- When Make Your Mark re-introducing Spike, I felt like it was the right time the talk about Dragons in the My Little Pony.

What I've heard, the reason for their dragons looking way different than from G4, is because G4 is copyrighted.. I don't comprehend it because it's Hasbro, but I don't understand the copyright thing.. For instance: Everytime they mention the word Twilight or any of the mane 6, they'll have to pay tons of money due to copyright, if it's copyrighted then why did they even bother to make G5 part of G4? I'm very confused about the copyright info I was told. Overall, I also see G5 as an AU.
As far as I know, this isn’t the first time this has happened. FiM also had the same issues with copyright since Hasbro did not have the rights to their own stuff at the time. They did eventually get them back though, from what I have heard.

It happens because Hasbro is comprised of idiots. People that make terrible contracts and repeatedly lose rights to their own IP. This going all the way back to g1. It’s the reason Twilight Sparkle is her name. They could t use twilight from g1 as Lauren wanted due to copyright. Same with Rainbow Dash. Lauren wanted Firefly, but again due to Hasbro’s stupidity in maintaining their own IP. They lost the right too.

the main problem with G5's dragons is, in comparison to the previous three generations that are all sort of separate from one another, G5 was written and specified as a direct sequel of G4, meaning everything we've seen involving G4's lore, worldbuilding, and species, are technically canon to G5. This includes dragons, which are shown as bipedal when juvenile and gradually more quadruped as they age, but become significantly larger. If they wanted to do their own thing, G5 has the dilemma of having built itself off of G4. When you make a sequel, it opens new story plots but restricts your worldbuilding to what was previously established, so it is problematic when you go for a sequel and then start dismissing the lore of what its a sequel for.
It is similar to why the Star Wars sequels got a lot of slack at the start

Adult Spike in gen four looks right out of Dragon Tales
I thought that too the Gen 1 and 4 dragons had a similar vibe to Dragon Tales. I think that it gives such a charming look to them.

I love😍 the 3D-cartoon "Dragon🐲 Tales" 1999 series.
😇 I like the "Dragon🐲 Tales 1999 series" Season 1 version better
G5 really would be way better if it wasn't a sequel. Yeah, it'd still have shallow stories and its own internal plotholes, but it would be far more bearable if it wasn't constantly changing established lore and creatures, thus confusing the viewer.
My favorites are in My Little Pony: Make Your Mark.

2:00 I find it funny how you call Whimsey "Little" despite the fact that she's like maybe six feet tall, easily twice G3 Spike's height & much taller than the G3.5 Ponies(then again she would be small compared to dragons the size of large dinosaurs).
I always thought that the ponies were about the size of a very small pony or horse in 3.5. So when Whimsey was next to the ponies, she was about 3 ponies tall that would make her 5 feet at most, which is small for a dragon in my mind. But I don't know the canon height of any of the characters in Gen 3.5.
