I can totally imagine it as a legit attraction in Disneyland-like park, fair or mall, or whatever. Just imagine this thing surrounded by a bunch of soft-covered blocks and obstacles, go-through loops and such, so that you or your kid can jump around and feel like a superhero.

I think the biggest problem is the cost compared to those bungee-style jump setups you see all over the place.

They'd need to weigh each passenger before they get on to be able to adjust the balance
So this is actually one of his most useful inventions. Depending on the cost how how it can be scaled (up or down), this could be anywhere from schools to museums, etc. It has some pretty intense implications in lessons about space and gravity.

@1nvisible1 turns out it's easier to just bring a couple ladders instead of a massive counterbalanced human crane that lifts one person at a time. It also has to be transported and installed on the job site. and needs it entire radius of space free of obstrucion to function...to what get a single guy on a roof sort of quicker? You can also only work on spaces immediately on the circumference of the machine. He doesn't have full movement of the area. He can essentially only go in a circle so unless a roofer is working on some sort of tube that for some reason matches the exact dimension off this thing you'd get essentially nothing done
Your idea would be a complete failure of concept and it wouldn't do anything faster. It would take longer need to be incredibly precise to the crane and be a financial loss
The only reason he was able to make contact with the pallets and board was because they put them exactly where they needed to be and the end of the armatures reach.
You will not find that on a job site you need to be able to move forward and backwards way more easily instead of being locked to a circle ⭕
Fun on the job site sure....in any manner practical no. I suppose you could use it like a quick elevator to get to the top of a roof and unharness. When you get there. But.... I'm still thinking a ladder is way more practical

This technology has incredible potential for motion tracking actors. Speed up the wall running a little afterwards for example and you've got a super realistic wall run animation.

What would be really cool is if the seat had a scale of some sort in it, then you code up an Arduino or something to do some maths and automatically adjust the arm length for the weight of any person. You could also easily set it to have different presets to simulate gravity on different planets/the moon!

Uh, yeah, I’m 40 yrs old with lots of adult responsibilities like others in the world, but I would legit call out of work everyday, and blow off fatherly and spousal duties, to play with this all day. Everyday. What an amazing time. Well done, from build to execution. 👏

I thought about that when he teased this yesterday, and concluded the opposite is true. This IS real, not virtual, so the treadmill and taditional VR headset is moot.

You could make a holodeck with this. Add a ring of treadmills around in a circle so that you can run forwards and backwards, and then to go left or right you spin around the machine. With a VR headset it might feel pretty seamless.

The only thing I worry about with the current design is the potential for very painful landings if you're not fully aware, mostly spine damage for anyone upside down bonking into the ground.
I love that just the installation of the lights on this thing would be something most channels would milk for 5 episodes worth of content. Not here. Here it's a straight cut to: "oh, by the way, I put lights on it because it was neat". It's amazing the amount of work that goes into these projects.
Yeah. Most channels pushes scheduled (or at least consistent release) contents after all. Meanwhile Colin would make it as short as possible and atleast only 2 vids long.
If the tunnel didn't take years he'd probably make it just 3 vids long! He even pays YT so u don't get interrupted by ads while watching while some would smash as much ad as possible.

This is SO ingenuitive. Such a simple, straightforward concept for a weightless parkour device!!! Looks WICKEDLY fun!!! I would freaking LOVE to get in one of those things!!!
Maybe you could try experimenting with air resistance/momentum to really get that speeding-up bullet jump effect? Like, holding your arms out when you jump out, then pulling all your body weight to the center and spinning to try to generate more force and cut through the air? Kind of like a mix of pumping on a swingset and the centrifugal force trick in the office chair where you pull your arms in to go faster? I am not knowledgeable enough o the actual forces behind those two concepts to understand their applications here but it would be EASY to check in practically applied experiments!!!

Two of my favorite things, Warframe and Colin Furze, never knew this was a thing until now! Very impressive, and I've been watching the secret tunnel series all day!
I feel like you could actually sell this as an idea for a fair ride, this looks awesome!

You would need to have the counter weight adjustable to each rider. This one is balanced to Colin's weight.

Seriously, so effin' cool. It reminds me of the rope swing I had growing up that I could use to run off my porch and swing AROUND the tree. I could do "back flips" and such, using the trunk as the "ground." It was magnificent, and truly felt like flying!
I’m from the same place Colin is from and I remember when I was in primary school he came round with trucks and inventions and we were all STUNNED! I’ll never forget that

You’ve definitely cracked it there Colin and the best way to describe it is very much like that of a human fairground trebuchet with tons of applications ranging from training space tourists, skydiving training, heavy duty cinema camera crane jigs for IMAX, Arri etc, gaming and movie content creator's, VR metaverse to fairground attractions.

I actually think this is the cleverest thing he's ever built. The amount of applications this could have is incredible: theme parks, entertainment hire, use in maintenance and engineering, use in film and special effects, shows, circus', live entertainment...I hope he slaps a patent on it if possible.

I think the liability would be too high for a theme park. It would be super easy to get twisted around and bump your head or injure yourself.

I think the main problem would be the fact that Colin specifically tailored it to his weight but if you could get around that then I would ride it for sure
You should make it have a second piston for the weight so you can not only fine tune the balance but also the length and keeping the same weight

personally i would switch faith with confidence.
faith means there would almost imply luck is involved.
with something like this you cant depend on luck.
confidence however is even if even if you know something is 100% safe, it can still be scary like with (heights or fast speeds for instance, which he often does) while knowing factually you did everything right. you triple checked everything.
besides, he always has his safety tie ;)

there are quite a lot of ways things can go wrong with it, and I don't mean breaking, more to do with inertia, and if you start to think about making it idiot proof, things start to get quite complicated, and that isn't what you want, because the more complicated it gets, the higher the chance things can go wrong

Also it needs a fair bit of room and it would be harder to make it for multiple people
For just one person fun ride the amount of space it needs can be tough in some places
its amazing that one man could make all these different kinds of crazy creations
I could use one of those, it would make it far easier when I need to work on an insane roof. And if you forget something on the ground you can literally jump down and then jump back up.

Combining this with a VR headset with a character to mirror what you do based on the arm would be incredible!
Oh boy, yes. Fairly easy to add rotation sensors, slightly more difficult to get realistic in-game distance and contact with walls and ground
But you'd just be running in circles...
Also incredibly dangerous... that arm has tons of momentum, if you ram yourself blindly head-first into the ground, you'll have a bad day
I guess with some external cameras and the right algorithm you can keep the user upright at all times while wearing the VR headset. The future of immersive VR is about to get insane.

a fun idea which i havent really thought through would be making the whole arm able to extend and retract so you dont just have radial motion and can run in a line for a bit

@@Secret_Squirrel_Scottishgamer that's the least of the issues, changing the weight it's calibrated to is almost as simple as just changing the counterweights at the back.
Could make some good money doing that but I'm wouldn't be surprised if the already have something like this
@@-canopus-513 you wouldn’t need to mess with the counterweight. There is a hydraulic cylinder, to lengthen the arm, altering the CG.
This man has a LOT of faith in his welding ability. And rightfully so from what i've seen
Everyday I wonder how he hasn't gotten into a bad accident... from his lack of safety stuff in certain videos.. but who am I to judge, he's still there and kickin! And hopefully as long as he can :D

The motions of a real human in this are so much more physically realistic than anything MCU cg animators have come up with. This needs to be used to create reference footage.
If the rig can be slimmed and the arm hidden with green screen it could just be practical effects

I'm fairly sure I've seen rigs like this (except more complex) used in behind the scenes footage of various movies that involve flying or low gravity shenanigans.

The thing could rotate the body, it would have been amazing if it can also spin around in the axle that holds the ring for the waist, this way you can do backflips as well, or front flip

This is clearly amazing. I wonder if you could do the math and emulate exact gravity experience of distant celestial bodies like the Moon or Mars? You could have a Moon setting and use it as a training environment!
With a motor in the center pivot to dynamically add some torque and some basic electronics it would definitely be possible. Don't think it could work passively though since your moment varies depending on the angle of the pivot arm.

Two things I absolutely love about this, the tie during the whole thing and so much trust in his math, not a single safety device was used.

Yes you can buy it as merch
I recall there was a handle to lock it in place with push of a button. Pretty easy to make it wireless and have two buttons, one for user and second for the safety person outside. Only danger is slipping from the harness but there is better harness for that and momentum slamming you into obstacle, but braking system solves most of that. Only possible danger that comes to mind if welds tress failing, but given Colins welding skills i doubt that is a issue.
Something like this could be used for some really cool parkour shots in movies. I assume it would be unwieldy for full sequences however

I can definitely see the use of this contraption in some space training centers. And also, let's see... film making, amusement parks, circuses, rehabilitation centers, pilots training and something in that vein. Interesting thing you built there, I applause!
This is absolutely one of the coolest machines I have seen built , if Hollywood doesn't have a similar machine they need one . I can't imagine all the cool action shots they could get with this
I'm pretty sure these rigs do exist in some form in the film industry. This one is definitely miles ahead in terms of fun factor undoubtedly
