So true. I was actually lucky enough to read a small handful of the comics, including the one with Malefor returning from the Legend Of Spyro series (BEFORE he was featured in Academy), the one that served as a prequel to SuperChargers that explained how Donkey Kong and Bowser ended up joining the team... and even one where Roller Brawl, my favourite Skylander out of the lot of 'em, actually had her backstory involving her lost vampire brothers RESOLVED. There was just so much world building and character building in those comics, and yet, they've already fallen into obscurity, only existing as overpriced collectibles in online auctions that only the most hardcore of Skylanders fans will even THINK of seeking out. How sad.
Yeah I've read some of the comics! I don't own a lot of them, most of them I rented from the school library... However, a while ago I ordered a copy of the Skylanders Omnibus on Amazon, which contains all of the official Skylanders comics in 1 bundle! It should arrive once the next fresh print is available, though it's been so long I'm starting to question if it will ever arrive at all...
Okay I feel like I need to speak in defense of the Imaginator figures. They're not completely useless as you say they are. While it is true that they may feel weak at first, but only in their early stages. There is actually 1 insanely awesome thing about the Imaginators that honestly shocked me when I saw it!... You know how your Skylanders can only level up until level 20, and can't go higher than that? (Not even the new Senseis can level up past 20!) Well believe it or not, the Imaginators are the only Skylanders that can actually level up as high as level 50, or possibly higher! That's unbelievable! Just imagine how strong the Imaginators become at that point! Sure it may require a lot of time, effort and grinding to get it all the way up to that level, which is why I recommend only leveling up 1 Imaginator rather than all of them, specifically the one that is your personal favorite and most reliable of all your Imaginators! Anyway, when I leveled up my favorite Imaginator all the way up to level 50, the amount of sheer strength and damage output it dished out was astonishing, far more powerful than any of my other Imaginators (which I haven't leveled up a whole lot), and it was totally worth it! (to me at least) So yeah the Imaginators are not as useless as some may believe, especially if you level them up much higher than the average peak of other Skylanders (which is level 20 once again), and if you choose just the right battle class and versatile moveset that works best for you to go along with your Imaginator's sheer destructiveness, you've got yourself the perfect Imaginator! I don't know about you, but I certainly find it satisfying... or maybe I just play too much Skylanders cause I have way too much free time on my hands. XD
@@SquareEyedJak True, though I do recall you talking about leveling up all of your Skylanders to the max in earlier game reviews, which is a little above casual if you ask me. But of course there's no such thing as a 1 of a kind gamer, and we all have our own ways of playing games.
Also as you play and complete the imaginator parts, you'll start to get duplicate parts which strengthen that part's stats. These Imaginator stats are essentially limitless, but that only really works if you have all the figures and keep playing the game collecting the same pieces until you've well and truly past completed everything.
Hmmmmmm but I feel like you'd complete the game before reaching that stage of level (considering, if you're actually good at the game and can beat the levels first try)
I'm glad to hear that you gave a good fair critique of the game, describing its flaws in an extensive yet reasonable fashion, while at the same time pointing out and acknowledging the game's positive elements as well, without too much personal bias or nostalgia clouding your judgement on either side. At first I was afraid that you were just gonna flat out s**t on the game, like just about everybody in the comments of the previous review did! (and some in this comment section too) But it's good to know that you at least gave the game a fair trial before declaring it guilty.
So! Fun fact about the skylanders figures: They were ALL hand painted. Which is definitely the reason for the higher price on them overall, but it's such a neat thing I think
I do have to disagree on your opinion about the Imaginators. I thought they were super fun, and typically found them to be actually way stronger than the other characters, and overall just WAY more fun. But I have to respect your opinion as well. Can't all be winners!
Nathaniel Foga Not really. A different developer made the Crash level. Due to constantly changing engines, to make each game backwards compatible with older Skylanders, most of development was based around manually re-creating each Skylander. They didn’t even do that well most of them play terribly compared to the original, and all are underpowered
Well for being underpowered, a few are ridiculously overpowered. Like Jawbreaker, who can punch at Mach Speeds (how fast you can mash the button). Same with Trigger Happy and his variants
Not going to lie but think as much as we want 7(13 if counting 3ds, racing and ring of heroes) or a remake, imaginators (ring of heroes- including mobile games) was last one😔 older fans are happy to have crash & spyro back (which eludes me to an extent, since the games didn't stop with CTR and spyro year of the dragon but feels like everyone ignores WOC/ETD upwards and geniunally would like someone to explain that to me to help me understand) Parents are more likely to be happier spending £35-£60 on a game as opposed to a couple hundred The Crash n sane trilogy, spyro reignited trilogy and CTR nitro fueled remakes all sold well with positive reception from all ages Plus with crash 4: it's about time due for release and a new spyro 4 probably going to be announced sooner or later, both serving as continuations of these new more profitable series, Activision would realistically prefer to focus on these franchises than one that profits were starting to decline in late 2013 and 2014 Hope I'm wrong and that something is coming soon, maybe in 2021 being 10 years anniversary but being honest think the 12 games currently out/ still available(including 3ds version+ supercharger racing+ ring of heroes) is all there's going to be skylanders wise. Guess time will tell though🤞🤞🤞

As soon as I saw the trailers and gameplay, I just knew this game was the nail in the coffin for Skylanders. As a game that revolves around creativity, it's ironically very uncreative and bland. Which sucks, since the previous games oozed with child like wonder and creativity.
Just finished watching each of your reviews on the six skylanders games and honestly, I'm genuinely surprised how much you did this franchise justice. The games are really good (mostly) whilst having flaws, the most obvious being the business model, and I think you managed to outline the pros and cons really well. You've earned yourself a new sub!
Glad you enjoyed them, definitely one series I liked covering. Still got the 3DS games to go sometime in the future but I need a break for a little while.

I honestly bought this game for the crash bandicoot content , while that's mainly just it , from what I've played in the main game it seemed kind of fun with the customizable skylanders .
I'm honestly surprised that you never once mentioned the Eon's Elite figures in any of your Skylanders reviews! Sure they're basically re-releases of older characters, but they're obviously the most powerful of all Skylanders figures, and I'd say having at least 1 Elite Skylander is a good idea, especially if you wanna play on the hardest difficulty, and have at least 1 ultimate heavy-hitter to bring out when you really need it! Quote from Spongebob, "This looks like a job for Ol' Reliable!" However I don't recommend collecting all of the Elites, cause they're expensive as heck! (Though nowadays you might be able to find a cheap used one on eBay or something) But I'd say it's good to have at least 1 Elite, just in case. Do you have any Elite Skylanders Jak? If not, then if I had to recommend a specific one for you, I'd say either get Elite Spyro because he has a bright shiny purple paintjob that gives off some Classic Spyro vibes (don't believe me? Just look at it!), or if you want a Skylander that really packs a punch, then I highly recommend Elite Stealth Elf, who is arguably the most overpowered of all Elites, cause she rips and tears through all enemies like the Doomslayer in Hell!
@@red_back5382 Eon's Elite are the most powerful of all Skylanders, at least 3 times stronger than any other Skylander! (But also 3 times more expensive!) They look like older figures from Spyro's Adventure, except they have a new metallic shiny coat of paint, and a golden base. Not to mention the bottoms of the base are clear or transparent, instead of green/orange/blue/red like the others. There's also a 2nd wave of Eon's Elite when Superchargers came out, which were mostly the same, except the figures had new physical enhancements to their weapons that look even cooler than their past counterparts! The only thing that really bugged me about the 2nd wave of Eon's Elite, was that there was no Fire or Air Elite Skylander, which was kinda disappointing, and a hugely missed opportunity to bring back Sunburn, and maybe also Lightning Rod, which only makes sense considering that one of the levels in Superchargers was Lightning Rod's home world!

This game just felt so half-hearted, both as a series finale AND as a follow-up to SuperChargers. The gimmick of creating your own Skylanders is cool, but that's really all this game's got going for it. A lot of people assume that the inclusion of Crash Bandicoot was just a marketing ploy on Activision's part, but he and Cortex, along with the Thumpin' Wumpa Islands level, really do carry this game on their shoulders... for better and worse. A sad end to a franchise that still had a LOT of potential in my eyes, so much so that I'm trying even now to keep that potential going in the form of Skylanders fan fiction. Pathetic, I know, but what can I say? I jumped into this franchise at launch with cautious optimism while everyone else was quick to shoot it down just for having the 'nerve' to include Spyro, and I felt that it was able to deliver the goods more often than not. Giants, Swap Force and SuperChargers are definitely the highlights of the series, but the other games, even at their worst, have their good points as well, and all the extended universe stuff like the comics, novels and Netflix series did a lot to flesh out the world and characters. It's honestly a shame that we never got a Skylanders movie, because I think it could be done, and done well at that. We've seen from the likes of Detective Pikachu and Sonic The Hedgehog that video game movies don't always have to be doom and gloom. Hell, I'd argue that even the Ratchet & Clank movie was better than it had any right to be, but I know I'm in the minority in that regard. In any case, I remain hopeful that our little plastic/digital hybrid heroes will find a way to start making the rounds again in some form during my lifetime, regardless of whether or not Spyro and Crash are still on the team.

I completely agree, I think thats the exact reason I'm going to play Imaginators before Superchargers, just because Supercharges feels like a worthy finale / cliffhanger / whatever to be left on. If they ever do pick Skylanders back up on its feet, I feel instead of making a new gimmick, they should just utilize the older gimmicks of the past games.
My rewrite of this game makes it not only a worthy follow up to superchargers but a FANTASTIC finale that explores the existential horrors of beings created by mind magic/creation crystals, the fall of the arkeyan empire from giants told through the arkeyan POV, and even moral greys through Eon’s master nattybumpo (yes he is an actual obscure skylander character look him up)
Sadly, Activision is the source of the problems in Skylanders, especially since they rushed multiple teams so that a Skylanders game could be released on a yearly basis. However saying the series is completely dead is only half right... yes, it's not the main focus as of now for Activision, but they have acknowledged the Skylanders series has a big enough fanbase to not completely abandon it
@@PukeNation Activision always does that when it hits jackpot, but hopefully with that all died down given Skylanders is practically on life support, I'd say we'd have a chance at actually getting a good Skylanders game, a chance that is.
If Skylanders ever does make a return, I'd hope it doesn't fall into the same pitfalls that Imaginators did when it comes to character creation/customization and overall game design. Until then, it's quite a relief that Skylanders is on hiatus, because of the wildly varying quality of the different titles and declining popularity. But ever since the Reignited Trilogy, it'd be difficult putting Spyro back into the Skylanders world, who would the new face of Skylanders be?
I mean they are apprently considered 2 seperate characters so spyro will stick around but the face of skylanders if he is gone? probably stealth elf or eruptor due to the netflix show
Good review and all, but I kinda wish you talked about the fact that you could actually order your own custom-made Imaginator figure based on your own original creation, which at the time was insanely awesome! Although if you didn't buy the game when it first came out, then you probably missed out on that... Anyway, I ordered a custom made figure modelled after an Imaginator that I based on Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank, and when it arrived it looked amazing! I can show it to you if you want! Jak, in the event you play the 5 Skylanders 3DS titles I'd like to give you a huge heads up... They're freaking awesome! They all have a different story and experience from their console counterparts. Skylanders Spyro's Adventure, Giants and Swap Force for 3DS are really fun action platformers with jumping even in SSA and SG, and while Trap Team 3DS is a little underwhelming compared to the amazingness that was Spyro's Adventure and Swap Force 3DS. Superchargers is just a standalone racing title on 3DS however, but it isn't absolutely horrible. My favorite Skylanders title of legit all the console and 3DS games together is Spyro's Adventure 3DS as I think it's the funnest and it was my first game in the franchise so I'm biased to it, plus it captures the magic feel of the original 2 games exceptionally well.
I haven't watched the video yet, because I need to sleep, but I want to tell you that there is a Skylanders Racing game. In the last video you said that it is sad that there they didn't made a pure racing game.... but they did. Edit: Now I have watched the video and now I just assume that he knows it and waits for another video to talk about it.
Did you Know? the Crash Bandicoot expansion level, “Thumpin’ Wumpa Islands” was NOT developed by Toys for Bob, but actually Vicarious Visions, the same people that did the GBA Crash games, “Crash Nitro Kart”, the “N. Sane Trilogy” and Swap Force. HELL, they even brought back the voice actors from the Radical era to reprise their respected characters, including Jess Harnell as Crash, Greg Eagles as Aku Aku and Lex Lang himself as Dr. Neo Cortex! And that’s how you should do a 20th Anniversary celebration of our favourite marsupial!
If you have a bunch of Senseis, you can actually level up you Imaginators to a point where they're stronger then the Senseis making it almost useless to use them except to unlock Sensei Shrines and Elemental Realms.
Well, actually using the strong Imaginators makes the game incredibly easy even on Nightmare Mode. So you could still use the Senseis if you want more of a challenge. (Also, all the old figures from the previous games are nerfed making them weaker the they were before.)
Nobody says it's the end of the series, perhaps activision takes her time to work on a new and improved skylanders game that they will put more effort to. The fact that there wasn't a skylanders game released on the last year doesn't mean they haven't been working on one. There were even corrupted files of what seems to be part of skylanders 7 on the Crash Bandicoot N. sane Trilogy, perhaps is kind of an easter egg or something.

I really enjoyed seeing your honest and fair review of this game. I felt that this game had a lot of potential when I first saw the trailer, but soon after I played it on Switch, I didn’t felt the exact same feeling of awe and excitement as the previous games. Even with the great things that Imaginators bring, ultimately, it ended up being underwhelming for me. Awesome video.

Yeah! I remember that E3 2016. I was pretty happy that Crash Bandicoot finally making a comeback. I once hated Activision for not doing anything with Crash, but they gradually, they regained my interest!

Now As a slightly hardcore skylanders collector Who has every skylander ever created (except chase figures and reposes, I’m not that crazy) including the outragusly rare yawn traps Want to know why I hate imaginators the worst out of the whole series? THE FACT THEY STOPPED MAKING FIGURES BEFORE FINISHING THE COLLECTION!! Multiple creation crystals where never released, making it completely impossible to complete your collection, and one of the dlc packs imaginatior mines with rowbow was impossible to find depending on location, luckily I know people so got the only pack after DRIVING FOR 30 MINS because everywhere else did not get any or got 1 or 2 before selling out instantly and being put on eBay for hundreds Would love to sue activision for that stunt but know nothing on how to pull it off,
Oh and depending on location some where impossible to get without trading oversea’s which is risky business Out of fear of being scammed, but my few trades went off without any problems Traded light and dark expansion passes for all mini figures of every element (wind/fire/life and water where not available in my area or in England) NIB And chase high volt + normal high volt for gold and silver mario amiibo’s Gotta say the skylanders community was the best community I was ever apart of Good greef I miss it

Imagine if Crash's appearance in Skylanders was meant to bring interest in a Crash Bandicoot Spin off show, set soley in Crash's world with writing as good as Sonic Boom
What about all the other expansion levels? Like the Griffon Park Observatory, Enchanted Elven Forest, Cursed Tiki Temple, and Lost Imaginite Mines? Sure they're not as great as the Crash Bandicoot level, but at least they expand the short adventure by a few good levels, and they arguably have more variety than most of the main levels in the game. Though rather if they're all worth buying or not is debatable... I personally enjoyed the Enchanted Elven Forest level, mainly because it was Stealth Elf's home village and playing an elf themed level just felt nice and appealing to me for some reason. Not to mention it felt more atmospheric and less bland than a lot of other levels in the game. But that's just me.
Cursed Tiki Temple is hands down the most fleshed out and complete experience of a level in any of the 6 Skylanders titles in my opinion, hands down. Gryphon Park and Imaginite Mines are great too, and the Elven Forest was meh in my opinion, but Cursed Tiki Temple is just so perfect.
Good luck trying to get someone to review those, 50$-120$ just for the dang figures. All else aside though, I like the Lost Mines level, there was a reference to the older games. Ro-Bow happens to be a favorite sensei too, so it’s a bit convenient. Cursed Tiki Temple was another favorite of mine, Wild Storm is a very cool looking Skylander that happens to be another favorite.
@@Mfenton10 Well since the Skylanders are no longer selling, they shouldn't be as expensive as they originally were, especially if you buy a used one off of eBay or something. Also while the Griffon Park Observatory and Enchanted Elven Forest both had their own physical expansion figures, but the other 3 expansion levels don't require their own individual figure, they're automatically unlocked once Crash, Ro-Bow and Wildstorm join the game! I think this was a smart decision, since the expansion level figures don't serve much purpose after they've been scanned once. They don't even make it rain havoc on enemies like the older ones do! So the extra level figures are pretty much useless, and a waste of money. While Imaginators has made quite a few bad business decisions, but having expansion packs without physical level figures was actually a good one!

23:52 You still need the Toy Trophies to unlock The Playable boss fights vehicles and mirrored tracks but the mode is Removed altogether from the Switch version probably because activision was begin cheap and wanted to use a smaller size memory switch cart.
@Alezander2002 It also works properly online unlike it did in Superchargers. Superchargers every player online needed a vehicle for that race and a toy trophy to play them online. This meant 99% the time you could only play the two land racing tracks every starter pack came with online.
I originally bought the Dark Edition for Xbox360, but eventually I also bought the Nintendo Switch version because it went on a huge discount via supply and demand! Sure it was the same game, but being able to play Skylanders on the go (in a much higher quality than the 3DS versions) was a great novelty! Also it gave me the chance to finally play as Bowser and Donkey Kong in the game, which I wasn't able to do before, at least not outside of the 3DS Superchargers Racing game, which didn't fully satisfy me. Anyway, the first thing I did was play the Thumpa Wumpin Islands levels with my Bowser and Donkey Kong figures. Can you think of any other game where you can legitimately play as Donkey Kong inside a Crash Bandicoot world/level? You can't tell me that ain't awesome!
@@ShinMajin Yeah I'll admit having to scroll through all the characters 1 by 1 can be a pain in the arse. That's why I only scanned all of my Sensei's, Imaginators, and Elites into the game (plus a single Giant, Bowser & Donkey Kong, and Blastermind in case of lock puzzles) and that's it. I also arranged the order I scanned them in so my most used Skylanders are closer to the front, so I don't have to scroll as much.
My eyes rolled so hard at the mention of lootboxes. Why did they need to do that, you're already buying all these stupid figures on top of the game itself and they expected you to do lootboxes as well? That's so damn unbelievably sleazy and they aren't even subtle about it. If it weren't for the addition of Crash and Cortex this one would've flopped right out the gate, and Activision very much knew that.
Even with Crash and Cortex, I think it still flopped out of the gate. Especially when Activision was sending out massive care packages of Skylanders figures to a bunch of CZcamsrs as marketing. Literally 100's of dollars worth of gear.
@@Mfenton10 In most games you can get all the lootboxes for free, but they make it so you either grind mindlessly for hours just for the mere *chance* to get something worth your time, or cut the waiting and shell out for them. It's designed to really test your patience until it breaks you into just buying them instead, and they're really banking on that happening. And that's without even getting into why the lootboxes themselves are so shitty but I'd be here all day..
Duddridge1 The Imaginite Chests are actually VERY easy to get anyway. That is, if you take the time to find all of the collectibles in each level. Even that (assuming if you played a Skylanders game before), the treasures in this one are easier to find than in other games. With the addition of no more elemental gates in levels, it’s possible to find every treasure chest and collectible with just using the starter pack characters. (All the element levels aren’t that great, getting you only a maximum of 2-3 chests per level play through, if you discover all the secrets.) For example, playing a new level and doing all the requirements to get all 3 stars gets you 3 chests. There’s another 1 or 2 chests depending if the level has 1 or 2 bosses. There’s one Egg Crane minigame you can complete for 1 chest and another chest can be obtained by completing a Skystones match. And there should be around 3-5 hidden chests throughout the level. For time, it’s only a maximum of 45 minutes to find all the collectibles. If you know what you’re doing and know the exact locations, it’ll end up in 20 or so minutes. Again, Imaginator parts aren’t really that useful anyways. While playing the game awhile could result in you obtaining a highly broken Skylander, the Senseis are fine as they are. (King Pen has great damage, Golden Queen can turn enemies into Gold for freezing and giving you...well more Gold, Ro-Bow is best at ranged combat and medium-sized enemies can never touch you, Crash is good at throwing loads of crates, even if he has the lowest health of any Skylander.) But that’s my honest opinion, playing this game for at least part of my lifetime and beating Nightmare mode 100%. If you really want a broken Skylander, sure, waste your time grinding, but again, the Senseis are fine themselves and there is NO NEED to waste money on this shit.
I agree that the Crash level and Characters is the best thing about this game. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that it was Vicarious Visions who developed these from the ground up while Toys for Bob made the main game and characters. For context, Vicarious Visions also developed SWAP Force, SuperChargers and the N Sane Trilogy.
Everybody is asking Jak to review the 3DS Skylanders games, and while I'm on board with that, there is much more to the Skylanders series than just those. I don't know about you, but I'd like to see Jak review the Skylanders Academy Netflix Series! That would certainly be interesting. Not only that, but I'd also like to see him review the Skylanders mobile games, including Lost Islands, Battlegrounds, Cloud Patrol, Battlecast, and of course Ring Of Heroes! Although if Jak isn't really into reviewing mobile apps, then maybe he could try something a little different. I'd like to see him read the Skylanders Comic Books, and maybe even the books/novels! In fact, what if Jak were to make a video of him casually reading the Skylanders books, while he sits in a comfy chair by a fireplace, wearing a housecoat with a fake pipe in his mouth, basically acting like a sophisticated novelist or something. XD I know he's a gamer, but it wouldn't hurt to try something new every once in a while. What do you think Jak?

@@samuelgraham270 Well I think there is a way to download the older mobile games. Old apps that are no longer available on the official app stores are usually found on 3rd party archive sites. I know it may sound kinda like pirating, but I don't think it really qualifies as piracy if the apps were discontinued and no longer being sold. In a way, it's not much different from buying old games and consoles from one of those retro video game stores that sell old pre-used games that were discontinued long ago. In a way, downloading old discontinued mobile apps from archive sites is like the digital/mobile equivalent of the example I previously mentioned.
The Imaginators are the best part of the game, and the Brain is great. But the levels just drag. A lot. Reminds me of Swap Force, but at least it had some notable charm, character-wise. Imaginators just kinda blurs into a lot of grey.
tbh it would've been cool if Skylanders had more in-depth combat. Something similar to Bayonetta or Devil May Cry where dodging and knowing when to dodge and knowing what combo does what is integral to surviving. (of course it'd be a more simplified version of those games so kids don't suck at it)
For me, Skylanders Imaginators is my favorite video game of all time. So I was very curious when I saw this video recommended to me. While I do agree with some of your points about the game, there is some stuff you said that I also disagree with too. It's interesting hearing from someone else's point of view since for the longest time, I thought it was this perfect game. But after hearing some of your points about it. I do have to agree that it's defanently not perfect. It has it's flaws for sure. But for me, I didn't really care all that much since I was just having a blast playing as these new characters I've created. Overall, great job with this video, you got some giggles and laughs out of me and I can't wait to see what other stuff you create!!!
I love Jak's disregard for the Imaginator Sensei's and whatever the fuck else is on the table. When he takes out the Skylanders box and messes everything else up on the table, the Wii is still there lol
If there's ever going to be a new skylanders game (there probably isn't) I'd love it to be something like an open world type game where also every skylander you've previously collected is useful in some way.
5/10!? Wow, that's actually higher than I thought it would be. But anyway yeah, I was ok with Imaginators but ultimately it was a just a big disappointment. It had every reason to be good with the Sensei and Imaginator Skylanders but it just crashed and burned in the end with the substandard story and gameplay that was... passable when compared to the previous games.

So true. I was actually lucky enough to read a small handful of the comics, including the one with Malefor returning from the Legend Of Spyro series (BEFORE he was featured in Academy), the one that served as a prequel to SuperChargers that explained how Donkey Kong and Bowser ended up joining the team... and even one where Roller Brawl, my favourite Skylander out of the lot of 'em, actually had her backstory involving her lost vampire brothers RESOLVED. There was just so much world building and character building in those comics, and yet, they've already fallen into obscurity, only existing as overpriced collectibles in online auctions that only the most hardcore of Skylanders fans will even THINK of seeking out. How sad.

Yeah I've read some of the comics! I don't own a lot of them, most of them I rented from the school library... However, a while ago I ordered a copy of the Skylanders Omnibus on Amazon, which contains all of the official Skylanders comics in 1 bundle! It should arrive once the next fresh print is available, though it's been so long I'm starting to question if it will ever arrive at all...

Okay I feel like I need to speak in defense of the Imaginator figures. They're not completely useless as you say they are. While it is true that they may feel weak at first, but only in their early stages. There is actually 1 insanely awesome thing about the Imaginators that honestly shocked me when I saw it!... You know how your Skylanders can only level up until level 20, and can't go higher than that? (Not even the new Senseis can level up past 20!) Well believe it or not, the Imaginators are the only Skylanders that can actually level up as high as level 50, or possibly higher! That's unbelievable! Just imagine how strong the Imaginators become at that point! Sure it may require a lot of time, effort and grinding to get it all the way up to that level, which is why I recommend only leveling up 1 Imaginator rather than all of them, specifically the one that is your personal favorite and most reliable of all your Imaginators! Anyway, when I leveled up my favorite Imaginator all the way up to level 50, the amount of sheer strength and damage output it dished out was astonishing, far more powerful than any of my other Imaginators (which I haven't leveled up a whole lot), and it was totally worth it! (to me at least) So yeah the Imaginators are not as useless as some may believe, especially if you level them up much higher than the average peak of other Skylanders (which is level 20 once again), and if you choose just the right battle class and versatile moveset that works best for you to go along with your Imaginator's sheer destructiveness, you've got yourself the perfect Imaginator! I don't know about you, but I certainly find it satisfying... or maybe I just play too much Skylanders cause I have way too much free time on my hands. XD

@@SquareEyedJak True, though I do recall you talking about leveling up all of your Skylanders to the max in earlier game reviews, which is a little above casual if you ask me. But of course there's no such thing as a 1 of a kind gamer, and we all have our own ways of playing games.
Also as you play and complete the imaginator parts, you'll start to get duplicate parts which strengthen that part's stats. These Imaginator stats are essentially limitless, but that only really works if you have all the figures and keep playing the game collecting the same pieces until you've well and truly past completed everything.
Hmmmmmm but I feel like you'd complete the game before reaching that stage of level (considering, if you're actually good at the game and can beat the levels first try)

Due to constantly changing engines, to make each game backwards compatible with older Skylanders, most of development was based around manually re-creating each Skylander. They didn’t even do that well most of them play terribly compared to the original, and all are underpowered

The Crash n sane trilogy, spyro reignited trilogy and CTR nitro fueled remakes all sold well with positive reception from all ages
Plus with crash 4: it's about time due for release and a new spyro 4 probably going to be announced sooner or later, both serving as continuations of these new more profitable series, Activision would realistically prefer to focus on these franchises than one that profits were starting to decline in late 2013 and 2014
Hope I'm wrong and that something is coming soon, maybe in 2021 being 10 years anniversary but being honest think the 12 games currently out/ still available(including 3ds version+ supercharger racing+ ring of heroes) is all there's going to be skylanders wise. Guess time will tell though🤞🤞🤞

Just finished watching each of your reviews on the six skylanders games and honestly, I'm genuinely surprised how much you did this franchise justice. The games are really good (mostly) whilst having flaws, the most obvious being the business model, and I think you managed to outline the pros and cons really well. You've earned yourself a new sub!

I honestly bought this game for the crash bandicoot content , while that's mainly just it , from what I've played in the main game it seemed kind of fun with the customizable skylanders .
I'm honestly surprised that you never once mentioned the Eon's Elite figures in any of your Skylanders reviews! Sure they're basically re-releases of older characters, but they're obviously the most powerful of all Skylanders figures, and I'd say having at least 1 Elite Skylander is a good idea, especially if you wanna play on the hardest difficulty, and have at least 1 ultimate heavy-hitter to bring out when you really need it! Quote from Spongebob, "This looks like a job for Ol' Reliable!"
However I don't recommend collecting all of the Elites, cause they're expensive as heck! (Though nowadays you might be able to find a cheap used one on eBay or something) But I'd say it's good to have at least 1 Elite, just in case.
Do you have any Elite Skylanders Jak? If not, then if I had to recommend a specific one for you, I'd say either get Elite Spyro because he has a bright shiny purple paintjob that gives off some Classic Spyro vibes (don't believe me? Just look at it!), or if you want a Skylander that really packs a punch, then I highly recommend Elite Stealth Elf, who is arguably the most overpowered of all Elites, cause she rips and tears through all enemies like the Doomslayer in Hell!

@@red_back5382 Eon's Elite are the most powerful of all Skylanders, at least 3 times stronger than any other Skylander! (But also 3 times more expensive!) They look like older figures from Spyro's Adventure, except they have a new metallic shiny coat of paint, and a golden base. Not to mention the bottoms of the base are clear or transparent, instead of green/orange/blue/red like the others. There's also a 2nd wave of Eon's Elite when Superchargers came out, which were mostly the same, except the figures had new physical enhancements to their weapons that look even cooler than their past counterparts! The only thing that really bugged me about the 2nd wave of Eon's Elite, was that there was no Fire or Air Elite Skylander, which was kinda disappointing, and a hugely missed opportunity to bring back Sunburn, and maybe also Lightning Rod, which only makes sense considering that one of the levels in Superchargers was Lightning Rod's home world!

This game just felt so half-hearted, both as a series finale AND as a follow-up to SuperChargers. The gimmick of creating your own Skylanders is cool, but that's really all this game's got going for it. A lot of people assume that the inclusion of Crash Bandicoot was just a marketing ploy on Activision's part, but he and Cortex, along with the Thumpin' Wumpa Islands level, really do carry this game on their shoulders... for better and worse. A sad end to a franchise that still had a LOT of potential in my eyes, so much so that I'm trying even now to keep that potential going in the form of Skylanders fan fiction. Pathetic, I know, but what can I say? I jumped into this franchise at launch with cautious optimism while everyone else was quick to shoot it down just for having the 'nerve' to include Spyro, and I felt that it was able to deliver the goods more often than not. Giants, Swap Force and SuperChargers are definitely the highlights of the series, but the other games, even at their worst, have their good points as well, and all the extended universe stuff like the comics, novels and Netflix series did a lot to flesh out the world and characters. It's honestly a shame that we never got a Skylanders movie, because I think it could be done, and done well at that. We've seen from the likes of Detective Pikachu and Sonic The Hedgehog that video game movies don't always have to be doom and gloom. Hell, I'd argue that even the Ratchet & Clank movie was better than it had any right to be, but I know I'm in the minority in that regard. In any case, I remain hopeful that our little plastic/digital hybrid heroes will find a way to start making the rounds again in some form during my lifetime, regardless of whether or not Spyro and Crash are still on the team.

I completely agree, I think thats the exact reason I'm going to play Imaginators before Superchargers, just because Supercharges feels like a worthy finale / cliffhanger / whatever to be left on. If they ever do pick Skylanders back up on its feet, I feel instead of making a new gimmick, they should just utilize the older gimmicks of the past games.
My rewrite of this game makes it not only a worthy follow up to superchargers but a FANTASTIC finale that explores the existential horrors of beings created by mind magic/creation crystals, the fall of the arkeyan empire from giants told through the arkeyan POV, and even moral greys through Eon’s master nattybumpo (yes he is an actual obscure skylander character look him up)
Sadly, Activision is the source of the problems in Skylanders, especially since they rushed multiple teams so that a Skylanders game could be released on a yearly basis.
However saying the series is completely dead is only half right... yes, it's not the main focus as of now for Activision, but they have acknowledged the Skylanders series has a big enough fanbase to not completely abandon it

If Skylanders ever does make a return, I'd hope it doesn't fall into the same pitfalls that Imaginators did when it comes to character creation/customization and overall game design.
Until then, it's quite a relief that Skylanders is on hiatus, because of the wildly varying quality of the different titles and declining popularity.
But ever since the Reignited Trilogy, it'd be difficult putting Spyro back into the Skylanders world, who would the new face of Skylanders be?

Good review and all, but I kinda wish you talked about the fact that you could actually order your own custom-made Imaginator figure based on your own original creation, which at the time was insanely awesome! Although if you didn't buy the game when it first came out, then you probably missed out on that... Anyway, I ordered a custom made figure modelled after an Imaginator that I based on Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank, and when it arrived it looked amazing! I can show it to you if you want! I've uploaded pics of it on Deviantart, and I even made a video of me unboxing it years ago, if you're interested in seeing it!
I would love to see it if you're still willing to share the pictures. I missed out as getting my character 3-D modeled which is a huge shame.

Jak, in the event you play the 5 Skylanders 3DS titles I'd like to give you a huge heads up...
They're freaking awesome! They all have a different story and experience from their console counterparts. Skylanders Spyro's Adventure, Giants and Swap Force for 3DS are really fun action platformers with jumping even in SSA and SG, and while Trap Team 3DS is a little underwhelming compared to the amazingness that was Spyro's Adventure and Swap Force 3DS. Superchargers is just a standalone racing title on 3DS however, but it isn't absolutely horrible. My favorite Skylanders title of legit all the console and 3DS games together is Spyro's Adventure 3DS as I think it's the funnest and it was my first game in the franchise so I'm biased to it, plus it captures the magic feel of the original 2 games exceptionally well.

Sane Trilogy” and Swap Force. HELL, they even brought back the voice actors from the Radical era to reprise their respected characters, including Jess Harnell as Crash, Greg Eagles as Aku Aku and Lex Lang himself as Dr. Neo Cortex! And that’s how you should do a 20th Anniversary celebration of our favourite marsupial!

If you have a bunch of Senseis, you can actually level up you Imaginators to a point where they're stronger then the Senseis making it almost useless to use them except to unlock Sensei Shrines and Elemental Realms.
Well, actually using the strong Imaginators makes the game incredibly easy even on Nightmare Mode. So you could still use the Senseis if you want more of a challenge. (Also, all the old figures from the previous games are nerfed making them weaker the they were before.)
Nobody says it's the end of the series, perhaps activision takes her time to work on a new and improved skylanders game that they will put more effort to. The fact that there wasn't a skylanders game released on the last year doesn't mean they haven't been working on one. There were even corrupted files of what seems to be part of skylanders 7 on the Crash Bandicoot N. sane Trilogy, perhaps is kind of an easter egg or something.

I really enjoyed seeing your honest and fair review of this game. I felt that this game had a lot of potential when I first saw the trailer, but soon after I played it on Switch, I didn’t felt the exact same feeling of awe and excitement as the previous games. Even with the great things that Imaginators bring, ultimately, it ended up being underwhelming for me. Awesome video.

Multiple creation crystals where never released, making it completely impossible to complete your collection, and one of the dlc packs imaginatior mines with rowbow was impossible to find depending on location, luckily I know people so got the only pack after DRIVING FOR 30 MINS because everywhere else did not get any or got 1 or 2 before selling out instantly and being put on eBay for hundreds
Would love to sue activision for that stunt but know nothing on how to pull it off,

Imagine if Crash's appearance in Skylanders was meant to bring interest in a Crash Bandicoot Spin off show, set soley in Crash's world with writing as good as Sonic Boom
What about all the other expansion levels? Like the Griffon Park Observatory, Enchanted Elven Forest, Cursed Tiki Temple, and Lost Imaginite Mines? Sure they're not as great as the Crash Bandicoot level, but at least they expand the short adventure by a few good levels, and they arguably have more variety than most of the main levels in the game. Though rather if they're all worth buying or not is debatable...
I personally enjoyed the Enchanted Elven Forest level, mainly because it was Stealth Elf's home village and playing an elf themed level just felt nice and appealing to me for some reason. Not to mention it felt more atmospheric and less bland than a lot of other levels in the game. But that's just me.
Cursed Tiki Temple is hands down the most fleshed out and complete experience of a level in any of the 6 Skylanders titles in my opinion, hands down. Gryphon Park and Imaginite Mines are great too, and the Elven Forest was meh in my opinion, but Cursed Tiki Temple is just so perfect.

All else aside though, I like the Lost Mines level, there was a reference to the older games. Ro-Bow happens to be a favorite sensei too, so it’s a bit convenient.
Cursed Tiki Temple was another favorite of mine, Wild Storm is a very cool looking Skylander that happens to be another favorite.
@@Mfenton10 Well since the Skylanders are no longer selling, they shouldn't be as expensive as they originally were, especially if you buy a used one off of eBay or something. Also while the Griffon Park Observatory and Enchanted Elven Forest both had their own physical expansion figures, but the other 3 expansion levels don't require their own individual figure, they're automatically unlocked once Crash, Ro-Bow and Wildstorm join the game! I think this was a smart decision, since the expansion level figures don't serve much purpose after they've been scanned once. They don't even make it rain havoc on enemies like the older ones do! So the extra level figures are pretty much useless, and a waste of money. While Imaginators has made quite a few bad business decisions, but having expansion packs without physical level figures was actually a good one!

23:52 You still need the Toy Trophies to unlock The Playable boss fights vehicles and mirrored tracks but the mode is Removed altogether from the Switch version probably because activision was begin cheap and wanted to use a smaller size memory switch cart.
@Alezander2002 It also works properly online unlike it did in Superchargers. Superchargers every player online needed a vehicle for that race and a toy trophy to play them online. This meant 99% the time you could only play the two land racing tracks every starter pack came with online.
I originally bought the Dark Edition for Xbox360, but eventually I also bought the Nintendo Switch version because it went on a huge discount via supply and demand! Sure it was the same game, but being able to play Skylanders on the go (in a much higher quality than the 3DS versions) was a great novelty! Also it gave me the chance to finally play as Bowser and Donkey Kong in the game, which I wasn't able to do before, at least not outside of the 3DS Superchargers Racing game, which didn't fully satisfy me. Anyway, the first thing I did was play the Thumpa Wumpin Islands levels with my Bowser and Donkey Kong figures. Can you think of any other game where you can legitimately play as Donkey Kong inside a Crash Bandicoot world/level? You can't tell me that ain't awesome!
As a long-time player of the series with over a hundred figures, the Switch version's character select is absolutely nightmarish.
@@ShinMajin Yeah I'll admit having to scroll through all the characters 1 by 1 can be a pain in the arse. That's why I only scanned all of my Sensei's, Imaginators, and Elites into the game (plus a single Giant, Bowser & Donkey Kong, and Blastermind in case of lock puzzles) and that's it. I also arranged the order I scanned them in so my most used Skylanders are closer to the front, so I don't have to scroll as much.
My eyes rolled so hard at the mention of lootboxes. Why did they need to do that, you're already buying all these stupid figures on top of the game itself and they expected you to do lootboxes as well? That's so damn unbelievably sleazy and they aren't even subtle about it. If it weren't for the addition of Crash and Cortex this one would've flopped right out the gate, and Activision very much knew that.
Even with Crash and Cortex, I think it still flopped out of the gate. Especially when Activision was sending out massive care packages of Skylanders figures to a bunch of CZcamsrs as marketing. Literally 100's of dollars worth of gear.

In most games you can get all the lootboxes for free, but they make it so you either grind mindlessly for hours just for the mere *chance* to get something worth your time, or cut the waiting and shell out for them.
It's designed to really test your patience until it breaks you into just buying them instead, and they're really banking on that happening. And that's without even getting into why the lootboxes themselves are so shitty but I'd be here all day..
Duddridge1 The Imaginite Chests are actually VERY easy to get anyway. That is, if you take the time to find all of the collectibles in each level. Even that (assuming if you played a Skylanders game before), the treasures in this one are easier to find than in other games.
With the addition of no more elemental gates in levels, it’s possible to find every treasure chest and collectible with just using the starter pack characters. (All the element levels aren’t that great, getting you only a maximum of 2-3 chests per level play through, if you discover all the secrets.)
For example, playing a new level and doing all the requirements to get all 3 stars gets you 3 chests. There’s another 1 or 2 chests depending if the level has 1 or 2 bosses. There’s one Egg Crane minigame you can complete for 1 chest and another chest can be obtained by completing a Skystones match. And there should be around 3-5 hidden chests throughout the level.
For time, it’s only a maximum of 45 minutes to find all the collectibles. If you know what you’re doing and know the exact locations, it’ll end up in 20 or so minutes.
Again, Imaginator parts aren’t really that useful anyways. While playing the game awhile could result in you obtaining a highly broken Skylander, the Senseis are fine as they are. (King Pen has great damage, Golden Queen can turn enemies into Gold for freezing and giving you...well more Gold, Ro-Bow is best at ranged combat and medium-sized enemies can never touch you, Crash is good at throwing loads of crates, even if he has the lowest health of any Skylander.) But that’s my honest opinion, playing this game for at least part of my lifetime and beating Nightmare mode 100%. If you really want a broken Skylander, sure, waste your time grinding, but again, the Senseis are fine themselves and there is NO NEED to waste money on this shit.
I agree that the Crash level and Characters is the best thing about this game. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that it was Vicarious Visions who developed these from the ground up while Toys for Bob made the main game and characters. For context, Vicarious Visions also developed SWAP Force, SuperChargers and the N Sane Trilogy.

Everybody is asking Jak to review the 3DS Skylanders games, and while I'm on board with that, there is much more to the Skylanders series than just those. I don't know about you, but I'd like to see Jak review the Skylanders Academy Netflix Series! That would certainly be interesting. Not only that, but I'd also like to see him review the Skylanders mobile games, including Lost Islands, Battlegrounds, Cloud Patrol, Battlecast, and of course Ring Of Heroes! Although if Jak isn't really into reviewing mobile apps, then maybe he could try something a little different. I'd like to see him read the Skylanders Comic Books, and maybe even the books/novels! In fact, what if Jak were to make a video of him casually reading the Skylanders books, while he sits in a comfy chair by a fireplace, wearing a housecoat with a fake pipe in his mouth, basically acting like a sophisticated novelist or something. XD I know he's a gamer, but it wouldn't hurt to try something new every once in a while. What do you think Jak?

@@samuelgraham270 Well I think there is a way to download the older mobile games. Old apps that are no longer available on the official app stores are usually found on 3rd party archive sites.
I know it may sound kinda like pirating, but I don't think it really qualifies as piracy if the apps were discontinued and no longer being sold. In a way, it's not much different from buying old games and consoles from one of those retro video game stores that sell old pre-used games that were discontinued long ago. In a way, downloading old discontinued mobile apps from archive sites is like the digital/mobile equivalent of the example I previously mentioned.

The Imaginators are the best part of the game, and the Brain is great. But the levels just drag. A lot. Reminds me of Swap Force, but at least it had some notable charm, character-wise. Imaginators just kinda blurs into a lot of grey.

tbh it would've been cool if Skylanders had more in-depth combat. Something similar to Bayonetta or Devil May Cry where dodging and knowing when to dodge and knowing what combo does what is integral to surviving. (of course it'd be a more simplified version of those games so kids don't suck at it)
For me, Skylanders Imaginators is my favorite video game of all time. So I was very curious when I saw this video recommended to me. While I do agree with some of your points about the game, there is some stuff you said that I also disagree with too. It's interesting hearing from someone else's point of view since for the longest time, I thought it was this perfect game. But after hearing some of your points about it. I do have to agree that it's defanently not perfect. It has it's flaws for sure. But for me, I didn't really care all that much since I was just having a blast playing as these new characters I've created. Overall, great job with this video, you got some giggles and laughs out of me and I can't wait to see what other stuff you create!!!
I love Jak's disregard for the Imaginator Sensei's and whatever the fuck else is on the table. When he takes out the Skylanders box and messes everything else up on the table, the Wii is still there lol

Wow, that's actually higher than I thought it would be.
But anyway yeah, I was ok with Imaginators but ultimately it was a just a big disappointment. It had every reason to be good with the Sensei and Imaginator Skylanders but it just crashed and burned in the end with the substandard story and gameplay that was... passable when compared to the previous games.

Don't worry, the Skylander Community has your back. If you have a portal that isn't an xbox portal then you can download a program that works on your computer to reset them. Quick, easy, in and out.
