    You often bring up repetitivity as a highly negative aspect of LEGO sets. But I really think that to achieve structures like this one it's absolutely unavoidable

    • @TazerXI
      @TazerXI Před 20 dny +73

      With sets like these, it is unavoidable, and you can tell from looking at it, but that doesn't take away from that, to Tiago at least, this is a negative of the build. Just because the problem is a necessary flaw of the design doesn't stop it from being a flaw. You just have to hope that the end result is enough to overcome it and for the set to be worth it.

      i think it’s what thinks of as “his niche” like other lego tubers talk about technic, display factor, etc but tiagos is stuff like building techniques and unique parts use. Which is a fine niche to have, but really, who is going to buy a 500 dollar lego set for the thrill of spending an afternoon building it? You spend that much money to put it on display.

Some metallic parts would have helped break up and add even more interest to the mostly grey structure. I'm underwhelmed. If the set focused solely on the rocket like the Saturn V did, and actually made it to scale, I'd buy it. That's what the fans wanted. That's the idea we all voted for on Ideas not once, not twice, but thrice. Each time, Lego shot it down, presumably because they were making this.
    It's a letdown. All the stickers, the tiny scale of the rocket, and the needlessly huge tower. Sure, it makes a good display, but I think the budget could have gone solely into the rocket and made for an even better display.
    I'm not going to be buying this set, but I'm glad its pieces might be useful for someone to design a reasonably priced MOC of just the rocket down the line.

      I'll call it boring. And lazy. You look at older Creator Expert vehicles and the box art is beautiful and has actual effort put into it. You look at current Ideas vehicles and every box looks the same. Just that same dull black background with no real effort put in. I'm not fully against those boxes because they do make some sets like the Art, Architecture and helmet sets look good. But Lego went too far and uses it for anything that's not aimed at kids and even some which could've been aimed at kids. Sets like Sesame Street and Winnie the Pooh probably would've sold much much better if they'd used the proper box art for them. Instead they made them look dull and boring and probably stopped a lot of kids and parents from even giving them a proper look

      I think it might be because lego has started creating box art for adults that has that consistent black art with the model.
      Before they started doing this, large sets really didn’t have a consistent style, the art work would be less consistent and more related to the model itself like box art for more kid sets.

    As cool as this thing is... There are two glaring aesthetic issues: 1) You might as well name that tower Pisa because it is leaning HARD. 2) The 2x2 round bricks of the solid rocket boosters (and top of the main booster) are a GIGANTIC eye sore because of the gaps for standard round lego connectors to go. The build is doted with these extremely awkward dark rectangles... There's not anything that could have been done about it, but in the planning stages, if not scrapping the idea entirely because of that issue, than more attention should have been paid in keeping that to a minimum like in some lego city sets. NO. THANKS.

    The tower looks nice, im thinking it would make for a nice retrofit to a saturn v, the sls however really looks like an afterthought vs the saturn however guess it had to to include the tower and fit the budget

  • @coffeeinhandproductions3238

    Looks like a cool display piece to go alongside similar Nasa themed sets. Despite the repetitive nature of the build, feels like a good one to pace throughout a week than rush all at once. Shame about the stickers as the Apollo I don't think had any throughout the build. Still given the choice I'd sooner get the Discovery Shuttle as it's a much more interesting build, and better display altogether.

    I think that the repetitiveness is greatly compensated by the result! Unless you're going to build and rebuild it several times, it's an awesome display piece!

  • @jumpanama
    @jumpanama Před 20 dny

    Is the scale of the SLS the same as the shuttle?
    I would love to have a full stack of Discovery (SRB's + tank) since the SLS in real life reuses the SRB's from the shuttle.
    I noticed the engine is a different piece (honeycomb vs barrel) so I'm a bit concerned the scales are different

    I think the result is tremendous and it will be my first day-one Lego purchase this year. Repetition and re-used SNOT is the nature of the beast - its difficult to see how the result could have been achieved any other way. The two down-sides are it not being the same scale as the Saturn V (balanced against a much higher price) and the stickers, but neither are enough to put me off.

    The blackbox is also not extend to me. The previous box style anlogously illustrates the scale of the model in specific scenario, the Vestas wind turbine is an example. I won't mention athestic problem, the main issue about black box design is that it hard to contemplate these sets before buying.

    More often than not I love having stickers on sets. This is a different situation though. This is an 18+ set mainly for display. The Saturn V had 0 stickers. I find no good reason for this set to have stickers that don't even match the color of the bricks (looking at white in particular).

    • @Cobraculo

    When I saw that 21 of the 27 bags are dedicated to the launch pad and tower rather than the rocket itself, I was very disappointed. This rocket doesn't live up to the LEGO Saturn V, which is a shame since I was looking forward to displaying them together. I have no interest in buying a set that is mostly launch pad when I hoped to display the Artemis SLS horizontally on stands like the Saturn V has as an option. Hopefully a future version will focus on a better rocket build without stickers.

  • @DFYX
    @DFYX Před 19 dny

    I would have preferred just the SLS alone in the same scale as the Saturn V so they look right when displayed next to each other. While do like the way the launch tower looks, it's probably the reason why the set has to be in a smaller scale, otherwise the set would have been way too expensive.

    The repetition does not deter me from the aesthetically pleasing set. The construction appears ideal for a leisurely Sunday afternoon accompanied by an engaging podcast.
    However, the unacceptable stickers hinder my purchase decision. This is particularly concerning considering the company's motto of "ONLY THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH." Notably, competitors like Bluebrixx offer great sets that predominantly feature printed elements and are more cost-effective. While Lego remains my preferred choice, it must enhance its offerings to maintain its leading position.

    My biggest dislike about sets with plaques is that the plaques are sometimes just a stand alone thing which can make it easy to lose and seems like an after thought. Lego missed a big opportunity to integrate it into the side of the launch platform where it’s just solid grey.
    It would have looked so much more complete and I hope some makes a moc of it.
