    Epic doom metal from Sweden at its best!First 4 Candlemass albums are essential cornerstones in the doom metal genre and the thing is that their music has not been really replicated 'till now,, due to Messiah's incredible voice (who by the way when this albums was released in December 1987, he wasn't even 20 years old) and amazing , imaginative guitar rifs and solos.There are other good of course bands in the doom, death/doom and funeral doom metal genres, but Candlemass are in a league of their own. Samarithan and Gallows End are fan favorites from this album, but the whole albums is grandiose and epic to the bone

      @@Magnereacts Thanks for your reply Magne, peace and love to you also!Yes, Candlemass is definitely a unique and great band that needs to be explored more!On their previous, first albumEpicus, Doomicus Metallicus, they had a different singer, not operatic as Messiah Marcolin, but with a pretty distinct voice and the albums was equally great as the second!Candlemass was foundd by their bassist and songwriter Leif Endling who first showed the path from Candlemass music with his previous band called Nemesis and their Day Of Retribution ep from 1984 and the Tales Of Creation demo from 1985 that had songs put in the 4th Candlemass album with he same name, Tales of Creation.Of course, those were different versions of the songs, in Nemesis Leif Endling was singing.The first band of Johan Längquist, the singer on Epicus, Doomicus Metallicus named Jonah Quizz was also a very good early heavy metal band, even if they were never released an album in the 1980s, but only 2 demos from 1980 and 1982 respectively.Fortunately, Jonah Quizz were also put on a spotlight some years ago and more recently due to their songs being released on an anthology cd/lp 2 times, in 2009 and in 2020 respectively

      @@METALSCAVENGER78 As already stated in my comment, their debut is still my favourite, especially because of the longest tracks "Demon's Gate" and "A Sorcerer's Pledge". However, if I were to suggest another song from "Nightfall", I'd also go with "At the Gallows End" which you mentioned in your initial comment.

    Magne, I've just discovered your channel. And I have to admit your demeanor and your thoughtful commentary as you go on this metal Journey has me just intrigued. You mentioned that you felt you should show Respect by head-banging but that's the beautiful thing of metal my friend... all you need to do to be a metal fan... is love metal. It doesn't matter what you look like, it doesn't matter where you come from, metal is a huge and open community. And for the record, you showed nothing but respect by listening and internalizing what it meant to you. It is remarkable to see how much this music can still impact and move people when they hear it for the very first time. I am totally subscribed to your channel and I look forward to digging into more of your videos. All my best to you my new brother in metal.

    ps- it is absolutely sad that some people still have the same mindset that they did in the 80s era of the
    " Satanic Panic " when it comes to metal. Utter crap. It is really sad to see that people are still so impressionable. Metal is freeing metal is beautiful, it draws from so many diverse influences like World music, jazz, classical, thank you so that when you listen to metal you are listening to many many genres at once. It is glorious.

      @@Magnereacts it is interesting to me the way you present your thoughts during and after the songs, the tone and Timbre of your voice is very much like an ASMR video in some respects. It is unique and that combined with your ever-increasing knowledge and thoughts as you go along really made your channel stand out to me. I think this is why I was so inclined to write at such length here in the comments. That being said, let me offer you some theatrical metal suggestions, that will also be spooky and Halloween appropriate. I will return with some links. Cheers- M.

  • @MissLoonasSpeech
    @MissLoonasSpeech Před 2 lety

    That's what I call a nice surprise! I'm pleased to see that you obviously enjoyed this a lot. So in the end, this negative comment which you were so upset about led to something positive, because it inspired me to recommend this song! Didn't know that it was actually a Candlemass song which inspired you to start this channel. It's funny that you mentioned that when listening to "Black Stone Wielder" you got the impression that this was the Christmas gospel, because there's a part in that song which cites the Swedish Christmas song "Gläns över sjö och strand" (about 3 1/2 minutes into that song, but slightly alienated). Now I might get a bit erratic, but talking about "Gläns...", there is a beautiful version by Rikard Wolff (R.I.P.) to be found on the Christmas album "Desemberbarn" he did together with Kari Bremnes 20 years ago. Are you familiar with that album? Back to Candlemass, they are my favourite Doom Metal band and I'd say their debut "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" (which "Black Stone Wielder" stems from) is still my favourite, whereas "Samarithan" is from their second album which featured a different singer, Messiah Marcolin, who has IMO one of the most impressive male voices in metal. I could easily recommend other songs by Candlemass, but I don't know where to start. Instead, I'd like to repeat my recommendation from my last comment in your Gåte-reaction, namely "Grevinnens bønn" by The 3rd and the Mortal: czcams.com/video/ijxu3XSS1Mw/video.html It's also Doom Metal, but softer/more atmospheric with a beautiful female voice - and they are from Trondheim! ;) (I could have written a post twice as long as this one, also commenting on other things you said, but I'm not sure if the algorithms would approve of this.)

      Oh cool! Yes! I absolutely recognized gläns över sjö och strand! That was one of the things that got me so excited! And I've heard the version with Kari Bremnes and Richard Wolff! It's lovely! The whole record, desemberbarn is beautiful.

      @@Magnereacts You're welcome! :) Yes, I can get very enthusiastic about music (well, at least the music I like). And "Desemberbarn" is my favourite Christmas album (not that there are many others I could think of) - I like how "nordic" it sounds. It's the total opposite of kitsch, thus one could say anti-kitsch. ;)
