- Paul Williams (July 2, 1939 - August 17, 1973) was an American baritone singer and choreographer. Williams was noted for being one of the founding members and original lead singer of the Motown group The Temptations. Along with David Ruffin, Otis Williams (no relation), and fellow Alabamians Eddie Kendricks and Melvin Franklin, Williams was a member of The Temptations during the "Classic Five" period. Personal problems and failing health forced Williams to retire in 1971. He was found dead two years later as the result of an apparent suicide.

I'M one of the Temptation great fan but my best one is Paul William Sr today is his birthday he would have been 77 year old today.Rip my friend.We will not know what it would have been if you were still here today. what a gift God gave you.We will never know of it . R I P .
PAUL WILLIAMS, was always my TEMPTATIONS, Me and my cousin always called PAUL the ugly TEMPT but all his songs were lead with emotions, to this day i think he was best lead singer of all the TEMPTATIONS, I WHAT A LOVE I CAN SEE, FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE, WHO YOU GONNA RUN TO, WHAT NOW MY LOVE , just to name a few? ?

From what i have read it sounds like Paul Williams was murdered for what no one has said to this day. R.I.H. Paul Williams Sr. you will never be forgotten through your music.

I have one more thing to say if you don't mind. It was said that he committed suicide, but how can you take your right hand and shoot yourself on the left side of your head? Hmm!
Scherrie Damm It was more than just him being shot on the left side of his head- (1) Some reports say he had just left his girlfriend's house after an argument. His girlfriend was married (possible suspect.) (2) He was found laying next to his car which means that if he did shoot himself, he got out of his car and stood up to shoot him self (3) the bottle found next to his body (4) the gun was fired twice. So if all of those factors are put together to tell a story, Paul left his girlfriend's house, drove to an alley with a drink in his hand, turned the car off, got out of the car with the drink still in his hand, standing up he took his gun in his right hand and fired the gun once, MISSED, then pointed the gun to his left temple and fired; dropping the bottle as his body fell. Does that make sense? Not to me
