Part 14 - connecting to Freddies house
Part 23 - connecting to the corner shop from part 5

I’ld love seeing more of Fred(dy)!
I'm pretty sure that temporary tunnel end needs to be painted to look like the tunnel continues (the type of mural Wile E. Coyote uses to try to trick the Road Runner).
Also: congrats on finishing and thanks for all the amazing entertainment you've brought to us along the way!
Or a mirror will do a similar job.

I expect all the concrete guys who have delivered have seen the video's.
This series just proves to me that Bruce and Alfred could have totally built the Bat Cave themselves.
absolutely
nah he hired moleman on the DL
Well, when do we get the Batman Netflix series that's just Bruce Wayne digging a cave for three seasons?
@@cameron7374 Can we have Alfred swearing his ass off non stop like Fred in this series? And like, that's the origin story of Alfred being so well manered and polite later, he exhausted his lifetime quota of swears while building the Batcave.
In the comics, one version of how the Batcave came to be is exactly how Gus got the underground lab started on Better Call Saul. In both cases, the workers were brought in, had no idea where they were, did the digging, and were very well paid.
What a wonderfully crazy neighbour you have! He seems to be getting some 20 years younger when he is let down in your tunnel. 😆

Hi Colin. Long time viewer, first time commenter. I love how you progressed from wacky machines to massive engineering projects like this tunnel. My suggestion is to leave one of the tunnel ends open so the rock wall is visible and maybe cover the end with a thick glass panel or plexiglass. Would be cool to see the rock face in an alcove like that to remember how it all began.
Also, the steel wall panels have perfect frames for mural paintings. Perhaps you could get your kids or neighbourhood kids to start painting these wall sections. A bit of color on those black walls would be great.
Have a great day Colin! You are an awesome engineer!
I'm a little late to commenting, but as far as the plan for the car lift... I like the idea of a hidden lift system, like a spy movie, something contained within the garage that you could then drive off of and into the space below the driveway. In my mind, this system also has a false garage floor that automatically goes into place when the lift is underground.
Would be absolutely hysterical to see a car drive into the single wide car port, the garage door closes, then have the door open and another car drive in lol
Longest and most interesting series on CZcams. Colin you’ve outdone yourself congratulations on your secret tunnel

Interesting.... yes!
Longest series... you've never seen "Project Binky"

You (In my opinion) really need a window with lighting behind, to 'show' the rock while in the Garage. Does not have to be large, but something for looking 'outside' I guess. Cause everyone needs a window in their Garage! I also think you should include a sump pump for emergency evacuation of water just in case. While you can still include it into your design for if a leak or flooding were to occur. Love what you have completed there. Just amazing!
Will need something to battle the condensation and cleaning of the window from the rockside
@@EvilGodXLjust well... he could copy the design of airplane windows to combat condensation, or just make the window removable so he can clean it from time to time... a refurbished skylight from a boat can do the trick
I'm so stoked to see you build that underground garage. I hope this project never ends!
You could have your DeLorean drive onto an oval shaped cog platform that rests on the lift and is turned around by another identical (reciprocate) cog beneath the surface. Alternatively, you could use a giant drawer slide along the wall of the space connected to the platform by a hinge, which could pivot the whole thing 180 degrees. You'd want the connection to break vertically, but not horizontally, so it can allow the lift to separate from the wall slide thingy, then engage once it's been lowered. Just a couple ideas.
E
When it is completed, you should get an Estate Agent to come round and value the property, and film them when you show the entrance to the tunnel!
This makes me wonder if the bunker is now considered a basement connected by a tunnel instead of a bunker and a house on the same property
@@CollinThegamer I once read it'd now be the opposite. the bunker + tunnel cobination would value higher than the house.
He does address this question at the end of one of his other videos. He said that he has to sell the bunker with a house and not a house with a bunker
actiually he said in one video that he would have to sell the house with the bunker not the bunker with the house
I bet the bunker and the tunnel probably are probably valued the same as the house itself

Just watched part 1 to 10 again for the second time, enjoyed as much as the first. Absolutely brilliant tunnelling! What about an underground swimming pool??
If the room is large enough, the second car space could also be used for car repairs. For that matter, you could have a trench under the car parking spot, between the lift, again for maintenance and repairs. Whatever lift mechanism you install, just remember you’re going to want to be able to service it eventually.
So he might need to add a turn table down there so it could drive off in to a different repair zone
Something I would love to see in phase 2:
Those exposed rocks looks so cool. How about making a window with a fake cave? Add some rbg lights, some fake dinosaurs bones, etc. I'm sure it would look rly cool

Fake dinosaur bones? How about fake dinosaurs?

I think your car lift system should come out of the ground when you want to drive into it or come out of it, and recess back into the ground, with an unassuming garden outdoor seating area on top (Like a Secret Entrance) that lifts up int the air. This way, it's not some big industrial looking garage thingy in front of your house. Also, maybe have some warning system/lights flash when you come out, so people stand clear, but make them also blend into some serene garden like setting (again, not industrial looking).
With the scissor lift instead of having the drive bit on the top raising up, perhaps it should slide making it less obstructive on the surface and easier for a horizontal shift rather than a vertical one. Also in the parking room under the ground you could have conveyor belts to move the parked vehical horizontally and rotate it away from the side and have the conveyor belts move it back to the original position.
It’s crazy how dedicated he is to this
Especially when it's super creepy
If summats worth doing, Its worth doing properly!

Someone may have already recommended this but what about turning your car before it lowers into the underground garage it will probably have more room above to turn and will save using turning space underground

For the garage, I think the best thing (not the most practical) to do would be to have a circular platform that raises and lowers. On surface level there would be a rectangular (so as to not make awkward shapes on the ground) platform that opens, much like escalator doors but horizontally, and beneath them would be the circular platform (raised). Then as the car is parked on the circular platform it starts to lower and when there is enough clearance the rectangular doors close. After that the circular platform starts to rotate underground (preferably before it reaches the bottom, but there probably will not be enough height unless the up and down motion is very slow) and voila! the car is in position.
Really massively impressed by this whole series! As far as the lift is concerned could you plausibly use a bearing on a scissor lift for the rotation similar to the Hulk buster bearings? I appreciate they are almost certainly mega mega expensive, so you maybe able to engineer something.

What a great series this is Colin, you are a legend. So many possibilities for the above ground area not to forget ur mini golf idea, or a patio, pergola, citadel, shade housey morning tea type area or even a botanical garden highlight.
I would suggest keeping any structures light & maybe using lifelike plastic plants if going this route because they will always look good, wont die (like the bunker area), weigh as much for lifting, or need water.
Turning &/or moving for 2 car access would be a bit of a challenge for ya, but anything is do-able if you throw enough cash and commitment into it. You could consider making two independent lifts and rotators to accomplish this, or build a parking robot that can lift, move sideways, turn & lower for 1 or 2 cars, maybe you could drive onto a custom made tray with small indentations for the tyres to rest & position the vehicles for a robotic parking & turning device. Sounds like a lot of work, but probably not beyond ur scope. Cheers from Oz
Un friggin believable. The work you put into this project is mind blowin'. It's really a thing of beauty and I can't wait until the underground garage project begins! Nice job!!!
You could test your system for lowering your DMC into the ground by creating a smaller version of it next to your shed to raise and lower your lawn mower and even build in an additional rack to hold garden tools, weed eaters, etc, etc. and you ( if I am looking at your drawings correctly ) would be able to build an underground access to this lift right off the tunnel just by adding a door. This would also provide a larger lift system to get some of your heavier objects underground. I absolutely can not wait, but will patiently do so anyways for the videos to come! C'mon 12 Million Subs! Cheers Colin, you're the greatest!!!!

For the Delorean part, what you can do is have the turntable above ground before the car goes down the scissor lift. That way, it will be facing the right way once underground.
Genius.
Do a check of wall with clear epoxy to show off the exterior tunnel work!
On the last bit about the Delorean in the mine shaft, it would be amazing if you could keep that esthetic in the underground car park. Whether it is repurposing the removed rock as a facade against the metal plate, or if you could somehow freeze the natural rock in an epoxy resin.

this has been a fun one to follow. i imagine alot of us have dreamt of having a secret tunnel under our homes. the fact that youre levelling it up with an underground parking garage is wild.
for the car thingy i think you should get a really strong motor for the platform to make the car be able to spin around and then the same kind of thing you used for mining that you broke the end of a lot of the time and then attach a few then have a box next to your doorbell that needs a pin to open then you can press buttons but also at the bottom of the tunnel have a refueling station you could also make a toilet down there if youve come back from somewhere and you are bursting for it, it will be out of you in no time! THANKS FOR ENJOYMENT COLLIN!!
I'd recommend you look at modern aircraft carriers and how their lifts work, since they essentially do exactly what you want to do with the car port. Older types load aircraft from the middle with a ratchet mechanisim, newer carriers go from the side with two arms running alongside the ship.
As for rotating the car, you might be able to get away with a SMALL scissorlift in the middle of the main lift, that props the car up and turns it around, without having to turn the entire lift. (which is probably going to weigh several tons!)
Indeed - I was thinking along similar lines, though perhaps the easist way to do the car rotating and 2nd car fitting is if each car is parked on a "pallet" - when it reaches the floor the pallets own wheels have tracks to run in that allow it to be driven sideways for a second car parking spot or just a little sideways into the loop for a rotation. Each pallet could also be pinned into angled rails on two of the walls (parallel to the front of the house) so the lateral translation to bring the car up central to the driveway while allowing enough space for rotation down below is all handled as the lift progresses.
Agree
The neighbor (Freddy?) is absolute chaos added to this nutters project and I’m here for it.
That is a scam btw I think

For the underground garage your rotating mechanism could be made to stop at 90 degrees to allow you to store the cars in the left part of the garage (left in this video). You should be able to store 2 cars that way and you could use that mechanism that car wash places use to move the cars on the lift and into the parking spaces without having to drive it.
This would be a sick idea!
I was thinking the exact same thing 😂
Look up "Railway turntable" on wikipedia. That's basicly what you want, on a lift .

This tunnel malarky has got to be one of the most eagerly anticipated viewings ever to appear on youtube. You're a legendary geezer Colin Furze! 👍
I'm no expert, but my advice on making your garage lift a reality whilst getting the full 360 rotation you are looking for would be to make the elevator a disc turntable, or at least have the mechanical lifting sections be disc shaped with wheels/or runners of some kind on the sides and bearings/freespinning joint on the bottom. get or make some spiraling circular metal guides (like the kind of guides garage doors use) spiraling 360 as it goes upwards on the inner of the elevator shaft and on the supports for the shaft. If you had a system like this it would allow you to turn your car 360 degrees without having to spend extra power/machine work spinning the platform, all you would have to worry about would be providing the power to push the lift up and down. Be it with hydraulics, pneumatics, or winches of some kind. The freespinning circular platform and the rollers spinning with the guides would turn the car 360 using only the energy pushed on it by the upwards/downwards movement. If this doesn't make sense, the best way I can describe it would be like the rifling on a gun, the spiraling metal guidelines in the elevator shaft moving the wheels along with the platform as pressure is applied by the lift, turning the turntable. Heck, if you line up your car right and give enough room for the car to turn before it fully makes it to the top, the entrance/exit could even be rectangular even if the lift itself is circular, as long as the car clears and lines up with the exit before fully popping out of the ground/going underground. Hopefully this comment reaches you, and if It does I hope any of it makes a lick of sense. lol
Well done Colin have a great time using it!🎉
As someone who builds elevators for a living a hydraulic elevator makes the most sense to carry the weight of the car. They don't require a Counterweight and you can bury the piston below the ground and have it telescope up. You do need a room for a hydraulic tank and a small area for the controller. Making it a lazy suzan is tricky because standard Hydro elevators need the platform mounted directly to pistons on either side. You can do a roped Hydro but that takes up more room and you can't put the piston in the ground.
An in ground Hydro with the piston in the center of the platform is your best bet. In order to get the platform to spin you would need a way to detach the platform from the platen plate (top of piston) as well as the guide rails. That's almost impossible. You can't spin a platform on guide rails. So instead of making the whole platform spin why not just make part of it spin. Cut a circular section out of a square platform and build a motorized lazy suzan out of your circular cut out. This way it can spin regardless of how close your elevator is to the wall and regardless of whether it's at the top or bottom. Doing this systems also merits a lot of safety features. You can use IR to make sure nobody or thing is near moving components, so the elevator won't move without a perfect IR signal. Also if the IR breaks the elevator won't move. Basically garunteed safety if you place the IR properly.
The only problem with this is cost vs doing a scissor lift. A fully functional peele freight elevator costs hundreds of thousands at the low end. Millions at the high end.
Just a though. DM me if you want rough sketches or pictures for reference. I take a lot of pictures at work so I have tons to go off of.
BUMP! Hope he notice you!
he could absolutely use a 2 or 3 stage cylinder so the hole for the cylinder so it doesn't have to be so deep. just remember. hes gotta dig all that crap out. I was a millwright at a boise cascade plant, making play wood, we had a hot press. basically, after all the veneer got laid out, it was shoved into a special racking system that used steam heat to press and set the glue. there were two of these presses, with 5, 9 inch diameter piston cylinders each. the whole thing raised up like 20 feet. what absolutely sucked, was the maintenance. it was the oiliest place in the building (because it required so damn much), and if a seal went bad, you had a hell of a project on your hands. but that said, he could absolutely mount a separate frame to this cylilder, and put a rotating platen on top of that. use a hydraulic turner to rotate it.
Future couple: “This house is perfect honey”
Colin: “oh yeah, theres also a bunker with a underground tunnel system connecting the shed, house and workshop with a hidden parking section under the driveway”

It was a pleasure seeing all the developments, you are really an inspiration. I feel lazy af!!
For the car lift, you should make the base circular rather than squared so it looks cooler, and if you put it on a motor, it will spin and be more balanced with weight
We have a bank drive thru that has a rotisserie that turns your car 90* so you can drive out the ally next to the bank. it is on a very small lot.
you speak like it will spin at 100 rpm .... motor ? thatd be a big waste of hydraulic or pneumatic assets alreadt in place , einstien
@@MrSexyPsycho An electric motor doesn't have to spin fast, but it has acceleration so wouldn't struggle too much on a balanced plate
yep , definitely a circular plate if able to fit and also spin it above ground instead of underground , that might help with the restricted space
Thats what I was thinking along side this is so unrealistic.
“We started on this project 2 years ago”
When he said that I had to pause and collect myself, feels like just a few months ago he posted the first tunnel video.
The last two years have been the longest, quickest two years I can remember
I love this entire project. Are you going to have a loo anywhere? Plumbing? This is so great!
So a civil engineer here. A turn table at at the bottom makes the most sense for turning, however as you pointed out you can’t put it right up against the corner. A solution would be to have the turn table be a rectangle slightly larger than the car and have a rail type slide under the tyres so it can be moved easily from left to right. This will mean you’ll have hydraulic powered turn table with slots which engage and disengage most likely with a screw, so a mechanical system like a quick release for a vice. This will allow the turn table to turn and have the slots stay with the car and move, then reengage to the scissor lift. I would suggest the scissor lift have those slots engaged in some fashion again with the quick release system, I can see having another platform under the car which is independent of the turn table be what lifts the car up. This could be a hydraulic ramp from a garage, could be easier but I couldn’t say. The other thing is getting that close to the main road the highways department of the council will want to know and make an assessment so you don’t cause structural issues to the carriageway and foot way. For the mapping of where cables are etc ask your local council for stats for your house and road, it’ll be a small fee maybe 20 or so for the maps and this will allow you to see roughly where the cables are as well as who owns what land etc. i don’t expect a reply but if you do I am a real civil engineer for a local council and I’d be more than happy to give free advice because this is very cool so just message me and we can go from there
Colin does not get the recognition he deserves, he is literally the epitimy of what we all know as an inventor. Absolutely crack pot ideas, but makes them work. Absolute top bloke 👏

For the car lift, you could maybe make some sort of screw lift so that the rotation and elevation are both done at once, but that would require the lift being a circle and would take up more room.
I'm no engineer but that's the same place my mind went. Always try to incorporate the 8 simple machines, less to go wrong and time tested.
Or, screw lift attached to a lazy Susan platform so platform is fixed while on ascent or descent
Wouldn't that make the whole thing **really** slow? Can't have a platform with a car on it spinning even remotely "fast". Even the tiniest bit of imbalance would spell disaster.
Just thinking about this and visualizing it with my hand, wouldn't this just result in the car spinning to the correct direction while going down (making the car face towards the street), but then when it goes up it would go back to how it started (facing towards the house)?
@@DoodleBob2k4 Oh, true
You probably also love the tunnel so much because you worked so hard for it. Congrats man!
I feel special. First time seeing Colin with His dig, and I witnessed His dump site. First time on His youtube as well, so doubly lucky I suppose. Keep on, keeping on mate.
And I thought you were going to stick with a more "English" plan for the front entrance, adding one of those Red Phone booths with a secret code that raises and lowers a platform inside the booth that take you up and down into the tunnel. But, a rotating car port is going to be awesome as well. Two cylinder tubes into the ground to raise and lower the car platform attached to a rotating base.
I hope he sees this and uses it as an idea for when he wants to get in the bunker from his front driveway.
Why not both? a car lift, and a phone booth right next to it.
@@solojessy9644 Well, Colin has not invited me over to his house, so I'm not sure how much space is available to do both. I can only go off his cardboard box layout! He could do both if he placed the Red Phone Booth were the planned car lift is, and then he could move the car lift into his Car Park (Garage) and have the floor go up and down. Or better yet, build the lift in front of the garage as spare underground parking space. That might give him room for 3 cars: One in Garage, one under ground, and the other parked onto of the lift (Wonder if it can be strong enough to lift and get the other car out. Of course, that might rule out the rotating mechanism!
