      Agreed. I've got PTSD and anxiety. It angers me when people try to hide their lack of respect for boundaries, allergy to the word no and zero understanding of accountability for their actions behind some kind of designer disorder. It's even worse when there's medical professionals who enable such obvious fraud.
      I knew a lady who did this and self-diagnosed her poorly behaved son with Asperger's and ADHD. He was neither, but she had a quack pediatrician that got him put on Ritalin. For those who don't know, Ritalin for those who don't need it, it makes them extremely hyper. So she got him on a nighttime knockoff version of Xanax to help put him to sleep. This woman seriously medicated her own son because she did not want to raise him right.

    story 1: Every time I think my faith in humanity can't go any lower, I'm proven wrong. I was giving the 'psychologist' the benefit of the doubt the whole time and thinking the brother was forging the letters, but it was worse than I thought. I really hope that person lost their license for good. And having mental health struggles does not entitle you to a damn thing except honest therapy. I'll never understand the people who somehow think that they're owed something just for existing.

    • @kentario1610
      @kentario1610 Před 10 měsíci +4

      I also thought he was just forging them but it turns out... I'm glad these parents have an honest son too, who, though he shouldn't have to, is willing to help them from the pit they fell into when just trying their best.

    1) I agree with AITJ, but, as much as I hate to say it, his parents were partially at fault here. There were warning signs saying, "Hey... Something is off here", and OP tries to convince them for a second medical opinion, which, had they accepted, they would've figured it out before their son drained their cash beyond an affordable retirement.
    I wanna emphasize that 99.99% of what happened was the brother's fault, but... OP's parents probably should've been asking questions sooner than they did, all things considered. I get that a mental illness is serious, but... I don't see how expensive apartments, phones, laptops, etc., would solve a depression. That would be when I'd start realizing that something was off.
    2) That was nice of OP. I hope the Karens got banned from the store.
    3) AITJ is right. Yes, the wife is depressed, BUT... She should've seen this coming and listened to OP. Regardless of whether she's depressed, at the end of the day, she put this on herself and OP. Honestly, I'd divorce her if I was in this situation, since, while OP's wife had great intentions... She's just TERRIBLE at finances, and at listening to good advice, to the point that she spends their ENTIRE SAVINGS on something SHE KNEW WAS A SCAM.
    For OP... I'm sorry for your loss, but... Your wife needs to learn some common sense.

  • @gomoestas
    @gomoestas Před 10 měsíci +7

    The OP of the last story should see her correspondence with the scammer to see if it's maybe a love scam, not a humanitarian one. I'm not buying the "she is depressed because the scam was giving her purpose" story, I think it's more like "she's heartbroken that her online affair turned out to be a love scam".

  • @princessmarlena1359

    First Story reminds me of two brothers, Roger (older) and Stan. Roger had a mental illness much like OP’s brother. However, Roger didn’t milk or abuse his status to get money from the parents. It was tough for him to make it through school, he got kicked out of community college (twice), and couldn’t hold a job more than one to three weeks on average (typically fired, bosses knew but didn’t care about his mental illness).
    He went on SSI or whatever it’s called, and lived with his brother Stan. He stayed out of trouble, kept to a budget, covered his half of utilities and rent, and was home pretty much every day, but he did take care of the place, got the mail, signed for packages, was there for the cable guy, and even kept watch over the building (he scared off a daytime burglar at one time). He even made meals for Stan and did the dishes afterwards. When Stan finished college and they had to move out of the apartment, Roger was actually given a place to live by a family member who had bequeathed some land to him, and a truck, via a trust.
    Roger lives out in the countryside on that land, and is doing okay. It’s sort of a “Stardew Valley” or “Animal Crossing” life for him. He got a trailer put on that land and is trying to fix up the old farmhouse on the property, but by bit. But he never would have acted as entitled and spoiled as OP’s brother. The guy has his faults, but he’s doing his best to improve.

      They probably can't. Unless they have solid evidence or a confession, it would be an uphill battle. Especially because they voluntarily gave the money. Even more so because they didn't vet the "care team". But I'm not a lawyer and dying know the exact laws there.

When they offer to help I feel incredibly guilty (imposter syndrome ftw) so to see someone WILLINGLY take advantage of their parents like that pisses me off so much. I hope that man gets some sense knocked into him soon and I hope the parents win the lottery or get some stroke of financial luck so they can actually retire

    Story 1: 20 YEARS of life savings?! How much more of an AH can you be? The brother did not deserve the love and support of his family the moment he decided to basically lie and steal from his family. This means she can take the test two weeks from now and keep doing the same thing so if they say I’m going to suspend your license is never permanent in any state can’t make your suspension permanent that Hass to be agreed in all states or you have to get it permanently suspended in all states I know this because one of my friends moms does this exact same thing which I think is disgusting, so she just keeps moving states and her John nature well travel lol so I guess she just Hass to do it like that and she’s on her 20th state she 71
