    The Barangay Captain is an elected position. When you feel like doing some kind of charitable event, always go to the Barangay Captains and ask them for their advice and participation if they want to participate.
    It keeps their name in a good light come election time and it keeps you in a better foundation in case you need to involve the Barangay Captain in anything in the future.
    I like to keep my giving private. So I prefer to just sit back as a spectator and let the Barangay Captain take all the credit if he wants to.

    When you're moving out and you have a 2 month deposit, stop paying your rent two months in advance. Many landlords won't pay you back, not because they don't want to but because they can't. They never put that money aside to pay you back. They used it thinking that they will cross that bridge when they come to it, but when the moment is there, they don't have the cash.

      @@mikesphilippineretirement as with a lot of laws here, they aren't enforced. At the LTO, the fixer makes their piece, and so do the underpaid LTO clerks. I know someone who initially got their PDLicense. I think he paid 2000 pesos; the license fee etc was 1000 and the balance was split between fixer and the LTO folks. Same guy was given a vision test in which he cheated (covered his one eye but 'didn't cover' it--he was blind in one eye) so it's all a bit of a joke.

    Lil story about a beggar. My grand niece saw a guy begging on corner with sign asking for money for food, so she said “cmon I’ll take you to Mac Donald’s and feed you” he told her just give him some money. Things like that make me hesitant to help people out, also once one sees you helping they’ll want help also! Long time ago my mother donated to one and soon she was getting things in the mail almost daily asking for a donation.

    It is hard to find a good way to give or donate. One thing I noticed when you give money to one kid, instead of keeping it s secret for himself he goes and tells all the other kids and so next time when they see you, you will have several of them following you. No English with just their hand out. If I saw a guy like you did, I would give him money too, he was not a professional beggar.

    • @kenmiller9
      @kenmiller9 Před měsícem +1

      They emigrate to the U.S.A. for opportunties- those we take for granted.... Public education without the corruption of teachers and administrators making money on the side; public safety without having to have money in your pocket for tea money at checkpoints if you have minor infraction; fleeing corruption at all levels of government- barangay to the presidency; getting their kids into STEM for their pursuit of career skills in high demand in the U.S.A.; For us seniors, getting a casual job in the U.S.A. is simple. Walmart, Amazaon, McDonalds, security guard services- all hire seniors, unlike in the Philippines where it's very difficult to get a job if you are over 30. Even in the professional fields like teaching, there's less age discrimination than in the Philippines. Filipinos aren't concerned with our poltitics. Look what they are coming from! Wokeness? They are open to new, progressive ideas. Inflation? Well, they have it in the Philppines, and with stagnant wages, it's much worse than in the U.S.A. For those of us expats who are retirees and living in Southeast Asia, Central and South America, Caribbean islands, it's not the poltiics, wokeness, or inflation that drove us to these 3rd World countries. No, it's the fact that our pensions and other income sources are on a 1st World scale which gives us spending power to live a good life without having to work, or do side jobs as retirees. Bascically, cheap labor = lower cost of living... That simple.
