I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and I really appreciate the honest/constructive review!
Where can I buy
@@johnnygarcia7269 Digitally on all the console stores, Steam, GOG etc. Physically it depends on location, but most regions should have a retailer that stocks it.
ok, be honest, *how* much of your soul did you sell to the devil for the skills to make *this* on your own?
toby fox even needed help with the art. you're practically game dev hercules
@@2-Way_Intersection Lol, to be fair I didn't do everything either, the music and 2D character art for example.
@@DinosaurBytesdont be so humble man this is your baby
Let me tell ya something; making 2D artwork, 3D models, animation, composing music, AND building a cohesive world almost all by yourself is no easy feat. You have to have some next level passion for your idea to put the time and effort into making it work. Even remotely, because the slightest recognition goes a long way. Absolute banger review for an absolute banger of a passion project
"It's up to Clive, and his monkey Wrench"
OH I GET IT!
"Nah, mate, that's a Crash Twinsanity reference."
And on that note, I officially NEED this game. Lol!
I almost choked on my candy when I laughed at "Spiral 2: Trouble With The Trolley, Eh?" XD That reference was golden.
This looks like a fun game despite its flaws and sudden difficult spike (the latter will be a problem for later). I need to check it out on PS4 and/or Steam. Thanks for sharing your review of this game! I'd probably have missed it otherwise 'cause this is first time I ever saw it.
god damn he goes to absolute town on that poor chimp when hovering
little fella gets F L U N G
Dang can tell this was a labor of love and passion project. Looks decent and fun too boot. All by one guy?! Yea I’ll throw my bucks to support it and check it out at some point.
I thought _Yooka-Laylee_ was good, but wow does this blow it out of the water. The perfect successor to the bear and bird. I'm so glad you had fun with it.
Not only that, but Trowzer the snake also makes a cameo appearance in the game's swamp/casino level :3
Is it really better than it, though? I'm genuinely curious. Because while it is already admirable that one guy did everything except stuff like promo art, having him beat out *SEASONED VETERANS* who previously made one of the most beloved 3D Platformer franchises of all time is an insane achievement.
@@RoseSupreme i would not say better, i mean it's good, your arsenal of jump and stuff is great.
But compare to Banjo&Kazooie, most level are big and empty with a lot of thing to collect.
It's not like Banjo&Tooie either so a different experience with good way of handling it on the gameplay.
Also i think the game doesn't have really good joke, but that's my personnal opinion.
(I 100% the game so it's good, but not amazing)
@@RoseSupreme I would say this is definitely MUCH better than Yooka and Laylee, and majority of people agree that the game wasn't very good at all
Eventho it's done by legendary people, it wasn't fun to play due to how they went about collecting, platforming and level design, even the character design isn't great
What was great tho was their 2ND game, which was a 2D platformer similar to Donkey Kong Country, I would recommend playing that instead of their first mess of a game
I’m the opposite, I loved Banjo Kazooie but I hated Yooka Laylee. It just felt so soulless and bland.
Whats better then Go to sleep and there is a new SEJ Video. Thanks for doing this stuff Bro.
I think no matter the result, if you spend 8 years working on a project you ought to be proud of yourself just for the work you've done! Also, nice video jack, like seeing some nice campy reviews.
This game is a weird one for me- on one hand i have encountered game breaking bugs on 2 occasions, one where i was unable to collect a clock in the ice boss level and one where a collectible permanently disappeared from a safe before i could collect it just became i was forced to exit the level before i picked it up. I also wish Clive himself had a bit more personality. That being said, this game is a lot of fun to play- it really is like going back in time and playing a very early N64 or PS1 platformer. Despite its flaws, I can just turn it on, zone out and have a really fun time with it. Rob should be proud at what he's achieved, and shame on some of the reviewers who have been quite nasty with their reviews- i'm all for constructive criticism, but the attitude some reviewers took was brutal
honestly, I always get the impression that reviews review things more harshly if they star animals, which is a shame because animla characters just offer so much more charm than humans do. I mean, I've seen so many bunny characters, but it amazes me how most of them manage to stand out in their own little way, especially compared to all the generic anime characters that all use similar artstyles.
I managed to get Clive N Wrench early on PS5. Genuinely amazing 3D platformer, and well worth the wait. I honestly don't understand why is received so much criticism at launch.
To a lot of critics, anything "furry" gets criticized more harshly.
If you still have a 3D platformer itch to scratch, one I picked up recently is Hell Pie. It has a load of that 90s crude and edgy humour but it has its charm. Good music, fun and interesting levels, nice floaty platforming and a dumb but fun story. I'd love to hear your thoughts if you're interested
The fact that one guy made a game more polished than modern AAA games is crazy
6:41 Wait is that Trauzer from Yooka Laylee?
Another explorer of the multiverse i see.
I remember catching wind of the game back in 2016 and was intrigued by the idea since I've been wanting to see a 3D Platformer mascot revival for so long now and I figured that the best chance at seeing this happen would be in the Indie scene of game making and boy howdy, I'm so glad Rob never let go of his dream to complete the game and the fact that he made all of that all by himself? As someone who wants to create his own 3D Platformer some day (seriously I've got my main character all drawn out but I still have a long way to go with fleshing out his world and friends LOL), this end result despite the glitches is just truly inspiring to me.
I have yet to play the game and I don't want to spoil myself so I skipped the spoilers but overall I think that you (along with Nitro Rad) were the best reviewers to critique these games what with the experience you have with 3D platformers and I'm glad that despite the few hiccups, you still enjoyed the game because from what I've seen, it does look like a lot of fun and does capture that 3D Platforming era of the late 90s/early 2000s .Anyway great review as always~
Seeing how much more you're uploading is so amazing, man. I'm glad you're finding the time and motivation to do these videos. They really are so well done.
Great review my brother! 🔥❤
EDIT: I got REALLY excited when you revealed it came with a manual
There was Ice christmas level with DInosaurs in Spyro 2, and also in ice age games of course
And as with any good video game staring cute cartoon animals
It is made up of 99% puns.
As a new follower of the renaissance of Kao the Kangaroo, I've been wondering about this new platformer
Pretty sure that the airplane dogfight is a reference to the dogfight level from Sly Cooper 3.
Congratulations, square Eyed Jak you’re officially confirmed the PlayStation 5.
That awesome to hear Jak I check this game out for sure
I had no idea this existed, awesome!
2011, minecraft becomes super popular
What was i doing? Playing Minecraft
It is cool to see yourself on a playstation games credits tho
Wow, it feels like a awesome hybrid of Banjo Kazooie and Crash Banticoot.
I agree with that
It's much better than that new LOTR game. Very good for 1 person!
To put a game in your cv is pretty impressive. So yeah I'll agree. Games are so hard to make now so a solid A for effort
Been looking forward to this one for a while but I held off after the mixed reaction upon release. Glad to have your opinion! Definitely still want to try it even if it seems rough on some spots, looking at the footage here such as the menus that you pointed out shows care and attention to detail. Not to mention the respect that I have for Rob for taking on this project all by himself.
Any chance for another WWE tutorial? 😂
Edit: In all seriousness mate, great review. Glad to see Clive 'N' Wrench getting the promotion it deserves

This part right here reminds me a bit of Stormy Ascent from the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. And to be honest, I’m quite interested in this game now that I’m seeing this review. This will definitely be a must buy for me once I do finally get around to purchasing a PS5. But yeah, from what I have watched so far, this has been a great review and I’ll definitely have to look into those development videos at some point in time.
Keep up the great work mate, and I can’t wait to see what you have next in your review line! 😉👍
Game is on PS4, Steam and all other platforms so why wait? Grab it now!
@@SquareEyedJakOh shit!!! 😲
I honestly thought it was like a next-gen exclusive game at first! Well, looks like I’m in luck…😀
I do feel like we’re slowly getting to that point though, so I should probably get a PS5 sometime here soon. (Once I have the money of course 🤣)
new intro is great!
Yeah this looks like a budget platformer from 2011
Still better than that LOTR Gollum game.
@@mver191 debatable
Definitely will be grabbing this
The cutscenes looked...Not great, but in game, this seems like a pretty cool game!
I've encountered a weird glitch in this game. I was having trouble with the Baroness boss fight and decided to give a shot the next day. When I returned the next day the boss was beaten. I'm not sure why but I'll take it.
Have they fixed up the jank and issues? I got the collector edition on switch but it doesn’t play that well :(
Well, there's Eric Barone of Stardew Valley, & now Haunted Chocolatier fame. He does those on his own.
Not that it's not impressive or anything, those are 2D pixel art games. Which while not necessarily easy to do, is still easier than making 3D platformer solo I'd imagine. Usually there's full teams for a game like this, but it's not about who's a better developer anyway. Anyone who can make a quality game all by themselves is immensely impressive overall
Considering that there might finally be a new Banjo game coming soon, or a remake of sorts, Clive "N" Wrench is honestly the next best thing close to it, Rob should be proud of what he's accomplished in the 10 years he spent developing the game, it's not perfect of course, hell neither is the original Yooka-Laylee, but for a one man developed game it's still worth playing, anyway another good video from you dude cheers.
...Where did you hear that Banjo was getting a new game?
@@baalfgames5318 old news, but Modern Vintage Gamer leaked something last year, turned out to be for nothing tho, as another year has gone with no new Banjo-Kazooie stuff, tho Toys for Bob have said that they might be keen to resurrect the franchise once the deal with Activision Blizzard and Microsoft closes soon.
@eternalsword1999 I like Toys for bob but I dont want them to ruin the artstyle and comedy
Wow, this is an interesting review and game and wow, Rob did this game by himself? I'm impressed.
Maybe I'll try this game out.
Oh it’s really fun😊
I have to ask, what did you think of the Mantis boss fight and what was your initial reaction?
Cause I was utterly shocked and now I find it utterly hilarious!
Loved it, definitely was a challenge the first time but once I figured out the pattern it was actually better put together than some of the others
@@SquareEyedJak I agree 100%!
On an unrealated note, have you played Cuphead? If so, can we expect a review sometime in the future? Cuz I'd love to hear your opinion on it.
Happy Pride Month Jak!
And yes do Ratchet and Clank review series 😂😂
It would be nice if Jak would do a review on A Hat In Time.
A year later got the game since this video been out
Hey, Jak. If you liked this game, I'd also like to recommend another platformer game that takes inspiration from the classics.
But instead of Banjo-Kazooie, it's nothin' but Conker's Bad Fur Day raunch and crudeness! It's called Hell Pie, where you play as a demon with a cherub partner and need to work together to make the most disgusting pie for Satan's birthday! Only a pie that's as nasty as he is will do XD
Good video
Yay you know!❤
Where do you make these custom logos based on logos of the games you review?
Jak makes them himself.
Pro-ject... Project... Pro-ject... Project
Wait how is Trowser from Yooka Laylee in here? Lol
I guess no port on Xbox One... bummer. Will play this at some point in the future though.
I've been playing this game on and off for a bit now. It's a fun game, Albeit the controls are a bit baffling (attack is circle...okay that's weird
Someone never played Spyro.
Or Gta.
(Yeah, you're right though. Square is better.)
@@WH250398well, square was also an attack in Spyro
Is this better than SpongeBob cosmic shake?
STEALY WHEELY AUTOMOBILEY XD
Can you review perfect dark?
Already did years ago, check it out!

@@SquareEyedJak cool custom logo's
no xbox port? what a shame
Nah, I just got the platinum last week and for me its just somewere between 3 or 4.
May be the age of platformers end with A Hat in Time.
Had similar issues. Ragdolls like that and glitches aren't funny or reassuring. It's not Regina and Mac it was more empty and unfinished (Wii U version was just the Gamepad no TV output at all so thats also hilarious design). It's a better comparison for Indies that look rough. To me nostalgia and bugs even if a 1 person team doesn't cut it. I respect their efforts, the passion and inspiration are there, 10 years is a long time, but glitches and more even on more powerful platforms & alpha that was better looking then the final product's artstyle. Zera Myths Awaken looks better and it's not even finished. Even Demon Turf is better and no idea about that team.
On Switch is slightly different but seeing similarities even on PS5 doesn't give me much more confidence thinking of hardware limits as believeable or playing Wii games for the past few months and seeing better design even (besides N64/PS1 games (retail, flash games, Net Yuroze the Indies of PS1 those were, or I could say homebrew for various platforms fifth to seventh gen console and handhelds) as early 3D enough) with its limits. Each Developer has their unique design no doubt that's always been the case and engines and hardware differences also matter in why they act weirdly but some Indies have very different design that can be odd but I guess makes sense.
It's a good game in there though just doesn't hold my attention enough so I play it on and off. It's not Kao 2022 even if not as fair comparison as it was a bigger team but also just as broken in areas and my 2022 Indie platformer purchase.
The character models look terrible. But the animation on them is really good. If only the team could make the look better. It's something about the faces and the lack of texture on them
