Every thing Phil touched turned out gold
Seriously. Howard Jones had a version of "No One Is To Blame" on his Dreaming Into Action album that was GOOD, but there was room to change it up a bit. Phil Collins, along with Hugh Padgham, who was producer for Phil, Genesis, The Police, and Human League, to name a few, came on and remixed it, adding Phil to drums (of course) and back up vocals (you can CLEARLY recognize Phil's vocals. The man was a Renaissance musician). Now I do like the album version, but I think that re-produced version is one of the top 15 songs of the 80s.
The amount of money to fly that horn section to Sweden alone is a reminder of a different universe in the music industry
i wonder what their rate was. Earth, Wind & Fire horns
Frida not only was georgeous and lovable she also had a lovely speaking voice apart from her singing voice love her.
IS! She's alive and singing.

Phil was one of the hardest working guys in rock at this point… genesis, his solo stuff, session work, touring with Robert Plant and this stuff.
Phil Was the 1980s radio , charts , soundtracks with Genesis , then as a solo artist 🤩😉🎶👌
Yes love his work with Plant
Agree. Why critics have maligned him so much over time is beyond me. They'll revere him when he's gone, as they always do.
@@Cicilo1983 Some artists the press single out to tear down when they're deemed _too_ popular. Phil was an easy 80's target.
It was a strange combo of those who jumped on that stupid punk bandwagon of hating everything prog & popular and those critics who blamed Phil for making Genesis 'too commercial.'
Don’t forget Brand-X but I think they may not have been active since a couple prior to this
Brilliant seeing Phil & the band in an old Transit Van....... No Limos Required!!
Yep! I love the old footage from the Abacab era, of them traveling in busses and carrying their own luggage. Well, they definitely earned the glory of the following decade
Absolutely beautiful
My God a gorgeous woman. Phil is a gem of one of a talent love him.
Remember buying this Frida Album on tape and playing it on a 8 hour journey to Cornwall along with Alan Parsons Project around 1982. Certainly took the boredom out of the drive.
Good to see Gerry Rafferty's band members and producer involved ,along with Gerry's brother Jim Rafferty's song writing -"🎶I see Red🎶"Have a listen to Gerry's version and also Jim's version -both are good .
One of the greatest collaborations ever. 🙂💯
but she should've done a collaboration with Lene Lovich or even Yoko Ono
Outside of her one hit, it's too bad her album didn't do better in the US. Hopefully it did better in the UK & Europe.
I'm so glad that "Tell Me It's Over" is featured in this clip. I love the song and it should have been the second single release.
What a precious document!! Thanks for posting!!!
Frida = what a voice ❤ The best mezzo - Sopran I've ever heard
Phil is so humbly even still
Ohhh, I didn't know this video footage existed, it's AWESOME !! 👍
"It could be good for ABBA as well because we could put or own individual thoughts and things into the music of ABBA" .... AHHHH, Frida's words speak of fully expecting ABBA to currently continue on, sooo sad that wasn't to be! 😪
Phil Collins 2 best album productions were...
FRIDA and PHILIP BAILEY. Both are full length masterpieces thanks to Phil.
- Phil Collins was everywhere in the 80's!
- Well,... He used the Concorde.=)
Magnificent document!
Frida pop princess period. I love you Frida.
I was aware that Anni-Frid had pursued a solo career. I just didn’t know before 10 Oct., 2023 that Phil Collins had been part of it. It’s a classic case of “so different, they’re exactly the same”.
very nice, thank you Frida
I Know There's Something Going On was written by Russ Ballard
Wow - the creative process of musicians creating/making music. All analog, no digital - as far I can tell. And cigarettes and Pepsi too!!
And while we're talking about the creative musical process - it goes without saying, if you haven't watched The Beatles Get Back documentary - a must see.
This album was actually recorded digitally on a Mitsubishi 32-track machine. Hugh Padgham has gone on record saying that the machine sounded "absolutely terrible".
@@benjaminedwards9751 Ah, didn't know that! So if this is early history of digital recording, it would make sense that the new technology wasn't that great, as most new technologies need to have the "bugs" worked out. 😄
🎶🙌💫🌻Frida is a Great Singer🎶💫🙌🌻🌟🙂
At 2:59 it looks like the Yamaha GX-1 synthesizer that ABBA recorded several hits with for years. Extremely rare instrument, and it still exists in Stockholm today, I believe.
Yes, very likely. The GX-1, the Dream Machine, is laid out like a 1970s electronic organ, two manuals plus a smaller solo manual. I'd say it's the very best sounding analog synthesizer ever built. The famous Yamaha CS-80 (Vangelis) was built with the same (or very similar) circuit design.
It would be that’s ABBAs recording studio.
@@truefilm6991 I agree with you - many times I've referred to the GX-1 as the best synthesizer anyone has ever made. Its overall musicality and aesthetic is unmatched. In a lot of ways it's more church organ than synthesizer - it's not meant to be one of a few keyboard instruments in a given setting; it's meant to be *the* keyboard instrument.
It is the GX-1. I’ve played that very one at my synth mechanic’s place.
@@hubbsllc As i had myself dozens of Synths, Analog and Digital, in the past 35 Years, i can assure you that there is no "best Synthesizer" at all. The best one is that one that fits for a particular song or / and between other Synths or Environment. Even a CS80 or probably a GX-1 has its weak points and limitations in certain situations. They´re usually called the best ones, because they were produced in a (very) limited amount for a very high price tag - and there are very few who can afford it; if one makes its way onto the market. But Price and limited numbers do not tell the whole story.
Pure talent through and through.
It's too pity that they didn't put "Shot down in action" on this album. So catchy and very good song!
Brilliant I love this album and title song ❤️
That final song in the clip sounds great, too bad it did not make the final cut on the album.
Agree!
Frida and Phill uma parceria 👊🏻👊🏻genialissima 👍🏻👍🏻
this song. Period.
Frida should have just covered one of the songs off the Pat Benatar album. She did sing Fire & Ice live on a show once & did a decent job.
❤❤
Nice Video
I like the part that's about the making of Something's Going On.
I recognize the keyboardist Peter Robinson from the into to the “Don’t Lose My Number” music video.
Her voice is pure ASMR
I thought the exact same thing. Heavenly speaking voice.
I look at those dancers and I think I've seen somebody that I used to know...
Que bueno aprender de esta forma
Whoa Phil was handsome then!
and the wifey cheated on him...
No auto tune here!
I had really hoped to see the making of the actual SONG. It’s too bad that isn’t in here at all.
"I Know There's Something Going On" is a song "Something's going on " is an album.
This is an excerpt from a longer documentary that's also on CZcams, I think it should include what you're looking for (though I haven't watched it yet).

How in the Hell could Phil Collins NOT HAVE KNOWN who Pat Benetar was at that time? Pat had only won 2 grammys for "Best Female Rock Vocal Performer" and another for "Favorite Rock/Pop Female Artist". This makes no sense.
She was a big star in the US, but at that time she didn't have any hits in Europe/the UK, it's possible that someone as busy as Collins didn't have the time to follow everything that was going on in the biz.
ABBA Frida
It seems she was a guest on her own solo album
❤ Ich Hab die LP ❤
The beat to that song helps me do more pushups.
Where in this video do you see them creating the song 'I know there's something going on' ??
You're confusing the song title "I Know there's something's going on" and the album title "Something's going on". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Something%27s_Going_On
@@MangeDisk oh. I see. My bad...
It's a FANTASTIC song. The drums, guitar and production is WOW.
@@MangeDisk had a chance to see Phil Collins 1 final time in Minneapolis. It was 2019 or 2021. Now he's retired.
@MangeDisk Again, where do you see them showing the making of "I know there's something going on"? This is good too, but I was wondering the same thing. Lol
I think in many ways PC was making this his album...not unusual for him. I think Frida was a muse for him.
@John Stephens Yes
It's PC's solo album
As it is he’s using people he worked with previously and knows what to expect… ;)
Think this was part of a 50 minute documentary - be cool if the rest was uploaded

Необычно.
What about the "I Know There's Something Going On" song itself? wasn't that the only hit?
NO SE LA VEIA NADA EMOCIONADA A FRIDA CON ESTE TRABAJO
So where is it?????
@8:30 How could Phil Collins not have heard Pat Benatar's music???
She was much bigger in the US than the UK and also we have to remember this was in the early 80's.
I thought that too but he was a very busy man
Needs more cowbell
Why did they stop when Phil starting playing WTF !
What is the song is playing at 9:15 ?
"Shot Down In Action". Too bad they didn't put the song on her album.
make music is a hard work....
Wait - no Phil playing IKTSGO?
RESY IN PEACE MO FOSTER
I still wonder how much Frida was out of touch with the current music scene by that time. In The Air Tonight was one of the biggest hits of 1981, it was a big fat number one in Sweden, Face Value also was a number one in Sweden and everywhere in Europe -and she did not know who Phil Collins was??????
she did know who he was, they met before this. But this record was done in early 1982, Face Value was on the scene in summer 1981. She listened to the album for like half a year from what I recall she once said. - but keep in mind what was going on back then, ABBA was falling apart and they were all in a kind of depressive state. From what Frida said herself, she actually wanted to quit the music scene in total by the end of ABBA, it needed convincing that she kept on going to create solo work.
I'm pretty sure she knew who he was. Genesis recorded "Duke" in that same studio, and Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks also both recorded their first solo albums there.
@@benjaminedwards9751Indeed, and she owned it.
Ah, is there a part two? Because it's hard to call this a 'making of' when it doesn't contain even a single note of the song!
You're confusing the name of the song and the name of the album.
Then where is part one 😮😢 ? ? ?
How can so many people not be aware of the fact that the album was called Something's Going On? All the whining in the comments... 🤦♂
Phil had never heard of Pat Benatar? 🤔
8:54...the way that Phill looks Frida... 😏...say no more Collins hahaha 🙈💕
Somethings going on?!?!?
Too bad there's no 'Something's Going On' on this ''Something's Going On'' doc.
"I Know There's Something Going On" is a song recorded in 1982 by ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Frida). It was the lead single from her solo album Something's Going On.
@@MangeDisk Yes obviously, but the fact the recording of the actual title track song is not covered in this doc is what I'm pointing out here. Thanks for posting how the album came about!
@@celestepalm6949 "I know there's" makes all the difference here.
Back of a transit van? Really?
So frida hadn’t heard phil Collins and Collins hadn’t heard pat benatar . I mean Wtf? And they are musicians?
I'm not sure how the final mix of this lost all of the low end. Makes be sad. Something's going on could have beat down the walls but the final mix if flat.
Hmmm...disappointed as was the album yielding only the title track...do I know of...it was an excellent song and one I still enjoy today all these years later...New Wave like Gary Newmans Cars rather than Pats metal edge...
Nothing part of this entire video was about the song there’s something going on
You're confusing the track and the album "Something's Going On" from which "I know there's something going on" was extracted mate ;-) .
It all was about the making of that album
Suspenders? The've never been a good fashion look on anyone.
