I had a 2013 C250 (petrol) and how you described the car is absolutely on the money. The engines actually have plenty of punch, when throttle kicks in the cars really do get up and go pretty well.
The problem is that there is a real feeling of "lag" to every driver input. The throttle as you said seems to feel somewhat delayed - like you put your foot down and the car responds half a second later. It's the same thing with the gearbox, just as you mentioned - even in manual mode when you change gear, it feels like the car actually changes a second or so later.
All of this can make the car a little frustrating to drive in those moments when you do want to get going quickly - like when you need to get into a gap in traffic to over take, or jump into a gap in traffic when turning out of a side street, etc.
If you dont care about any of this then its a brilliant car. The interior is a lovely place to be (mine had the dark - almost black - wood veneer which was stunning), it's a very easy car to drive (light steering, tight turning circle, good ergonomics, etc) and it's the most comfortable car I've ever owned on a long drive.
Biggest key I think for anybody looking at one of these cars is DO NOT think of it as a sports car. If you're looking for a fun, engaging sports car that's going to make your heart race every time you drive it, then this will not be for you. If you're looking for a beautifully built and appointed luxury cruiser that's effortless to drive and stunning to look at then this car will be perfect for you.
On a side note, build quality on these cars really in fantastic. I looked at quite a few of these when I was shopping for mine, and the thign that impressed me most about this generation C class is that pretty much regardless of age and mileage they all looked damn near brand new on the inside. I first looked at an early pre-facelift (2008 I think) with about 160,000km and even it looked like brand new inside. In fact I've yet to see a single W204 C-Class that didnt look near new inside. The materials hold up incrediibly well over time.

I daily a c350 4matic 150 miles round trip. I've had the car since '14 and it's a fantastic one. 25ish miles per gallon depending on how happy with the throttle I get but usually no lower than 23. Maintenance has been 90% wear and tear items. I'll be a little sad when I eventually sell it.

i like this guy so i will tell you all a few of my fun secrets!!..
    i am a 2011 E350 AMG sport owner
love my car!!! never gonna get rid of it..the stance it has is untouchable even the 2020 models dont even come close to the stance of what the 2010 to 11 models have.
the 2020 models look to much like the chrysler 200 in the rear lol.
so to keep your benz happy and even more fun
about the Fuel, he is right
i run an E85 mix with premium fuel ..E85 has a 105 octain rating mix it with 93 oct premium
its a must, it keeps everything clean the e85 will bump up the timing wich is what u want u
get better power output from it.
    no tune needed.
second ..oil, run only and only!!! Liqui moly .. Motul pintosin total or amsoil
    no mobile 1 or castroil
    stay away from those 2!
in heat the moblie 1 5w30 thins out then u start to hear minor lifter ticking
u need a thicker oil.. i run 5w40 liqui moly with 1 quart of 15w40 it gives it the perfect thickness in 100 degree heat with the air going.
its ok in the winter time too.
now exhaust!! from the secondary cats strait pipe it all the way back its ok not to loud no drone now that v6 can breathe !!!
    delete the mufflers too.
then throw in K&N air filters the more air the more power!!
follow these steps you will have a blast...and i have never ever seen my check engine light since i got the car in 2013 its 2020 now
    need i say more.
and ya i did get a 12 hp increase from everything i did.
    the e85 did help
the computer will take care of the fuel to air mixture.
dont run the e85 strait!!! u godda mix it.
and to get max power and torque use paddle shifters
the 7 speed tranny is good but it down shifts when it wants to not when u need it too!
    so use paddle shifters.

Bought one myself about 6 months ago, 2013 plate absolutely love it. He’s right about the throttle though in ECO/Comfort mode, there’s a definite lag which takes getting used too. I don’t like sport mode either. It’s a great cruiser and deceptively powerful. I prefer this to the newer W205 models.

@@JimyOfficial Yes I do - I prefer the styling, slightly chunkier feel of the car overall and the drive is more engaging - fewer electronic aids interfering. How is the reliability? Any issues during your time of ownership?

    • @pete3198
      @pete3198 Před 6 měsíci

      I had a 2013 C250 sedan (petrol motor).
I bought mine as a certified pre-owned from a Mercedes Benz dealer, so I had 2 years warranty even though it was a used car. Had mine for about 2-3 years and in my time of ownership it was extremely reliable. I really only had two issues:
      1. The engine got a little rattly at one point - ended up being an issue with the timing chain tensioners. This is a known issue with these cars and can cause big problems if not addressed quickly. Luckily mine was fixed underwarranty so no cost to me - I can only imagine it probably would have been around a $3,000 AUD bill if not for the warranty.
      2. The second was the handbrake. These dont have a traditional or electronic handbrake - instead they use a foot pedal handbrake. To engage the brake you push the foot pedal down, to release it you pull a lever on the bottom of the dash. I found that on cooler days the footbrake would sometimes get a little stuck, and you would need to push it from underneath with your foot while also pulling the lever in order to release the handbrake. This was fixed with a bit of lubricant on the foot brake mechanism, so an easy enough fix..but it was a little annoying none the less.
Other then that the car was absolutely flawless. Not the sportiest drive in the world (gearbox is smooth but slow shifting, and the throttle response is very laggy) but it's got a beautiful interior, very comfortable and supportive seats (briliant on a long drive) and if you plan to use it as a daily driver it's a real joy to own and drive.
If you like to drive enthusiastically and like somethign that's sporty feeling and responsive, then it may not be the car for you. I ended up selling mine for that reason and replaced it with a 2016 Audi S3. Not nearly as relaxing to drive but far, far more responsive and sporty feeling.

I have a 2015 C Class, and yes, it is sluggish in Economy mode, as you would expect. It is entirely different in Sport Mode and the automatic transmission responses quickly in Sport Mode, particularly if you use the paddles. Mine is a 2015 and I have had no problems with it at all and the build quality is excellent.
