he was familiar with her situation without giving any specifics. Which do you think is more likely? Rick having a fling with an alternate version of himself, or Rick encountering a pair of Ricks who were in a relationship with each other?
Given what we know of Rick C-137, I find the latter to be far more probable when you consider the fact that he hates himself and all other versions as well, and that he went on a lengthy crusade against other Ricks where he stacked up a veritable mountain of Rick corpses to his name. He's not exactly a narcissist in the way that Beth is; in fact, it's more accurate to say that he's the opposite of a narcissist who would have sex with himself.

Rule for clones is:
If you control the clone directly, like they don't move or think without your knowledge, then it's not cheating.
If they have their own mind and opinions and you do not directly control them, then it counts as different person.
It's like timelines, the minute the paths diverge it's a different timeline.
The drink Rick apparently had for the Beths probably amplified the feelings but didn't directly cause then, to which it went too far and he realized "ok this sucked, never doing this again." And locked it in the vault forever.
And good to see actual growth for Rick, the Beths are really spiteful for good reason but it's causing them to openly dismiss his attempts to help them. They agreed for the clone plan or at least Space Beth definitely went along with it.
Also Rizz God Jerry, never would've expected that.

in this case, i feel like it would only be a "clone" as soon as the other Beth was made. As soon as one went to space and the other stayed home, they started creating different memories and became different people. Not disagreeing by the way, only adding to it a little.
They are basically engineered twins. Two people with the same genetic code, some memories together (in this case many more) - and whole lifes on their own.
don't know what the Beths think Rick's original Dimension is like, but they must know that he's not the one who abandoned this family, right? from his Dimension, he doesn't have anyone but the neighboors and he just showed up at Prime Beth's garage step one day when he was getting tired of endlessly killing Ricks that were coming for him aand because he probably came up with the Idea of chilling with the Family of his own Family's Killer.
The only People Rick abandoned are the prime Beth, Jerry and Summer. You can hardly call the self sacrifice he did in Season 2 Finale abandonment.

i feel like this is an underrated Season 6 ep. Alot of ppl focus on the BethxBeth aspect but i feel this ep shows more about beths relationship with herself. we spent the last 5 seasons unpacking her relationship w rick but now we get a peek into how that affected her own self view. Insecurities, desires, fears, etc. i Hope we get more space beth in the future to unpack this more. My fav season 6 ep. +the Black mirror reference lmao

So, the thing is, the Beths may be clones, but they each have their own experiences, personalities, wants, and dreams. At this point, it's less like they're clones, and more like they're identical twins. Therefore, their relationship is less masturbation, and more lesbian twincest.
Also, Rick should be able to live down cloning her. She had the dilemma, he offered clone her, and she insisted that he choose what she do with her life; in doing so, she gave him the implicit consent. She effectively said "Yes, you can clone me if you want to. I have no objections to being cloned." He was irresponsibly responsible in return.
In effect, she, his adult daughter, wanted him to decide whether she should remain someplace that she felt shackled but that kept her in his life, or to let her go to find herself, at the cost of sending her away from everything that she knew and loved, including him - the man who went on a decades-long vendetta to kill the man who killed his version of her. Both choices turned out relatively well for her, but she, as an adult, should have been able to make up own mind, rather than forcing her father to decide what she should be doing with her life. Most people don't get the opportunity to see how they would turn out at both ends of such a life-altering crossroads, so she at least gets the closure that so very few people have every been given - and another lover out of it as well, apparently. Overall, they were both at fault, and neither handled the situation well.
Knowing Rick, it's likely that he initially created the clone as a result of his own dogma that "nothing really matters" and was prepared to send her away, but he got cold feet at the last moment when he realized he would actually lose her, and so left the decision up to chance, then removed the memory to deal with his own pain. Notice that he never intended to follow through on the second part of the deal, the part where he "killed the domestic version and implanted her memories into the space faring version". What really matters is that he still loves them both as his daughters, and he doesn't treat either as anything less, let alone as a disposable clone. Quite telling for someone who believes that "nothing really matters, because he can go to a new reality with a new family, or he can clone them or alter their memories at a whim and no one would be the wiser".
Thank you, I knew that her(well both of them) shifting the blame onto Rick was wrong but couldn't quite get the wording right.
This is why I don't like/get when people insist Rick and the show's themes are nihilist, it's pretty consistently telling you through Rick's actions and main motivations that his biggest struggle is with the fact that things like family really DO matter to him, even though he doesn't want to admit it.

Is it, though? This was about the most extreme example that I can recall in the series, outside of Naruto, but that was at least accidental and didn't actually involve the incest part of the equation, just the fertilization part. From here, there's only one other episode this season where incest is a major theme, and while it's the primary threat of the episode, it's not the overall focus. After that, there's a one off joke, and that's it. As far as the run of the series goes, this _was_ the wild incest episode.
