In this clip, Dave Mays talks about how the dissension in the ranks, amongst his primary business partner and editors at The Source, prompted the launch of the publication's biggest competition to date: XXL Magazine. He shares the names of his of people who initiated the walk out, like James Benard and the one business partner who stood by his side during the highly publicized dismantling of the magazine, Ed Young. Dave Mays talks about the process of re-staffing the magazine after the walkout and the aftermath of the fallout. Lastly, he explains why he brought Benzino aboard as a business partner after several of his former employees cited their disdain for the rapper.

I can't lie. The Source was pushing Benzinos group hard even gave them 5 mics. It made them look bad. Benzinos group was ok. But maybe 2 mics at best. That started it all

Sorry to say it, but The Source lost credibility when Benzino took over, everyone knew who was a wack rapper but he seemed to get a lot of coverage in the magazine. I remember he got 4 and a half mics one time, I heard the album and it was terrible, average beats, no originality, conceptually boring .
