NOT STAGED: This scene is actually the second attack, occurring shortly after the near identical 1st attack, which totally surprised me....im sipping coffee looking down on my phone when I hear crows and strange noises coming from my hood. Ii look up and though i saw a giant seagull then quickly realized its a hawk or eagle when he charged the kitten's glass forcefield. I scared it away & it flew to that same spot. Seeing that hawk can't damage the glass or car i quickly opened the camera and got ready for a possible 2nd atrack and record an amazing sight. Nobody was hurt, no scratches on glass or paint, kitten too young to be comprehend and be afraid. She's doing great and survival instincts have kicked in.

Craziest thing I've ever seen. I was parked in McDonald's parking lot in LOS ANGELES (Ladera Heights) drinking my coffee and this giant hawk came from nowhere and landed on my windshield. It's saw my baby kitten from who knows how far away, tried to atrack it through glass and wouldn't leave even as i drove away through the strip mall. The chicken on roids is actually a juvenile Red Tailed Hawk or a baby rodan perhaps.
NEVER LEAVE PETS UNATTENDED ANYWHERE. This video proves that so many missing small & medium pets that were last seen,let or escaped outside probably met the fate of what you see here minus the forcefield.

Crows will warn everyone of a hawk or predator in the area.
Crows are too stupid to understand such things.
They're talking to each other. Crows don't like hawks. They may launch an attack on the hawk. Hawk's probably young and doesn't know better. No adult experienced hawk would hunt in an area with so many crows.

If any kind of "proof" existed we would all be able to acknowledge it and get along in harmony instead of shooting each other dead in the mud over differences of opinion between our ancient texts.

Fwiw, the crows making so much noise was almost certainly related to this. Crows instinctively hate hawks and sound the alarm whenever one comes near.
Maybe because hawks and other predatory birds always steal their food. One morning I saw a bunch of crows feeding on a dead mouse. All of a sudden a kite swooped down, snatched the mouse and flew away.

You ever see videos of mountain lions or bears walking up to the back door of a house, and the dog or cat living there is just sitting in front of the glass staring at the giant predator 2 inches away from their face? You ever see videos of dogs who won't go through an already open door because they are waiting to see their owner open the door so they don't smack themselves in the face trying to go through glass? These are clear examples of animals who understand the concept of glass. That brand-new-to-the-world kitten hasn't gotten it yet. And it will also probably never understand what that hawk's intention was, or that there are other flying predators out there just waiting for the little kitty to take a few unsupervised steps outside its house. We anthropomorphize our pets way too much and often assume they understand far more than they are capable.

Bahh growing up we had outdoor/indoor cats that were fine. And I lived in a city were birds of pray weren't rare to be seen. And even if our cat that I loved (died of old age) did get snatched oh well, thats the circle of life for ya.
I mean nobody should let a kitten out anywhere! A full grown cat would not be prey for this bird.

Edit: Since it keeps coming up… yes I’m aware birds hit glass all the time. It has happened to me as well. However, because there are not mounds of dead birds around _every_ window _every_ day, I must assume that _some_ birds know to avoid them.

You can't scratch windshield with claws, as they are made of keratin. It has hardness of 2.5 on mohs scale and you need at least 5.5 to scratch glass.

I was a truck driver for many years and used to bring my cat with me. Her favorite place to lay was right up front on the passenger side dash. Every once in a while a bird of prey would spot her napping through the windshield and swoop down to grab her. One of them hit it so hard that I was surprised the windshield didn't crack.
The force shield is up. They just didn't know it.
The bird is too light.. Light things gave lesser force despite the speed..

I like how the hawk took a minute looking at it's claws the first time before realizing it didn't have the kitten, and then getting frustrated when it couldn't figure out why 😂
Also. Predators are devilishly hilarious. Notice how the hawk will only pounce when the kitten isn’t looking. When the hawk is eye to eye with the kitty she looks away and pretends to be disinterested. Once the owner stared the hawk down it flew off.
It’s all about the element of surprise with predators to avoid as much of a struggle as possible. Same with human predators. You rarely see them coming.

Love that you can hear crows in the background freaking out about the hawk. Crows are great alarm systems, when I hear my neighbourhood crows going out there’s usually something interesting happening, like a predator in the area

I like to think the crows were laughing at the hawk as it could see everything but the glass.
I live in rural Australia and we have crows and ravens around here and when a wedge-tailed eagle is around, they chase them away. A wedge-tailed Eagle tried to get one of my cats who were outside on their lines. I brought them inside and our chickens all took cover while the ravens chased away the eagle. We feed our ravens so they’re our friends and doing a great job of protecting their territory.

I'm guessing maybe OP's eyes were hidden behind the camera or otherwise obscured? I know with "my" squirrels, as soon as the hawk sees my eyes/me looking at them, the attack is called off?
If the hawk is hanging out in parking lots in a city like that, it’s probably used to being around humans. At least comfortable enough to grab food even while humans are near. It was only when the cameraman started moving closer to the hawk that it became scared enough to fly off.
It probably doesn't see the human as competition or as an owner of the cat since it's a wild animal and probably only understands if a dog is on a leash then it is attached to that person

Nah. The reason why cats should stay indoors is that they destroy ecosystems. There has already been many species that went extinct or their populations have been greatly decreased because of cats, which are invasive to most places. They kill so many birds, lizards, hedgehogs or other small mammals etc...
I was confused by what's stopped the bird. Truly, a force shield!
Or small dogs. Mine are not super small, and they're primitive dogs who are more likely to understand the danger, but if I spot an eagle in the area I'm in, that short leash goes on immediately, and I start heading back. But I know someone who had the door to their balcony open on a high floor, and without going into details, a seagull was the threat. Even very common city birds can be a real danger.
