I think little head canons like yours are great thought experiments that are fun to think about things Gold Lilly and Sterling have bearing on canon, so making up story's for them is far game. You have really cool head canons.
I had the princess gold Lilly toy when I was a kid and obsessed with MLP, I always wanted Sterling toy to complete the collection of those two alicorns but never got it, I always thought they were characters that were in the show and I just haven’t seen the episodes they were in yet only to find out years later that they were just toy line exclusive alicorns that never appeared in the show

Well who knows. Maybe some of the G5 Writers who actually knows the Princess Skyla Toy Exists, they will probably tell Hasbro Themselves to actually make Skyla Canon in G5 in Skyros. Or maybe she'll not be Canon at all. We will wait and see after Sunny Starscout and her Friends Finds the Skyros Location. Update: if Hasbro would think about making Princess Skyla Canon in G5, (which I think they will probably never do) Skyla would probably still be a Baby or she would probably be a Grown up Alicorn.
I don't think there a bad idea. I just wish the toy designers and show writer would work together better because there could be some great stories with these concepts.

I am not that well versed in toy released, but I remember seeing videos opening these that were made in 2013, but I could be wrong. I am sure these were available for at least a few years.

I, too, wish they showed up in the show. I saw Gold Lilly in stores when I was little but never Starling, unfortunately.

i had the gold lily princess as a kid! ruined her with permanant marker (trying to make a custom) so quite fond memories haha!
