  • Just a quick video tutorial on how to tighten your mechanical brakes on the Mate X ebike.
The first minute and a half are an intro of what loose brakes look like, skip to 1:40 in the video to go to the tutorial.
Thanks for stopping by! Shoot me a sub if you like what you see! I'll be posting once or twice a week and alternate between bike vlogs and tutorial videos.
    Enjoy yourselves out there,
    Peace.

I realize this is two years old, but for those looking for help on these breaks on any bike, this is the worst place to start when adjusting your mechanical brakes, ESPECIALLY when you are on the road. You have a barrel adjuster at the brake handle and at the brake itself designed to adjust the cable tension. Ive adjusted the brake lever barrel adjuster while riding on other bikes. The adjustment made on this video is typically done on inital set up of the brake caliper and you would only do it again after the pads had started to wear considerably (which is a sign you need new pads soon).

and just in case, what you adjusted is the position for the fixed brake pad. On cheaper cable operated disc brakes, the in board pad does not move, the outboard pad moves and effectively shoves the rotor over. You do want to adjust the inboard pad as close as you can to the rotor without too much rotor rub which is difficult with these brakes because the rotors are never straight out of the box. Again, this adjustment was ideally made on initial set up. The early issues that art experienced were a loss of cable tension and settling of the housing, which would be adjusted by turning the barrel adjusters on the brake lever and caliper itself, and finally, simply loosening the cable anchor bolt, pulling the cable snug and then refixing it.
