This is what I call my life song. In 1989 on June 3rd, I broke 2 bones in my neck, and was paralysed from the neck down, I started getting feeling in my arms again after 3 weeks, and 4 weeks after my accident, I was moved to a hospital in Glasgow nearer my home. I was told 1 week after my accident I wouldn't walk again, but a nurse in the Glasgow hospital, Wendy told me...rubbish, don't listen to that, I'll get you up and walking again, just Don't Stop Believing that, I hadn't even heard of this song by that time. Then I heard it on the radio a few weeks later, I thought it was a sign, about 6 to 8 weeks later, Wendy took me to the Gymnasium in the hospital, and between her, and the head Physio, Viv, they had me standing between parallel bars, taking my first step. So if someone tell you, that you can't do something, don't listen to them, prove them wrong, I did.

Steve Perry is definitely one of the greatest singers ever. He's so good he can walk around the stage and sound stellar. Only a few singers can do that. Linda Ronstadt is one. This is an iconic singer, song. ,band! Awesome

After every concert and between each concert Steve Perry would not speak for two days to give his voice a rest. On that note he is one of a very few people who can reach notes that most male singers and female singers can not hit.

Every one of their songs had this level of challenging vocals. So, saying he sang probably 20 songs per night just like this. And did probably four or five shows a week. No backing tracks. No digital vocal helpers.
I was in middle school when Journey was topping the charts, and, man, were they HUGE. I can't understate this.

When Steve Perry left Journey, it left a HUGE whole. He is among the very best pop/rock vocalists from any band. They worked with a guy named Steve Augeri for several years, but it wasn't the same. After a brief period with Jeff Scott Soto in lead vocals, guitarist Neal Schon sent an invitation to Filipino vocalist Arnel Pineda based on his CZcams videos. Pineda thought it was a joke at first, but he eventually auditioned and got the job. He is as close to Steve Perry as you can possibly get in terms of vocal style and ability. It was good to hear them sounding like Journey again.

This is one of those songs that take you back to a time and place. It has that effect for 80's kids. Vans shoes, skateboards , and numb-chucks [you hit yourself a lot while practicing] .

This is such an awesome song. It has stood the test of time as a great American rock song. As a GenX kid I have viewed it like an anthem for us growing up when this song was being played for the first time. I'm so glad you heard it and to see your beautiful smile while you listened.

Morenikeji, I would love to see your reaction to the greatest love song ever, which just happens to be done by Journey also, it's called "Stay Awhile." Only 2:51 long, it packs A TON of intensity, soul, and emotion into that short time frame. Gorgeously done, especially as it crescendos towards the end, with the strings coming in, and Steve Perry's rich harmonizing with his own voice creating about as beautiful as sound as there is. I so loved their live album Captured. I play the vinyl to this day.
This is perhaps Journey's most famous song and one of my all-time favorites. "Wheel in the Sky" is another fantastic one by them. I'm sure you'd love that one too. Steve Perry's vocals are one-of-a-kind.
