  • Hello guys, welcome to my channel and to my reaction to the seventh episode of the first season of The Expanse.
Today, Chrisjean goes on a little field trip to meet Holden's mother, Miller decides to leave Ceres behind and the crew on the Rocinante discovers an unwanted stowaway and almost gets in trouble with the martian navy.

I continue to love how this show weaves together a story. We learn here from Amos that the Martian boat is a "two man skiff". This was foreshadowed by the Uncle Mateo bit, where two Martians out on patrol boarded Mateo's ship, so we are predisposed to accept Amos' description of the Martian vessel trying to board the Rocinante.

The explosion you see in Diogo’s visor is his Uncle Mateo’s ship being destroyed by the Martians. Mateo attempted to use the rocks he had mined as a weapon by slinging them at the Martian ship (this can maybe be seen as a David vs. Goliath reference). Mateo knew that this would do little to hurt the Martians but he figured he was dead anyway so he wanted to show one last act of defiance. Recall that in episode 4, Avasarala said to her grandson, “I worry about people who throw rocks.” This is a bit of foreshadowing.

Smart people do smart things. Avasarala immediately recognized that Holden had become an important player in the interplanetary politics game, both in having knowledge regarding the destruction of the Canterbury and The Donager, but also as the presumed captain of the Tachi, a fully-stocked state-of-the art Martian war ship. Having identified him as a player, she sets out to investigate his character by going straight to the source. She cleverly believes knowing the sort of man he is will be important to her in the manipulation of future events.

We saw that the Martian ship launched a missile before the rocks struck it, so we can be sure the explosion was Mateo's ship. The Martian ship may not have been destroyed.
Even after having tried to kill Miller, Dawes was still trying to recruit him. Dawes is dangerous, but he's not cynical about his desire for Belter freedom.

Great observation- you noticed that Miller left his hat behind! Remember that.

I mean, it was pretty hard to miss. ^^

@@AngusSees Yes you are absolutely right - the camera focuses right on it. So it's hard to miss now, but considering how much stuff happens in the show, that little detail can be easily forgotten later on...

Would have been nice if Octavia joined Miller but he's on his own crusade to find Julie, because as Dawes said, he's in love with her. Does seem like some sort of obsession. Kenzo the spy is pretty fun. You cut the part where he rigged the door to shock or kill Amos whenever he came back and then disabled it when Amos said he got to help. Don't know if you picked up on that or not. Keep going. It's great to see how all the threads are coming together.

Havelock is driving a red Ferrari pretending to be Tom Selleck.
The actor, Jay Hernandez, left to star in his own show.. Magnum P.I.reboot.
The title "Windmills" is another Don Quixote reference, which we find out is Holden's favorite book. It's also more literal in that we see wind turbines on the Holden's property which are the modern equivalent of windmills.
