Ron Elliott is the only sea urchin diver at the Farallon Islands off the coast of Northern California, where he shares the water with big Great White Sharks, which is just the way he likes it.
This is a documentary of his experiences, in a combination of stunning black & white and underwater, color photography.

I'm at the beginning of the book Devils Teeth and Ron is mentioned so I decided to look him up and I'm so glad I did. This film is fantastic. I can literally imagine him falling on and being attacked by one of The Sisters and him keeping her away from him with a sea urchin basket. He is incredibly brave for swimming in these waters with so many large predators so close by. And the obvious respect and understanding he has for them makes me love his work even more.

I remember reading about this man in the book "The Devil's Teeth" and thinking this guy must be the bravest man ever.
I grew up in S.f and on a clear day I could see the Farallon's from my house. I've met two people who were attacked by great whites and they loved the gw's even after that.
    Thanks for uploading this.

Great Doc. liked how underwater shots were in color. Thought I was the only freak that often dreamed of sharks. I spend a lot of time in So Cal waters bodysurfing. I am often around dolphins & seals. Swam with sharks on North Shore Oahu this summer. Best experience of my life. Sharks are sleek, beautiful creatures. Not the killing machines the movies make them out to be. My motto: Protect the Ocean.

10/25/2018 Ron Elliott, identified as the man bit on the arm by a great white shark on Tuesday morning at the Farallon Islands, has experienced hundreds of encounters with sharks. The documentary filmmaker is well-known in the Pacific Ocean community as one of the few to actively dive for sea urchins at the islands without a protective cage.

But ron is right they sneak up on your side flanks. Sneaky bastards. Unlesss your diving or surfing in known shark waters, being afraid of them is dumb. Not in a few feet of water. Talking about whites only. Just get a shark shield. Gives you more protection. Smart for Ron to diver there, no competiton.
