Great presenter doesn't read the slide. He tells you vivid (~emotional) story about the things on that slide with extra bits and often using different words. Slide is only there as a "handout" to burn into your retina numerical differences and make your marks and comments. 2 sources to create more connections in brain. Limiting reader is counter productive. He started this a few months back and I've been hating it. Using pause just to see and decide for myself.

Any Screen that plays uses a 120 Hz panel playing any content at 120 Hz when the content is not 120 fps does this it's not a trick it's the only way it works or you would get every frame it does not have from the content as black or half drawn (AKA Screen taring). My monitors are 2 x 120 Hz and 300 Hz, the 300 is running at 240 purely so the frame timings line up with the 120's otherwise you get screen taring.

Many thought that AMD would be dead after the Phenom-era. Many thought that AMD would be even more dead after the FX-era. The first Ryzen-generations were making hope, but they were no breakthrough. And look where AMD is today! They are the literal Phoenix from the ashes. Today, intel is facing enormous difficulties. Their decade of absolute dominance over AMD made them lazy, and today they are paying the price. However, they will be back. It may take a few years for intel to recover, but they won't be destroyed.

For servers, CPU performance is not the entire picture. Intel has accelerators on the motherboards that offload a ton of server overhead to those accelerators.
Gamer Meld and a bunch are trying to bolster AMD and topple Intel. Remember, AMD reaps TSMC's foundry's superior node process. ASML is the real technology giant that supplied TSMC with the equipment.
Keep Intel viable, as their new foundry has received the first machinery IIRC at $518 million. Intel has been in cahoots with ASML for a decade designing these new fabs. Look out.

Ok, I checked their datasheet when trying to answer an idi0t here in the comments and apparently the PX chips have 3D V-cache, going from 64 MB that the others have, to 128 MB.

    • @Gielderst

@Winnetou17 Hey, thanks for the reply.
I've been wondering about this, because i myself have a Ryzen 7950X3D, and try to understand if the EPYC 4584PX could be better or worse, does it have 128MB Cache total? Cause my 7950X3D has a total of 145MB Cache, adding it all up.
Also these AM5 EPYC chips are much more expensive than the Ryzen 7000 lineup, yet they dont's seem any better at all.

    • @Winnetou17
      @Winnetou17 Před 3 měsíci +1

@@Gielderst I think they're the same on the cache size. That 145 MB figure is L2 + L3, while the 128 MB is only L3. L2 for Zen4 cores is 1 MB per core, so 16 cores means 128 + 16 = 144 MB .... hmm, don't know how they got 145. Maybe they added L1 too, but that's not usually done.
These Epyc CPUs are not for performance, they are for the other server-related important topics, like stability and security. And other enterprise features, like better virtualization. But I don't know exact details. I'm also not in the market, so to speak :))

3:58 Nvidia has had AI CPUs since 2015, quite literally first to market.
I have several of them, the one from 2020 is pretty darn good, about the same AI performance as a 3050(several times more than the 8700G/8845HS) with a low powered SODIMM form factor model that only produces 100TOPS, but again, its the size of a stick of laptop RAM. They even have a low end version of this that produces only 40 TOPS, but apparently has a TDP of 8w
Before anyone says ThEsE aRe EmBeDdEd NoT fOr CoNsUmEr"
Quit parroting experts that dont know their foot from their toilet seat. There is no difference between a consumer and embedded processor other than what device they're installed into, you can take the SODIMM version of Orin, put it in a laptop shell, and now its a consumer CPU.
No one wants them for consumer CPUs because 95% of people dont want ARM based Windows, and those that do, dont want to spend $2500 on a laptop that has a slower CPU than an i5-1240p laptop that costs $800, and Nvidia is not going to give up that margin on the embedded parts

AI not exciting? Hahaa... this might come as a surprise to you, but I'm not a gamer at all. I actually subscribe to your channel (and similar channels) because the same hardware that is of interest to gamers is of interest to AI researchers (especially the student/hobbyist/smb market, who can't afford data center cards). My newest PC build would look exactly like a gaming rig to anybody who didn't know what i was using it for, but it's totally an AI/ML box to me. 🙂

Number of cores doesnt really matter if those cores are clocked down. Better to have fewer higher clocked cores than have a bunch of low clocked cores with a high boost as it is unlikely the CPU will be always hitting the theoretical max boost clocks especially not across all cores...

its been a decade since I last went "shit..I'mma run a single machine as a server without virtualization, 4 cores should do it" cause I'm not into wasting power and money, if my server requirements are that low I'd just run a raspberry pi or the likes for waaaay cheaper.
